  1. I have one if you're still looking...PM sent!
  2. I have the exact same issue! 1.1 worked fine, but the new 1.1.1 won't let me log in. In my case, it's the * in the name - good job fixing the ampersand issue, bad job breaking everyone else's that used to work! Hopefully the next update comes out quick...
  3. Howdy, folks! Habu pointed me this way, I had no idea that our lil' vacation was going to cause such a stir! I'm back home now from what was a very long, fun, and totally exhausting caching adventure. I know now that there isn't a hill or mountain near San Diego that doesn't have a cache on top of it, and I'm pretty sure we climbed most of 'em! We were both very impressed with the creativity of the puzzles, and were also blown away by the views and scenery at nearly every cache. What a beautiful area of the country y'all live in...my legs didn't appreciate it at the time, but the rest of me sure does now. Pfalstad should get full credit for making the trip a success, he worked diligently for two months to solve puzzle after puzzle and also put together routes that would allow us to move efficiently around the city and grab as many as we could that were on the same trail systems. Normally I do a better job of solving puzzles, but this has been a very busy time for me (San Diego was the third trip I took in April alone, along with St Louis and Texas/New Mexico!) so he should get full kudos for being the mad genius behind all of this - all I had to do was drive, and ride his coattails to victory. I promise to carry my weight more on the next trip through the area for sure! But beyond the fantastic puzzles, I am totally floored by the quality of people that you have in your area as well. Besides this thread, which made my day, I've received a whole boatload of e-mails from all kinds of local cachers with kind words, congrats, thanks, and of course a few requests for hints as well...that really caught me off guard, I've never had that happen any other time I've been caching out of town, and is a real tribute to the cachers in and around San Deigo - y'all are a great group of folks, a great example to others, and I can't thank you enough for making us feel so welcome! To answer one question, we went in with a touch over 250 puzzles solved, and left with over 200 finds. Our primary targets were obviously the puzzles, if we grabbed a traditional it was only because it was directly on the same trail we were already walking, or directly on the driving route and was a quick park 'n grab - and even then it was hard to make pfalstad stop, because every one took time away from the puzzles. We made sure to grab a few random ones as well, because we didn't want people to figure out where some of the really hard puzzles were just from our traditional finds, so there are a few weird ones thrown in there as well. We ran out of time before we could find them all, but we hit most of the ones we really wanted to visit, and there are plenty left for another trip in the future! The only negative thing that came out of it was finding out about the coin thief in the area - had I known about that beforehand, I wouldn't have been so liberal in dropping coins everywhere. A few are easy to get, but I do feel a little better knowing that a good portion are in harder puzzles and longer hikes, and a couple of the caches haven't been found in almost a year - so if those coins disappear, I hope at least it helps to narrow down the field of suspects. I'm nervous about a few of the coins though, including one of my daughter's! But that aside, I have nothing but great memories from my trip. I really appreciate the time y'all took to make the puzzles and hide the caches, and for welcoming us with open arms. Special thanks to Habu! for meeting with us for lunch, and to a.k.a. Diana and Cache'n'Carey for putting up with us all day, through some brutal hikes and goofy moments - I hope the next time through the area, I get a chance to meet more of you! As mentioned, we did hide a handful of caches as well. It was the least we could do, and I hope the puzzles give everyone a bit of fun as well! We deliberately chose not to hide them at the end of long hikes or in the middle of any beautiful parks, mainly because we felt that the local cachers should have a chance to showcase the area and we weren't sure if we'd put them too close to another cache - and our maintainers are already driving an hour to help us, and it wouldn't be nice to subject them to nasty bushwhacking when they're already doing us such a tremendous favor. So the hides will be easy, but I hope the puzzles are something fun and different! Anyway, thanks for everything, especially those who took the time to drop me a note here and there, and I can't wait until I get a chance to return there soon! Take care and best regards, and thanks again- -Ken

  6. Just lost a Tennessee coin, after it's first hop from Minneapolis to Washington, DC. Here's the log entry from the physical log book: "6/10/2006 Chris, Jeff, Lew, Marty, Mike. Nothing like geocaching for your batchlor party. Nice cache guys. Took the geocoin, left funny Biz card." And of course, no logs on the website and no action on the coin. As a couple people have pointed out, the people that took it pr'bly don't remember the cache OR the coin, depending on how the party went. I must say, that was a unique one - who knows, maybe it'll show up again?
  7. WOW, now *that's* impressive! I can't do as well, but I'm tryin' to do my part: Collection: 2 (1 trackable, 1 non-trackable) In the wild: 77 Lost/Stolen/Muggled: 3 For those with 0 in a collection, isn't there just ONE coin you'd had a hard time putting a hole in and releasing into the wild? No regrets? -Ken
  8. When I have a TB go missing, I wait at least 6 months, then re-release a copy tag. I *paid* for the TB tag, I'm going to make darn sure I get to play with it! If TB's were free, I wouldn't mind putting them in a virtual graveyard, but when my $$'s involved, I want to make sure I get what I paid for - I'm not going to let a thief turn my TB tag into a donation. For coins, it's trickier, because the joy of a coin is finding the actual coin itself. I have 3 missing so far, and haven't found a good way to re-release them yet. But I think if a coin is lost or stolen, it's about the only good reason to release a laminate copy. Once I get off my lazy butt, I'll re-write the coin descriptions and make it clear they're copies, so people can at least get the icon if they so choose. It still doesn't make me feel like I'm getting my $$'s worth from a lost coin, but at least it'll be partial credit...
  9. Howdy folks, I was wondering if anyone knew of any way to reach someone at the geocoinstore.com *besides* the generic "info@geocoinstore.com" e-mail addy? Despite their front-page promise on their website that says "To receive prompt service please email info@geocoinclub.com to reach someone who can help you", I've sent them four messages in seven days with no reply. The problem is, I received two Geocaching University coins in the mail. The real problem is, I never *ordered* two GU coins. They've shipped three other orders to me successfully, but this one is definitely in error because another order says "shipped" but I never received it. There of course is no invoice, no paperwork, no tracking numbers, nothing associated with it - just the envelope and two wrong coins. I posted a message on their forum, and received no reply - except for someone ELSE who had the exact same thing happen, with two GU coins, and they can't get a reply either. I figure someone here MUST have had some dealings with them, and might have a phone number or alternate e-mail addy so I can get this sorted out? It's a very simple thing, but it's leaving a bad taste in my mouth. And what's the deal with the GU coins anyway, they can't sell them or something so they're shipping them to everyone? Any advice appreciated, y'all are the best - thanks, -Ken
  10. Howdy, please put me down for 1 coin if any are left - thanks! -Ken
  11. Put me down for 5 please - you can blame KC0GRN for showing me his collection. Thanks and best regards, -Ken
  12. To answer Black Dog Trackers and Colorado Papa, one of the reasons I keep the *original* 3mp pictures of each Benchmark is to prove authenticity, if required. By resizing I lose the "metadata" that includes the timestamp, camera info, etc etc that might serve to prove I was there and took the picture rather than manipulating something in Photoshop. I know it's paranoia and pr'bly not necessary, but it's just the way I am. Oh, also, to address the issue of letting the site resize - I know the site does the auto resize, but it doesn't do so until it uploads the entire ~3mb file. I batch-resize all of them, including the location shots, and it uploads the shots in MUCH less time over my shoddy connection. So that's my thinking on those two issues, for what it's worth - lmk what you think, thanks! -Ken
  13. I always keep the original closeup shot of the marker on my hard drive, ~3mb apiece, and delete the resized image that I upload to the site. I don't, however, keep the original "location" shots that show the views of the marker, witness posts, and the surrounding landscape - for those, I actually keep the resized images (~30kb) and delete the originals. Just a matter of personal preference and how much space you have to store images I guess! -Ken
  14. There is a similar cache set up for CITO anywhere in Minnesota, you can see it at this link - it might give you the flexibility to set it up for your state or area. For those who don't like to log a 'find' for their CITO activities, you can still participate and write a 'note' without adding to your find count. For those who like numbers, you can post a find. Either way, I can't see how anyone loses in this deal whatsoever - check it out, what do you think, is this what you had in mind? Regards, -Ken
  15. Hmm, why do y'all want a 2nd GPS, just out of curiosity? Do you have plans to go caching with a GPSr in each hand, or is it for a friend/mate/future geocacher?
  16. I dunno, I may be a newbie at this, but something about posting a note for a station that isn't actually found just doesn't seem right to me. I'd rather hold out hope that a building manager or someone with 'connections' can get someone up to the top to recover the station. Here in Minneapolis, there's a survey disk on top of the IDS building - the tallest building in downtown Minneapolis. It's PP2680 and I think it'd be quite the feather in a benchmarker's cap to actually log it with pictures and coordinates. Same for PP2721 - another disk on top of a tall office building. Since I don't think the building managers are in the business of letting anyone onto the top of the IDS building, I'm not sure anyone will actually see the disk anytime soon...if ever. But I think I would still rather have it unlogged than have a note posted stating that it's there without anyone actually verifying that the station is actually intact. Also, if there was a note posted to the station, I'd still read the description just to see what it said, so I'm not sure I'd save any time on the webpage either. Just my .02, -Ken
  17. Cool, glad it's working now! FYI, by "big error" I didn't mean it was necessarily an error with the site, just that it was big enough that a billion people would notice and report it, so I wasn't overly concerned about it. Thanks again as always, -Ken
  18. I just found this one today that was munched up pretty well - besides the big chunk that appears to be missing from a snowplow or something, the rest of it was pretty well eroded away. Anyone know if it's worth reporting to the NGS for replacement, or is it not far enough gone yet? Curiously yours, -Ken Link to QP0027
  19. FYI it's not a leap-year error, it was happening to me last night ~7pm CST. I figured I'd see if it was fixed overnight before mentioning it, since it's a pretty big error and all...
  20. So a friend of mine pointed out The Gematriculator web site today, and when I ran GC.com through it, it confirmed what I've always suspected... it's EVIL!!! Of course it claims to only return results that are "absolutely correct" so you know you can trust the results, right? Feel free to waste many hours of your time with it too...have fun! The Gematriculator ------ From their website: The Gematriculator is a service that uses the infallible methods of Gematria developed by Mr. Ivan Panin to determine how good or evil a web site or a text passage is. Basically, Gematria is searching for different patterns through the text, such as the amount of words beginning with a vowel. If the amount of these matches is divisible by a certain number, such as 7 (which is said to be God's number), there is an incontestable argument that the Spirit of God is ever present in the text. Another important aspect in gematria are the numerical values of letters: A=1, B=2 ... I=9, J=10, K=20 and so on. The Gematriculator uses Finnish alphabet, in which Y is a vowel. Experts consider the mathematical patterns in the text of the Holy Bible as God's watermark of authenticity. Thus, the Gematriculator provides only results that are absolutely correct.
  21. The secret is not to get caught browsing at work! Speaking of which, I gotta go.
  22. No, no, I think this guy IS the motherlode - besides the two examples listed above, look closer at the rest. Check out the "jaggies" and pixelation around the left side of the hand and GPS in this shot - you can still see the original dark background on the jagged left side of the hand in the image below, and he accidently cut out part of his watch band in the picture below: Compare it side by side with this other image, and you'll see what I mean. I don't understand the point of faking it, but to each his own I guess!
  23. While I'm not sure that anyone should be replacing anyone else's cache, one thing I *did* like on the first of Mopar's linked caches was this: if you read the logs, there's one guy that logged a "find" after he found out the cache was stolen. He went there, didn't find it, and logged a DNF. In his log, he mentioned that if he found out it was stolen, that he'd edit his log entry later to log a find. Sure enough, after he saw it was gone, he went in and logged it as a "find". Now, what is the point of logging a find if you don't actually FIND the cache? So what if it was stolen, he still didn't actually FIND it, did he? Is this standard practice, or am I missing something here? Just curious...
  24. Yup, my measly count dropped from 16 to 4, so I think you're right on. No big deal to me, but I can already see some people getting bent out of shape over it - from now on, does this mean people will log the TB's in-and-out of the same cache rather than posting notes?
  25. I received the spam as well - I found it interesting, since I don't own a single travel bug (yet). The spam part didn't really bother me, but in one of the threads on the TB board someone said the official race site attempts to d/l spyware onto your PC. Now THAT would bother me! Regards, -Ken
