  1. It looks like the previous person to have that coin forgot or didn't get around to logging it INTO the cache you found it in. It looks like you grabbed it from them, which is fine. The only thing is that the coin will have no record of being in that cache. Next time you can send a note to the person holding on to the coin saying that you picked it up and could they "electronically" drop it in the cache so that you can "electronically" pick it up. No harm done. Looks like you are holding the coin and when you place it in a new cache a list of your trackables list will be at the bottom of the log, just highlight the coin to be dropped and it WILL be dropped in the cache. Happy caching!
  2. Am I missing something? I just looked up your coin and it says it was dropped on the 2nd of July. Did they past date the log? Anyway, looks like it's back on it's way. YEA!!!
  3. I have no idea what the standards are. That's what's being asked - what are they? Who decides what's ok and how do they decide that? Sheesh. I'm not trying to push my opinion or values on anyone. I'm just hoping to get some information. If this thread ever gets back on topic, it might actually be interesting. TPTB are the ones to ask what the standards are because here all you can expect are opinions - and those will be as varied as snowflakes. I don't agree with the underlying concept of this coin or the Serial Cacher coin...but they did get approved and for my part..I just don't buy them. If coins like this don't sell, then they won't be made. Here here!!!

What are the standards? Who sets them and when is this ridiculous?
  5. Actually, I don't think this thread was meant to be a complaint department. I think it was started to address this very idea. What are the standards, what would be grounds for revsions or flat out rejection? Ok then are the standards that blood and gore is appropriate and perceived sexuality is not? I have 5 children and I hope they will not be mass murderers AND I hope they will have a healthy sex life. Now, do I think that a coin with blood will lead them on a path to be a serial killer? No. Do I think that swirly drawings that "could" be looked at as sexual is going to whack my kids sexual health? No. This is a pet peeve for me. I have more friends that will allow their children to see a movie that shows killing but if it shows breasts.... oh my gosh!
  6. Ha, ha, ha. I can't even believe this thread. So what... if you squint and turn your head to the side and use A LOT of imagination you maybe "see" something in the drawing? How ridiculous. So no one complains about the weird two horned guy with blood but when someone "thinks" they "might" see something sexual you get all up in arms? Gore ok, sex not ok. I get it now. My suggestion is if it offends you don't buy it, don't pick it up from and cache and for goodness sake keep your children from it. But really, it sounds like some of you might need another hobby, something less controversial. Just my 10 cents!
  7. I think the most annoying part is when it doesn't say it's a proxy on the name of the coin. When the NAME says "proxy" then you see that on the cache page. That way if you are going to a cache with the idea to find a coin or add the icon you aren't disappointed when it's a proxy.
  8. Orrr.... you could put out a new cache and make this FTF coin one that travels from one new cache to another. The idea is you put a cache out and put the FTF coin in. Who ever finds it first picks the coin up and is supposed to put another cache out with the coin in. Seems that these coins stay around longer and get new caches put out in our area. Oh, make sure you give your FTF coin the "pay it forward" idea as it's mission. Congratulations on your new coin!
  9. Spinning this example to coins. If I have an idea, and I hire an artist to flesh it out, it's understood that I'm the owner and copyright holder. If it were like photo's I'd have to pay the artist again to make a second run, and again if I liked the design enough for a T-Shirt all when the art is complete and done. I'm glad that coins don't work like photographers. I am a photographer and I think we work very much the same as coin manufacturers. You pay for a coin to be designed once, you pay for a photographer to come out and set up and take a shot and edit once. Now every time you want prints of the ... coin or the image you pay for it. Sounds exactly the same to me. Why is it ok in your opinion to pay for a second run of coins (there is profit being made) but not ok for a second run of photos? Just FYI many photographers will sell you a cd of the "negatives" but still the photographer owns the copyright. You can make copies for family etc but could NOT sell the photographers image to .... vogue or campbell soup, for example. You couldn't profit off their work. You don't work the same as coin makers at all. I retain the copyright to my work when I go to a coin maker. I don't have to pay them again for the die. It's arelady done. I don't have to pay for the artist again. It's arleady done. I own the die though it's customary to store it at the coin maker. Some will destory it upon request. Others will ship them to you if you are willing to pay to ship the dies. The copyright issue is a major difference between the two. If you sell me the negatives but dont give me the copyright you have done me no favors as a photographer. If I commission you to do a work for my reproduction and that's understood you may retain the copyright but you would have no right to prevent my sale and reproduction of that which I have commissioned. Ironicly if I arrange my family just so. I can claim a copyright on the resulting living sculptuer and claim repoduction rights as part of my copyright of any deravative works. Not sure how the heck that works with a copyrighted photo of my living sculpture. Well that's the way photography works. Sorry you disagree, but that doesn't change the facts. When you by the negatives you NEVER get the copyright unless the photographer specifically gives it to you. It is, in copyright terms, assumed copyright. Oh by the way you can't claim a copyright on a non-permanent item unless you document it in some way. So the living sculpture idea does not make sense in this discussion
  10. I found a couple threads where it was discussed before Copyright, Some info for designers TV & Movie Geocoins? What's the policy? Coin design and copywrite issues, Dharma Initiative I remember more discussions, but can't seem to find them... I think a summary of the consensus is that the design needs to be changed enough, such that it's clearly different.. yes a lot of designs probably could be sued over, but they probably won't be.. and it's always best to ask for permission first. That's what I thought. As popular as Geocaching seems to be getting. I think coin designers should be a bit more careful! Thanks for the info.
  11. I asked before and no one answered... Just curious, how is it that coins can be made to look like popular toys, Disney characters etc? Are these items NOT trade marked? Is it just that we are not big enough to attract attention or is there some kind of copywrite loophole? Again, just curious.

  13. We were looking for a cache in a popular rock climbing spot. As we were looking, a couple came to do some climbing right near us. We just continued to massage the rocks, looking here and there. One of the two that was above me on the rock asked what we were up to, I explained to which he says, "oh is this it? I just moved it because it was sitting in a handhold". I guess that's not ALMOST caught.
  14. I have 6 coins traveling and 3 have gone missing. Two were quite mysterious, a cacher picked one up and held it for 4 months or so. I sent her a nice email and she apologized and said she would put it out that day. Well she logged it into a popular cache in their area and the very next cacher THAT DAY said it wasn't there. Seems that possibly she had lost the coin and didn't want to admit it. Another coin was picked up but never logged out and held for over a month and ... again, I wrote a nice email and the coin was dropped in a cache in another state. The cacher then wrote to me asking for the tracking number since he had never logged it out and didn't have it in his inventory, I gave it to him and the next cacher on the next day said the coin wasn't there. My assumption is he lost it, which is why he never logged it out. This just seems like dishonesty. I would much prefer someone saying "...oops, I lost it". So a 50% loss for me.
  15. HarryMoe and I LOVE the 007BigD's glow in the dark coin. Harry is so very proud to have such a special addition! Thanks Big D!!!
  16. I went on the adventure consultants website and there IS an expedition scheduled to everest on March 30-June 2. Here's the link Everest You never know... maybe your coin is in for a trip. This seems like an odd way to steal coins.. don't ya think?

  18. Since the question of activating and trading activated coins has been pretty well covered I'll tackle the issue of contacting the trader after the trade. By all means let the person know their package arrived safe and sound and how you feel about the trade. If you like icons, and I can tell you that I do, keep an extra coin for your collection and activate it for the icon. If you trade it and adopt it away you may lose the icon, unless you discover it before it goes but that's a whole other ethical issue.
  19. No one's mentioned the Red Wings yet.... nice coin too.
  20. After talking about this with Droo, I had NEVER thought of the idea of putting out a proxy for each of the coins you have already lost. What a brilliant idea! Thank you Kimberly aka TeemSeekandweshallfind, I was completely against proxies until you started this thread. Now I am a believer. Half of the coins I have released have gone missing, possibly more than that, I'm still checking on a couple. This would resurrect my old coins!!! YEA!
  21. I would also LOVE this added to the options. My sister and I keep up with eachother as well as watching the "secret" cachers movements (coin search ya know). Is this in the works???
  22. If one tries to log the red jeep in as you do every other TB or coin is says "this tb is unactivated" When you click ok it asks you for your activation code. There was no information that came with the jeep at all. Thank you to the person that explained to go to www.Groundspeak.com and put the tb # for your jeep in the little window next to "found a travel bug?". Best to not Yell if you aren't sure if there is really a problem or not... yes?
