  1. Hello, I hope this is still appropriate. Years ago I collected lots of geocoins and simply held on to them but now I'd like to sell them since I have lugged them across an entire continent for no real reason. I am not sure if I've gotten the name right so I'll send you a picture of the geocoin you want so you can be sure it's what you want. I may have some rare ones since I used to be fairly big into it! All of these ones will be unactivated and have an activation code. 'Pororoca, The Endless Wave' in silver Hibiscus Sandles in gold Sailboat suncatcher in gold Microorganism Green Moebius (mini) Microorganism Red Coccus (mini) Microrganism Purple Coli (mini) Microorganism Borellia Black (mini) Sliding number puzzle coin (with moveable parts and everything!) 250 Finds Geo-achievement Three musketeers coin in purple and pewter (I think) 3-D compass with movable earth and rings around the earth in bronze (I think) x 2 10 hides geocoins Would anyone be interested in these? I would prefer to send them within the UK out of laziness and was thinking £10 each + shipping and have money sent by paypal. I know this post is a bit wishy-washy but I'm not sure if people still want or trust people posting on the forums like this! Thank you
  2. My boyfriend and I went caching in this area called Dartmouth Crossing here in Nova Scotia. There were some basic magnetic micros and then there were some that were equidistant from all the buildings but were in this great hiking system. But it made me sad to think that once, the entire Dartmouth Crossing area was beautiful woodland like the fringes. Now it's mostly parking lot. Anyway, yes somethings there are great spots very close, and you need to go exploring to find them! But that also means that you can't dismiss a cache just because it appears to be near a shopping complex as an LPC.
  3. If you explain your situation they may allow it. I have caches in Nova Scotia and the Cayman Islands that each got approved because I go to university in Nova Scotia and grew up/come home every break to the Cayman Islands. I said that my family would be willing to check on any caches, and they hid them all with me, but so far they haven't had to do that once. Are you going back and forth between Alaska all summer, or do you just go once? How likely is that situation to change?
  4. I read this thread this morning, went out for a cache, and who would have guessed it - I got caught by the po' po'. He was very very handsome and if I had been a single lady, I might have clasped my wrists together and gotten him to arrest me, but I digress. I explained what it was, he wanted to see where it was but I couldn't find it. I had found it before and was coming to drop some TB's, and now that I got home, I see that it'd been moved, but I couldn't find it and he helped me look but not for too long. All in all a pretty pleasant experience.
  5. Maybe the estate of Lazarus bought it, and is now thinking 'what the h are we going to do with this now'.
  6. This is great information - I want to set up my first Earth Cache and I don't have a PDA (but use scrap paper!) so I didn't know about the cut off! I'll try and see how close to the top I can add the questions!
  7. So does that mean that every time I've taken a photo and there has been someone in the background, like at a beach or a lookout spot, that's been against the law? There must be some usage clause or something, wouldn't there? Because then I have illegal material in frames all over the house?
  8. I usually log all my DNFs if I actually looked, not if, for example, I was traveling with a group that didn't want to stop and look, even if i got within 20 meters and scoped out the area. There's no shame in them!
  9. Ahhhh, okay. I guess the FindStatGen people overlooked that? I could edit the .gpx's in Notepad to reflect the correct number of finds I guess, but that would be a bit of an arduous task.
  10. Okay, we're using GSAK and the FindStatGen3 macro [[stats generated by FindStatGen3 V3.5.15 by rutson and lignumaqua, running onGSAK v7.5.2.27]] to create fancy graphs for our profile. It works just fine, except for the section about our PLACED caches. It will report ~20 finds on a cache that has ~90 find logs. I dug around and discovered that issue was in the .gpx file. For some reason it includes some logs, and not others. It simply neglects like 70 logs! There doesn't seem to be a "limit," since one file read 21 finds (which is a weird number to cap it at, we figure). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has else noticed this/has a work around. Thank you!
  11. I put a geocoin in a brand new cache I had set up, the first person to go to it is a local cacher that while I don't know, I do know she has logged into geocaching.com. She hasn't found any caches since she found the ones here. She wrote in her log that she took it but hasn't logged it out of the cache for 3 months! Since December! She's done the same with another local cacher that I know, and she's sent her several emails about taking her bugs since then. I think she lost them and is too much of a cat to admit it. I will keep hounding her, Cayman is small, she cannot escape!!!
  12. This is beautiful advice. If you're faced with non-understanding security, take the cache with you, show them where you want to put it, bring your GPS and let them see how harmless it is. It's easier to explain it object-in-hand then to speak vaguely about it.
  13. Crab, while I agree that some people were a little bit harsh, you must understand how you seemed from an in-group perspective. Imagine walking into a different culture and, because you're not a part of the culture, you make a few mistakes. Some people try and help you, and some will insult you. That's just life, that'll happen whenever you become immersed in something new. But where you went wrong is insulting people back. This is THEIR 'territory', they're the in-group, and you're part of the out-group. In order to have people not insult you, you have to learn more before opening your mouth. Otherwise, you become the ignorant tourist. When you learn the customs and ways of the in-group, then you can become more bold, but you can't do it right off the bat. Why don't you find more caches? And when you get to 100 (which seems like a lot at first but they will quickly accumulate) and then you can understand how the geocaching community works better, and less people will be mean, more people will be helpful. But are you really the same age as I am? ~~ Also, please please please don't put a cache under a bridge: http://www.google.ca/search?hl=en&safe...omb&spell=1 It's a google search for geocache mistaken for bomb and turns up LOTS of results. It gives us a bad name and may eventually spoil the fun for everyone if legislation gets put in place regarding geocaching. But, I would love to see pictures of the cache you came up with, it sounds cool.
  14. As long as you make reviewer notes and give all necessary information, like how often you go there etc. If you have someone that can help out if absolutely necessary, it would be worth mentioning that. For example, I have caches that are 3000 km apart, because I alternate monthly between the Cayman Islands and Nova Scotia. I have friends in Nova Scotia and family in the Cayman Islands to help out for anything absolutely necessary. And this was all listed on my page when I submitted it!
  15. Ohhhhh! I want to see these awesome things!
  16. WAIT WHAT? Never in a million years would I ever have expected this!!! Why me?! THANK YOU SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!! It's beautiful and it really warmed me up after a longggg colddddd day! Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you thank you thank you thank you!!!!! Geo-bandit, you're the best!!
  17. How does one activate these guys? I tried coincodes.com and it apparently cannot be found?
  18. The restrictions for the local area consist of no fishing and especially no spear fishing. We don't have a National Parks and I know that I could get permission from the Department of Enviornment, but I don't know if they are the right people?
  19. I'd like to make an earth cache which involves people snorkelling and observing the Coral Reefs of the Cayman Islands (where I lived) from a more geological perspective. I've seen topics regarding coral reefs, and that yes they can be considered as a spot for an earth cache. The only trouble is: Who do I ask for permission? Nobody owns it, nor manages it. It's the ocean! I could ask permission from a local dive spot near where I would like to put it, but to what point? They don't own it or maintain it. Should I ask permission from the Department of Environment or the Department of Tourism?
  20. As far as I know - it is illegal, and if someone checks your bag at the airport and is feeling particularly angry, they can seize it. I have heard of stories of similar electronics (just from being the caribbean) being held until the person leaves - but that was probably luck that they got an honest customs person and was able to get it back. A quick search on the Lonely Planet website (a great resource for any traveler) gives me these results which are worth the read: http://www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/thre...3
  21. How do the vendors know which name belongs to which geocaching account? I don't think that when I order via established websites that they know my geocaching account name. Full names posted here would, in my opinion, be a bad bad idea for business.
  22. I like the idea of having a 'People's Choice' set of awards, and as well one by the 'Academy'. They each have their own merits. I would like to warn you though, counting votes can be very time consuming, knowing this from experience of people's choice awards.
  23. Are you sure that you had your coordinates right in your GPS? In the right format? Why didn't you say you were geocaching? And why would you ignore the signs?
  24. I would still send them a message via their userpage though, even though they might not be caching any more, the emails may still be sent to an email they still check. Hopefully...
