  1. I just done a search of the location you gave to find nearest cache. Using ruler tool on Google maps, comparing your co-ords with the nearest to what you gave. It looks like to closest cache to where you are looking to put new one is about 1,500ft away, which means you have ample room using the 528ft guidlines. Also when you are doing the cache page you enter the co-ords using any format, it will automatically detect the format you are using and convert them for you. After putting in the co-ords it will show you a map with red circles. If you are outside those circles you are fine. If the reviewer has any problem they will usually work with you to resolve them. I would recommend reading the following page at least a few time before placing cache. https://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx Good luck on your first placement. Don't fret if there is a delay with publishing, it can take up to a week to be reviewed (Or sometimes even that day if you are lucky).
  2. You will find the App in the Play Store. Do a search for GEOCACHE, look for the one with INTRO across the bottom right corner. Good luck
  3. I remember when I was new to Geo-caching. I had the same problem. Even now with over 150 finds I have some that I have to go back to. There was one recently I looked and looked and then looked some more. I had about five attempts at it, each on a separate day. Then one Sunday afternoon I decided to have another go at it. I had it on my watch list for a few weeks and others were finding it with no problem. On this specific Sunday I went looking for it and found it within two minutes. I still ask myself how I could have missed it on the original visits and not spot it. Sometimes we have off days. I see you have found ten so far, four or five in the last couple days. If you are still having problems finding a specific cache I would suggest passing it up for maybe a couple weeks. You will find it eventually. Don't get disheartened because of one or two that give you difficulty. Looking at the ones you have found so far and guessing your approx home location to be near Airport or Hospital, I would keep doing what you have been doing. Maybe try some of the ones along the bay. Then once you have a bit more of an idea of what you are looking for (maybe 50 or so finds) then go back to the DNFs. I know when you are first starting out it can be difficult. As a lot of experienced cachers have said here and on other posts, it is the fun of the hunt that is important. Don't concern yourself with the numbers and stats. The main thing is have fun! Good luck
  4. To further add to what has been said, the grey dots on the Free App are ones that are more than a certain distance from your current location. You should find that as you get nearer the grey dots will show up after a refresh of the map. Glad you are enjoying the experience, it is most certainly more enjoyable if the whole family gets involved. Also the young ones can make it easier to hunt as they can go places and do things where adults look a little more suspect.
  5. I can certainly understand to OPs feelings. However not I am sure the Reviewer has a reason for declining. Having said that and reading all the replies, I note that one Reviewer has suggested at least twice that the OP take it further up the ladder and go to appeals. I know the OP is reluctant to do so out of fear of upsetting the apple cart. But once again I am sure the reviewer that has posted here has reasons for suggesting appeal. I would go ahead and try the appeal process, there may be something the original reviewer is not happy accepting that the appeal process will allow the placements. I hope this all makes sense and wish the OP the best of luck.
  6. It sounds like a great idea to me. One suggestion I would like to make that ties in with a few others. As OP suggested, make it a multi. Stage 1 = Mailbox with flag and safety info. Stage 2 and additional stages being points of interest. The final stage with the log would be near Stage 1 and being a separate container. For example the description on the Cache page takes them to the Mailbox. The Stage before the final would have a hint "Below mailbox" or "At base of post" with same co-ordinates as mailbox. This way they have to return to lower the flag. Or maybe lowering the flag release the cache with final log. Just an idea. As previous poster stated it is up to reviewer if it is acceptable or not. Good luck. I hope you find a way.
  7. I have seen a number or logs where the finder has added a picture. Can someone please explain how I can do this. The CO has asked in the description that finders place an image of their experience. And I would like to add my photo. Thanks.
  8. Looks to me the OP is meaning GC, looked at another post by OP and it is same QC. Not sure I completely understand the question though.
  9. Really enjoyed different perspectives on this topic. It is something I am always worried about. I like the idea of looking natural and also using a camera. The thought of reverse-psychology seems to come to mind. Most of the caches in my area are high muggle zones. I will have to try to look boring so no-one takes notice. Thanks for all the tips from experienced members.
  10. hi Justin, Welcome to the world of Geocaching. I am a little new to this myself. I have a few in my area that I have been to three or four times and still can't find them. What I do is look around and find something that is a little easier and when I have some extra time I go back to those ones I can not find. There is one in particular I have been to three times and it still proves elusive, I know in time I will find it. I had a look on your profile to see if there is anything near you that may be easy to get you started. I congratulate you on the one you found, I would have left that till I had a bit more experience, due to its size and rating. I would try these to get you started.. Papa Bear http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC2M6KW_papa-bear Parrot Pete's Deux http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC3A0XG_parrot-petes-deux How Smart is Your Pet? http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC1JCYB_how-smart-is-your-pet They are within a couple of miles of the first one you found. Keep us updated on how you go.
  11. I have found the other account from one of my finds, had to go back a fair way to find it on the log. It seems I had the first account on a phone that broke on me and I could not get the info off and could not remember the username or email address as it was one that was connected with that phone. Now the problem is either merging the two accounts or getting the finds on original account to my new one. I guess that is something I will have to take up with Groundspeak Admin, unless there is a simple way to solve. If it can not be done that is something I will have to accept. I plan to go back to UK and will be in the same area, so will not be an issue returning to them and re-logging them with new account when I get back. I really appreciate all the help from this forum. Everyone is friendly and replies are prompt. It is a pleasure to be a member of such a group.
  12. I don't know what other information I can give. I looked on one that I found but could find no name that I would use. I was about to look on some other finds but got sidetracked. Am about to look at others now. Let me know what specific info would help solve this. Appreciate your help so far.
  13. I was looking at my account settings today and noticed my home location was set to my UK address. Also I have only been in NZ for a few months and my profile says I joined just over 12 months ago. I have also checked using other email accounts that I use and only one works and that is one I currently use.
  14. I have been a Basic Member for just on a year. When I first joined I was living in UK, now in New Zealand. While I was in UK I found and logged a few finds. For some reason they are not showing as found. I know I am using the same account that I had in UK. Any help on this would be appreciated.
  15. Thanks for the fast replies. Really appreciate your help. I guess I need to do a few more and will improve my skills over time
  16. Hi, I have about 10 finds so far and have been using the paid version of the Android App. I have noticed that the best accuracy I can get on my phone is within 3m. Sometimes this makes it difficult to find the cache. I am wondering if I should buy a cheap GPS and if it is any more accurate than the phone.
