  1. I have added a live chat section to the forum that is at the bottom of the main page. This will enable users to talk live with other users and carry on real time conversations. There are still some visual things on the site that have changed and that I am working on fixing.
  2. Thanks for the reply. If you have any GPS trails that you have saved from Washington I would love to create a Washington Trails topic on my forum. I have a guy that is just posting some from Montana and we have added that state. Let me know. Thanks!
  3. I just launched a new website for the Idaho area. I am an outdoor kind of person and am into Geocacheing, offroading, and camping. I have put together a new website, www.offroadidaho.com to document trails and camping locations. The site also has a forum with documented Jeep trails and sections for camping and geocaching. Like I said, the site is new and is just getting going. If you have any suggestions please let me know. Email me through the offroadidaho.com website.
  4. So I have had my eye on the Nuvi 500. Currently for geocaching I use an Etrex Vista HCX. My big question is with the Nuvi 500 is would it be as acurate as my handheld HCX as I am getting within feet of a geocache? That is the only thing tumbling around in my mind.
  5. MY mistake. You need MapSource and nroute to have realtime navigation on a topo map. How funny, I already own the Topo U.S. 2008 Mapsource disc. I downloaded the nRoute and it worked like a charm, exactly what I was looking for. I just never knew nRoute existed. Thanks guys!!!
  6. I have several Topo map software programs to use on my computer but none of them seem to let you plug in a GPS and let you track on your computer. For instance Microsoft makes their yearly Streets and Trips mapping program that lets me plug in a USB GPS antenna and track real time on my laptop. I want a Topo software program that will allow me to connect either my USB GPS, my Garmin Vista HCx, or my Garmin 200W to track real time on my computer. Anyone know of a good Topo program to do this?
  7. OK so I pulled up Google Earth again and under the temporary places where the Geocache stuff is. Under this it says something like you have exceeded your number of allowed views for the day, try back tomorrow. What is this all about?
  8. Am I the only one having problems with the Google Earth link on the Geocache website? Google Earth opens but none of the caches show up on the map. Quit working after the upgrade......
  9. I do most of my cacheing outdoors and out of the city. I carry my .357 in a vertical shoulder rig with spare ammo pouch on the other side.
  10. I have been using the Krylon Fushion paint made for plastics and it seems to work awesome!!! This particular paint really does bind well to plastic surfaces. I have used the dark green color on several different brand plastic containers and have been very happy.
  11. If you wanted to get some real cards made I would use this company http://www.mintcards.cc/big1.php?id=659 . These are an example of cards that I had made a couple of years ago. The quality looks and feels like real baseball cards. They are totally customized to your specs and the pricing is reasonable. As you can see on the back of mine you can even put a sponsor and their logo if you can find someone to foot the bill for you.
  12. I have done it using Microsoft Streets and Trips. I started with a pocket query and then imported the data into Streets and Trips. Click on my user name and view my profile, the maps are on there for people to see.....
  13. My idea is that if someone places a cool item in my cache that I want, I will contact the person that placed it there by email and ask them if they would mind me going and trading an equal item for their item. If they want me to leave it for someone else, then I will. I think that is more than fair even though it is my cache......
  14. OK so like many of you I have a mileage tracking travel bug. I always drop my bug into caches that I find, but I also hide quite a few caches. I have never dropped my mileage bug into caches but I am thinking of starting to do that. Do you think this practice is ok? After all I am traveling the mileage for the Geocaching hobbie......
  15. I am just wondering what people take with them when they go out geo caching? Besides the obvious GPS....... Do you take new Zip Lock bags to replace torn ones at cache sites? Things like this are what I am curious about. Any other tools or off the wall things you take?
  16. I was not aware about the requirement of the log, I will read up. Also I have never found a wet filmcanister because they were all hidden well. I would also be useing the white filmcanisters that seem to be a little more heafty. I saw a bag of 30 of them on ebay for about $6 I think. Doesnt get more cost effective than that.......Thanks for all of the info.
  17. I want to put out some film canister caches and am looking for the way to put a log in it. I have seen the strands of lined paper but they seem to be so confusing when people get them mixed up and the dates are everywhere on them. Any creative ideas for paper logs in these caches? How about non paper logs, anyone using the internet in some way for people to log the finds? Maybe like leaving a piece of paper in the cache with a key word or phrase and people have to email it to you to be considered a genuine log of the cache? Any ideas or feedback would be great!!!
  18. Thanks for the cache stat download. So on the Statcounter.com stuff, I can add a counter to any of my cache's and see how many people view my caches? Is it easy to do? (I have not had time to visit the website for the counter yet)
  19. I have seen a lot of peoples profile pages that have special maps or stat sheets that show their progress. I also saw a cache listing that had like a page counter that showed how many people have looked at their cache online. Can someone direct me to some good websites where I can download or aquire these add on features? Anyone want to just elaborate on this topic and give me some further insight? Thanks!
  20. What exactly goes into reviewing of newly posted caches? Do they just read through them to make sure there is no profanity and such?
  21. Yes they were posted after the weekend was over. Thanks!
  22. Great - thats what this forum is all about! Thanks guys! Appreciate the help!
  23. Wow this looks great thanks for the software. Is there a way to download maps to my Garmin Vista using this software?
  24. I was wondering if there is anything in the works about the way people can search for caches. For instance, I only like looking for regular size caches. Will there be a way to filter out all the other size caches and only show regular size ones in a specific area I am viewing on a map? Maybe I want to filter out vitual caches while looking at the map? Are any of these filters a possibilty for the future?
  25. Anyone selling a copy of the above CD? Anyone want to trade anything for the CD? Let me know any way I can get a hold of a copy of this....... need it for my Garmin Vista Please PM me if you feel it is necessary......
