  1. I have a lot of caches that have not been active for years. Every once in a while I would get someone claiming a find , saying they were there a year ago. Really? I haven't gotten any in quite a while, maybe GC changed how they work.
  2. I would get someone that lives far away and claiming a find. I always checked them , no log I deleted them. Now, if you think you need to log it but not find it, well ok, your the one missing out on the fun.
  3. I hate searching for ever for a micro in the woods . I hate caches placed on streets with cars and muggles constantly walking by. I hate people that hide caches with out any thought of where or how they are placing it, they are more interested in saying " hey I hid 100 caches" they just want the numbers, I hate people placing caches in areas that they wont visit for another year when they are on vacation, then expect me to keep an eye on it. when I hide a cache people actually enjoy looking for it and they always find it.
  4. UPDATE. More and more caches began to vanish or I couldnt access them. Then a few days ago I couldnt get a satellite fix. The GPS would find the satellites then a second later they would all be gone and we would start again. I put the GPS outside, set it down and came back later, still nothing. Drove it around in the car nothing. So I returned it and the replacement arrived today. Same GPS but this one seems to load much slower than the other one. but at least im ready to head out now.
  5. many years ago we some days had to drive 50 or more miles , and into other states to find caches. I found a nice park about 100 Miles from home, GC questioned me about putting a cache there. I told them it WAS in my line of travel , now it just seems anyone can put one anywhere with no regard that they may live 1000 miles away.
  6. I have gone in and set my filters to show all caches, even ones found, the two still do not show up. so no Im not kidding!!!!
  7. I hope this question is in the right section. Ive been away from caching for a while and the site is all new to me. Please read the question and understand it before you answer. I have a Garmin GPS map64 . I loaded caches with a pocket query. There were two that were near my house. I looked at them on The GPS , found a few others and headed home to find the two locals. They were gone from the GPS. So I got home deleted the caches on my GPS , reloaded the query. The two caches were not there. ( on the GPS) So I erased the caches in memory again. Created a new query, looked at it on line. The two caches showed up on the computer but again were not in the GPS So emptied the caches again. This time I downloaded the two caches separately. again they do not show up on the GPS. I connected the GPS to the computer, the caches show up in the GPS directory but again when I use the GPS the caches do not show up...Im less than 500 feet from one of the caches and the GPS is set to nearest but it doesnt show up . Then I reset the GPS using the directories then did the 3 button restore. I started again and the 2 caches were still not showing up. someplace Ive hit something on the GPS not sure what, any ideas?
  8. I live in a vacation area so I see more caches all the time. Visitors hiding caches all over theplace. Unfortunately most are just Bison Tubes hung in a tree. NO thought in how they place the cache or where they place it. To me , its NOT about searching for a green tube inside a pine tree. Its being taken to an area thats new to me. Finding a medium size cache thats hidden in a special way, something new and interesting. I havent cached for a few years because I got tired of the same old thing....

  12. On my explorist, everyonce in the while I see where it says cache hints. I can't duplicate where I find this and I don't see any mention in the LIT Plus when I do higlight hints , its always empty any help is much appreciated.
  13. I got a 210 this year for xmas. I download the caches using the query function. I then load them into GSAK I then use GSAK to weekout caches I'm not interested in finding ones with lots of no finds etc. Then I use the file export GPX function in GSAK and then load them using the magellan software. Sounds complicated but is really easy I haven't found a way to make GSAK load into the 210 because it uses the USB port.
  14. A added the Terraviewer lines to gsak . Its GREAT ! Everyday I learn a bit more about Gsak . and everyday I love it more!
  15. Another quick question when I send my files to the GPS I Hit send wypts tag name %code which makes the GPS show the caches with the GC code ( which is what I like) then I click file export cachemate tag name %code but cachemate shows the caches with the cache names not the GC codes am I doing something wrong in GSAK or is it something in cachemate I need to change? Part 2 I like to try all the GSAK options to see what things do. I get quite a few error messages that say should I send to clyde? I always say no thinking I'm probably doing things I shouldn't and don't want to bother you. or would you prefer I do send the info???? Thanks again for THE BEST caching program ever!

  18. i GOT THIS IN EMAIL A FEW DAYS AGO. I ALSO HAPPEN TO HAVE A CACHE HIDDEN IN MANCHESTER WHICH IS MENTIONED IN THE ARTICLE. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Black bears are sighted in county By DAVID LEVINSKY Burlington County Times WOODLAND — Lynn Giamalis is used to getting phone calls about stray dogs or lost cats. Two weeks ago, she got a call about some much bigger animals: two adult black bears, to be precise. "I got calls about four bear sightings last Thursday," said the longtime township animal control officer last week. "One family even took a video of them. They had put out some corn to attract deer to their property and two bears showed up." She declined to identify the family or location of the sightings, but said she watched the video and was absolutely sure the animals were black bears. "They didn’t act aggressive or anything. All they did was eat the corn, but they absolutely were bears," Giamalis said. "My guess is that they were each between 150- to 200-pound adults. They definitely weren’t little cubs." Sightings like these someday could be commonplace as more bears wander south from North Jersey to the vast wooded areas of the South Jersey Pinelands. The theory of Pat Carr, supervising wildlife biologist for the state Division of Fish and Wildlife, is that bears are using underpasses for waterways and wetlands to cross major highways such as the New Jersey Turnpike. "We always thought that the Route 1 corridor would be a barrier from them moving south, but it’s clear now that they have been getting underneath and around heavily traveled highways," Carr said last week. After they make it to the Pinelands — historically a habitat for the animals — black bears will find ideal surroundings, the biologist said. Bears were believed to have been hunted out of existence in South Jersey about 70 years ago, but the region is still considered prime bear habitat because of its vast, open space with swampy areas and plenty of food sources such as berries, fruits, acorns and insects. Encounters between humans and bears have grown more common in northern New Jersey counties, where wildlife experts now estimate there are between 1,500 and 2,000 bears, or about 2.5 bears per square mile, according to the division’s 2004 Black Bear Status Report. Wildlife experts have no estimate on the numbers of bears in Burlington County and other southern counties. However, they do know there are some bears living here, and say the numbers of southern bruins could be growing due to high densities in the north. Carr said the prevailing theory is that bears moving here are mostly young male bears driven away by older, more dominant males in the north. "Because of the high density of bears in the north, we’re seeing more spread to the south and east," he said. The sightings in Woodland happened the day after police and a state conservation officer trailed an adult male bear as it wandered through an area of Manchester, Ocean County, just a few miles east of the Burlington County border. A week earlier, bears were sighted in Lacey and Barnegat townships. The two reports were called in 15 minutes apart and described animals at locations more than 10 miles apart, leading wildlife officials to conclude there were two bears. The Manchester sighting was the only one verified by a division officer, but Carr said the others were credible because they accurately described bear activity. Less recently, a bear had to be removed from the Trenton City limits in June 2000, and there have also been scattered bear sightings the last four years in the Colliers Mills Wildlife Management Area in Jackson, Ocean County, as well as credible sightings in Mount Holly and Southampton, Carr said. "We get about four to five sightings a year in different southern counties," he said. "Most are credible but never verified … we like to get some physical evidence, such as bear hair or droppings, but if the description fits a bear, we consider it credible." Although biologists believe a bear population would be healthy in the Pinelands, not everyone is putting out the welcome mat. Cranberry and blueberry farmers in particular said they were concerned about bears invading their fields. "We’ve become used to dealing with deer and seagulls, so I guess bears would be one more pest, only bigger," said Candy Bevilacqua of North Branch Blueberry Co. in Pemberton Township. "I think it would be bad news for us," added Tim Haines, of Haines Berry Farm in Pemberton Township. "We have a deer fence but I don’t think that would keep a bear out. He’d probably knock it over and come right in for a feast."
  19. Theres an old broken, rotten birdhouse laying on the ground in NJ and of course there is a cache in side. Where is it? can't tell you Its a secret. As usual there was a path leading right to it and as usual I didn't find the path till after I found the cache.
  20. If you are near the Leesburg Fl area and would like to give a caching demonstration please email me. The Trout lake nature center is holding an open house. They have a cache hidden in the park > they would like a cacher to give a demo or set up a table and explain caching. The date is March 13th. The natuire center number is 352 357 7536. I also have a home contact number of the person that runs the center and will give that to interested parties. I have gotten a few people interested but no one has said they will definately do it. So if your interested call them or contact me. The only thing I ask is, if you do give a demo, please hide your own cache and do not use the one in the park as i'm afraid someone would take it at a later date/ Thanks bkafer@msn.com
  21. lets see I have had a 15 foot tall memorial in the center of a group of memorials for all war vetrans. It was turned down. 2 Firefighter memorials were turned down . BUT They did ok a piece of the cable from the Golden Gate bridge so I guess 1 out of 4 wasn't bad. My favorite was a big rock with a persons name spraypainted on it saying George loves nancy . Now that was a GREAT virtual.
  22. Is there an easy way to save cache pages to my lap top and then be able to either catalog them or have an easy way to access them. I can copy them and then access them as word files but I hope someone has a better way. Maybe a way to put them into a database that I can sort by areas etc. I hate printing out all those pages and using all that paper.
  23. The weekends are so busy I have a tough logging on. I have been waiting a few days to log my finds when things are not so hectic. I was wondering if this would be a good idea . Once I enter a zip code of an area that I want to search, The system responds with just the caches I have not found only! There could be 2 links on the page that would take me to the caches I have found in that area and the caches I have hidden in that area. This way the servers are not spending time searching for caches I have found and caches I have hidden. Plus I think I will buy a premium membership just to help them out a bit!
  24. Does anyone have any idea when we will again be able to post new locationless caches? I read where it said April or May but I have not been able to find any messages concerning this.
