  1. Having had a cougar encounter myself, the best advise I have is ,"Don't run!" Eventhough my instinct told me too and I almost did, don't. From the reports of this attack, it sure sounds like there wasn"t any warnings or sounds like I heard before seeing it, and there's the difference. It's one thing to face a cougar and it't different when it just suddenly lounges at you without warning of anykind.

Even though I had an encounter with one and it's been the only one I have seen in my 30 plus years of trumping through the bush, I would be suprise to see another one unless I'm hunting for one, but I could be wrong. None the less, it hasn't stopped me from doing what I love best and that's spending time in the great outdoors. I'm afraid when I grow really really old, I'll be lucky if I can even make it out my front door and that will be as close to the widerness I can get. So a cougar encounter isn't going to stop me from what I love best, unless one kills me. I should carry protection, knife, stick, cannon, etc.. more often but it seems that since my encounter, I am more aware of my surroundings.

I still believe it's more dangerous living amoug people than getting kill by a cougar.

  2. I also found a problem with refreshing when you move around on Softmap. Waypoints seem to disappear from the screen and I could only get them back by deleting the waypoints in the folder and reloading the loc file. Not sure if this is a bug or because I need more memory or just a problem with Softmap! The result is that when you double click on the waypoint it recentres but the waypoint disappears.

What I do is go into forms, click waypoints then edit then just close the window and voila, your waypoint is back on the screen. I'm not to crazy about softmap though, it works but the quality should be better. I wish Fugawi would hurry up and release their map DVD for my area, sounds like a better product.

  3. ...I got stuck on the biggest boulder crossing a river, ended up with a bent drive shaft. Once I made it back to the highway I took the drive shaft off and drove home with only the front drive. Man my arms ever got tired from counter steering all the way.

  4. Caching has medicinal benefits especially after seeing the doctor. :D Hope you recover from your injuries quickly, so far I've manage to dislocated both shoulders. As least it's far from the heart! :D

  5. I got stuck once! Let's see... oh yeah! in traffic. ;) Joking aside, in northern Ontario I got stuck on a sand bar in Lake Superior late one night, next day someone I knew with a skidder came and pulled me out. Wish I had a picture of that as I had a canoe on my rack at the time. Then there was this time I spent all night in the bush unstucking myself out of a mudhole. Then there was this other time... B)

  6. It all but pretty much melted away here in Victoria. I hear we might get somemore this week-end but you never know around here for sure.
