PSUPaul: waiting to hear that you placed the bug in WBFDs cache. Will not try today, too soupy out. Maybe tomorrow,I can deal with the high winds better than this cold rain. I'm thinking of putting it back where it came from.It may be more likely to be picked up and moved a greater distance from that location. Is that within the rules of the race?

Freezing rain for tomorrow, folowed by heavy rain all day.Be carefull out there. I have to work tomorrow ,so maybe I'll just watch this thread ,and see if anybody picks it up. If not I'll give it a shot. I hope the cache is above flood stage. Frank from Miners Mills

If you mt. bike,or horseback ride you will only be able to use designated trails,no more going Where you please. I understand there are a lot of Geocachers that use Mountain bikes as part of their geocaching experiance, and it might effect them. OBG.

How come with all that high tech weaponry they miss so much? -
"What do you do if something happens?" they'd ask. My response? "We get ourselves out if it." Years ago while at my cabin during an ice storm,I stepped outside to check things out. one step out the door I was in for the ride of my life.everything,I mean everything was covered with at least 1/2 in.of ice.The cabin Bieng on the side of a hill left me only one way to go,staight down the hill, bouncing off everything in sight.I couldn't grab onto anyting to stop from sliding because every tree and bush and rock was coated with ice. I wound up in the only place on that mountain that had no ice, beneth my truck parked about 100 yards below the cabin. Guess what I had in the truck? You guessed it,my cell phone. With a broken ankle, ribs, smashed face it took me for ever to get in the truck using a screw driver driven into the ice to move only a few feet. called for help, and was rescued by snowmobile. was even able to direct the driver as to where I was located. I find it iresponsible for anyone who owns a cell phone not to cary it in the wild because of some macho reasoning.Carry it! You don't have to leave it on.Carry it just as you would carry a first aid kit or a knife. I used to think If I got into trouble "I could get out of it" Yea,Right. Nuf said.

GARMIN MAPSOURCE PRODUCTS A RIP OFF
olbluesguy replied to RAD Dad's topic in GPS technology and devices
If the census people are the source of the information for these maps maybe there's just not enough people on these streets to warrent the memory it takes to put them there. -
How about a port that you can just plug in a big flat screen lcd monitor into?

Everybody has a good idea about what to take for his or her particular needs,But please leave a note on your vehicle as to where you might be,even if it;s just the coordinates. You may have the best packed bag in the world, and it would be of no use if you wound up sepparated from it in an accident. I used to have four full sized topo maps in a frame on the porch of my cabin ,and put a push pin in the area I was heading.just to let someone know where i was if i didnt show up . Frank

antennna for MagellanTrailblazer
olbluesguy replied to olbluesguy's topic in GPS technology and devices
I think I will leave well enough alone. I have this thing working fine now. I looked over the link you posted, and it looks interesting, but for one you can't use it outdoors, because it's not weather proof. I contacted Magellan at the link you supplied, and hope to hear from them about a regualar external ant.I dont think the small one will hold up bieng mounted outside all the time. Frank -
antennna for MagellanTrailblazer
olbluesguy replied to olbluesguy's topic in GPS technology and devices
thanks for the info,I'll check into it. While cruising Radio Shack yesterday I came upon an external antenna mount for a scanner that has a six foot cord, and mounts to your window with sucion cups.It has the BNC connector on one end that will connect to the gps,and with a little jerry rigging I was able to mount the antenna to it. I drove around all day While shopping and it worked perfect! Now I have a unit for the mobile.Next is to get a new hand held, but not until after the Holidays. Black friday shopping was enough for me for a while. -
I have a Magellan Trailblazer with an antanna that is removable to be capable of attaching an external antenna. My problem is that I broke the antenna in such a way that it will not stay on the unit. Does anyone know where I can get a new unit antenna,or an external antenna that will work with this unit? I have seen Garmin external antennas with the same BNC connectors on them that this unit takes. Will they work with a Magellan? I probably will be getting a new gps after the holidays, and would like to keep this one for my vehicle if i can. Thanks

I'm just taking notes, cuz "I ain't goin'out til I know what it's about"...... BTW,getting a new unit is now a moot point,I just broke the antenna off my trailblazer fiddeling with it.

I have a Magellan Trailblazer that I have been using since about 1995,and has served me well. My question is,What are the differences between my old gps and what is on the market now? I'm thinking of getting a new unit, but I don't know how much better the new ones are compared to my old one. btw,I just found this site, and I think its GREAT!
