  1. Well thats what I was looking for but since I needed to get two cables for 50 to 60 bucks I just took the etrex h back and traded up for a venture hc with the cables etc for about the same money. It's a shame they don't make the etrex h with usb connections as I like it better. Less drift and it seemed to lock in faster and as a added bonus no clutter. Just a plain old gps. I sure appreciate everyone's help! thanks!!
  2. I need a data cable for a Etrex H. I dunno know if anyone has a spare laying around or just an old one you want to get rid of but I reckon it don't hurt to ask. Thanks.
  3. Well I'll start the bidding at $25 American dollars or maybe you can give us a better idea of how much you might take for this jewel.
  4. Hotsync installs a shortcut into your startup folder by default, you might make sure the shortcut is still there so it loads when windows starts. It may have accidently got deleted or you may have unchecked it in the Hotsync setup. Go to setup and under the General tab make sure you have "Always available {put in startup folder}" checked and restart windows.
  5. This article/web page explains it in a concise and simple step by step process. Hope it helps!
  6. Your right it's all junk. I have the ability and technology to properly dispose of your junk . I can pm you the address for you to send your 21st century junk for proper disposal , which will be done at no charge to you . Please let me know if you need any assistance. All jokes aside.... There is a reason the Magellan Conversion Manager was included in the software that was with the 500 when you purchased it. It's a pretty slick little program that can convert many map file types for use with your 500. I had the same issues when I first tried to use a older version of topo 3d that I had bought, 1.0 instead of 1.5 as it was considerably cheaper. Version 1.5 does the conversion for you, 1.0 you have to run the conversion manager to convert it from a *.img file to a *.imi file. Like you I failed to pick up on this right away so please do not feel alone in your frustrations. After two evening's racking my brain and raising my stress level I figured out it would work but I had to use that handy little program that came with the GPS and that was only after I came here and done a search and found step by step directions on how to do it that some kind, considerate, thoughtful person had posted. Good luck with your credit card dispute although it may be a difficult road since your software will work when applied properly. Hopefully, it all goes smoothly and you have better luck with a Garmin product.
  7. First you have to open Mapsend and make the region you want to down load then you save it using Mapsend. It will make a *.imi file and place it in the C:\program files\magellan\mapsend topo\export file on your harddrive. Then you need to open the program that came with your 500 called Magellan Conversion Manager. It will convert it {the .imi file} to the file you need and also put it on your SD Card or onto your Explorist. With a SD card you can read a map up to 250 meg or so. You will probably only have about 7 or 8 meg available without a card. You will also need to make sure your Explorist is set for File Transfer when you start it up with your cable attached. After you have successfully downloaded your maps to your card or your Explorist you will then need to choose the map you want to load. Hit menu then preferences then active setup then choose your detail map. That's pretty much it in a small nutshell, there is more detailed directions somewhere here, you will just need to do a search. It's simple, once you do it you will wonder how it hung you up for a week !
  8. I would think if your battery leaked lithuim to the point that you needed to worry about getting it wet then indeed you have more than one problem that surely needs to be addressed before leaving the comfort and relative dryness of home. In short, I've had my 600 pretty well soaked and submerged with no issues. Not only is the battery well sealed but the battery compartment is also sealed. I wouldn't spend a lot of time worrying about getting your GPS wet.
  9. http://www.cascadegps.com/store/product.ph...t=32&page=1 CascadeGPS has the 210 outdoor bundle for 159 plus 4 bucks shipping. The outdoor bundle includes the Mapsend topo, 12v adapter and the case. They are able to ship from all over so there is no need to pay more for shipping as you should receive it within a reasonable time. I've bought several things there with never any negative issues and they have always been awesome to deal with. I have been thinking of buying a 210 myself to have as spare for geocaching and also use it hunting. The 600 is sweet but it's a little much for marking/finding treestands in the dark.
  10. I think sometimes we over analyze a situation. Sounds like your cache is in a great spot, people get to go out in the woods to find a cache and as a bonus they also have a wonderful oppurtunity to see wildlife in their natural habitat. I seriously doubt the cachers you mention are the first humans the deer have ever seen in or near that location and I also doubt seriously that the deer were traumatized by seeing humans. Just another perspective. Good Luck !!
  11. Figures...... I watch the forum for weeks waiting for a good deal on a Pocket PC and the week after I spring for a new Palm one comes available HAHA, just my luck these days.

I think he is asking because GSAK asks for your GC number and in fact recommends it everytime you generate a file for your handheld or GPS to log your finds.
  13. note to self.... never take or trade anything from a cache..... just sign the darn log and get the heck outa there .....
  14. Anymore it really ain't the price of the toys that gets ya... it's the price of the "accessories" you need to be able to use the toy as intended that rips a new whole in yer skivvies every single time. In comparison to my other "toys" the GPS is rather cheap.
  15. That could leave a person stranded somewhere if your battery died or your gps took a crap or didnt work for whatever reason but your buddy's gps still worked but no maps or POIs as in where the truck was lol. It's a sad day when your life is only worth what you pay out for software.
  16. The more I use my explorist the more I like it and find it becomes easier to use. As far as the windshield mount the only problem I seen with it is you have to make sure you have the two suction cups up and only one suction cup on the bottum. If you only have to one cup on top then it won't "stay stuck" properly. I had no trouble connecting the cable in the back once I got my fingers in the right place. Hopefully you will have better luck with the next one, whatever brand you might choose! Good luck.
  17. So much for Hoosier Hospitality, I won't be staying in any parks in Tippecanoe County anytime soon .... Knowing my luck I would break some obscure or unspoken law and get tossed out on my arse.
  18. Are you sure the sd card is in properly and the sd card holder is "snapped" down and into place? On mine it's possible to get the card in the holder wrong but it won't snap down because just a bit of the card sticks out to far. The card should lie flat when in properly and it should't take up anymore room than not being in there at all. Good Luck, sorry I'm not much help.
