  1. I LOVE THIS!!! We were on holidays a few years ago and I dropped 4 TBs into a Travel Bug Hotel. In less than 24 hours, someone had grabbed them all with a comment about how whoever dropped them hadn't bothered to log them properly. This was my first experience on that end of this practice (I had picked up a TB in the past and waited a week before it was logged before I retrieved it). I was upset that I was given a chance. Thanks for putting this out there, I know I will use it. Guiderchachi
  2. For 2010 I would like to: 1. reach 200 finds (at 155 now) 2. Find at least one of Zircon215s puzzle caches (way difficult) 3. Hide a series of caches in my area 4. Log in a new province/state/country
  3. I had an adventure with my son. Here is a copy of my log: September 1, 2008 by guiderchachi (155 found) What an adventure! As the note from Find the Cache says, when my son and I got to the location and began looking for a way in to the cache, my son heard a noise. When we looked around, we were being surrounded by three kittens. After getting them away from the vans and back into the woods, we went to the SPCA. They gave us a carrier cage (I'm not a cat person so I didn't want them in my van but I wanted to help) and we drove back to the cache site. It didn't take long for them to come running. We scooped them up, put them in the crate, and found the cache. We then delivered them to the SPCA where they will be put up for adoption. These guys were dropped in the woods by someone yesterday or today. They are in good shape and healthy. I know I'm not supposed to advertise but, if you know anyone who wants a kitten, check out www.bayofislandsspca.ca The cache itself was easy to find. Took a keychain, coin, and 3 kittens!, left 2 fake animals, signed log. TFTC Guiderchachi and JWD
  4. I like doing virtual caches. I find them especially interesting when I travel to other provinces/states/countries. They are quick to do and usually show me something interesting about the country. My question is: can I do a pocket query or a search that will only give me the virtuals in an area? Any assistance would be great. Guiderchachi
  5. I buy the camo hockey tape at CT.
  6. Sanna, I went to Germany in April. I also went to Austria, Italy and Switzerland. I researched caches that were close to where I knew I would be and took all of the information with me. Google translator: http://www.google.ca/language_tools?hl=en does a pretty good job of translating a page. When I travel, I try to do virtual caches to log the country. They don't take much time, usually. Use the geocache maps to find caches near your hotel, particular sites (major sites...I did the Olympic park in Munich because we were going there for the evening), and places of interest. My GPSr is so basic that i can't put maps in so I rely on the coords and hints. I do however look at the maps before I go so that the area is familiar. What areas of Germany are you going to? I hope this helps, have fun! Guiderchachi
  7. Do you mean Pathfinders as in a branch of Girl Guides? In Canada girls from the age of 12-15 can be Pathfinders. I am a leader and have used geocaching in my program. Let me know if you are having a TB race. My unit may contribute. Guiderchachi
  8. Thanks for the info. I didn't know I could delete a note after dipping/dropping a bug. I'll go clean up some cache pages now!
  9. Hi, I am a cacher and a teacher in Newfoundland. I live on the West Coast of the province and a TB would be able to travel a lot up here. Send me an email through my GC.com profile if you want me to help. You can send me a TB. Guiderchachi
  10. I'm not overly new to this, been at it 2 years, so I know all about trackables and personal coins. Today I found a Cache Cruiser tag. The bottom half is meant for me to keep. It has a number on it. The tag says "Set free by .....(cacher name)..... Look us up on gc.com and send an email of our Cache Cruisers journey. " This cacher has been a member for 1 week and has found only 1 cache. I don't know what to do with it. Do I attach something to it and send it on it's way like a TB? Can I log it? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Guiderchachi
  11. This my log from a cache I found today in Newfoundland, Canada (GC1FN30). "When my son and I got to the location and began looking for a way in to the cache, my son heard a noise. We then delvered them to the SPCA where they will be put up for adoption. These guys were dropped in the woods by someone yesterday or today. They are in good shape and healthy. Someone has no heart." I am hoping they get adopted soon.
  12. You should attempt the Atlantic Geocaching Association's official caches. If you work your road trip right, you will get all but the Newfoundland and PEI ones. GC13YGE GC13RF3 GC14JBO
  13. Okay. I live in Pasadena, Newfoundland, Canada. We were planning a holiday in New England. Hubby (not a cacher) says pick one or two caches for each state so that you can log finds in different places. "Make them easy...I'm NOT spending my holidays looking for a tupperware container in the woods" So, that's what I did. Logged New Brunswick, had a DNF in Maine, and took a day trip to Vermont. I had three TBs in my bag for trading. Wanted to go to a TB hotel to bring something home. Well, logged one in Vermont that had no TBs in it. Hubby says" leave all these here...then we're done with them." I did. Next day went to log a cache in New Hampshire only to discover that it was another TB hotel. Well, I didn't have any TBs left so I was just going to do a TNLN log. It was FULL. I decided to take one anyway and locked onto coin #46. It's mission was not as specific as the others, so grab it I did. I know I kind of broke the rules but I got the coin moving. I took a pic of me with the coin. Nothing too imaginative, I'm afraid. I'm kind of hoping my story or even the luck of the draw, the fact that I traveled so far to get a coin, or the fact that I brought it back a big distance will count for somethng in this cointest. Now to figure out how to post a pic. Guiderchachi MRJIFFY, THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
  14. Thank you! I figured it was something easy!
  15. Where would I find the numbers that go with this list? I am teaching some junior high kids how to geocache and would like to show them how the sport is growing. I don't know how to find the numbers per province. I am well aware that it changes everyday, I just want to give them an idea. Thanks, Guiderchachi
  16. I love the fact that we in Atlantic Canada appear to be the most nuts...about caching I mean. Now that the snow is finally disappearing, you will see more people out hunting more. Go East Coast! Guiderchachi
  17. This seems totally pointless. But while I am here, I may as well guess. 4759
  18. Thank you. I knew I would get a quick response and some good help. The forums haven't failed me yet! GC
  19. I will apologize in advance if this topic is located elsewhere. I have looked through the threads and can't find what I am looking for. If this is in the wrong spot, an admin can move it. I will be teaching some junior high students the basics of GPSrs and geocaching next month. The School Board has loaned me the class set of Magellan GPS 315. I have no idea how old these things are and I am having a few difficulties figuring them out. I own a Garmin eTrex (the yellow one) and I find it very simple to use. My problem is that I am used to one way of seeing these things and unfortunately, Magellan has another way! I have downloaded and printed the manual. I have a few questions. 1. I have it set to the Land setting (not marine) so that instead of marking a waypoint, I mark a landmark(LMK). Is this the same? If I enter the coords of a cache as a landmark, will it get me there? Do I have to change it to marine so that I can see WPT? I have already made sure the map datum is on the wgs84 setting and the coords are lat/long. 2. I can't figure out how to clear the LMKs that are in there so I can start fresh. That page is escaping me in the handbook. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Guiderchachi
  20. I wanted to post a picture of my very first travel bug, but I can't copy and paste. This page won't let me. So click the link and meet "Stadium Stan". I fly to Phoenix on Friday (mar. 21) and he will be released somewhere in AZ or NM. http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1486349[/url] We will be going to a hockey game in Phoenix but the only cache close to the stadium is a nano. If I find it and log it, can I drop him in and take him out for miles? Am I allowed to do that with a cache that is too small for a TB? I plan to take a pic of him at the game. Any hints on this would help me. Thanks, Guiderchachi
  21. Hey Becks, Can't wait for you to get home! The girls are excited. Have fun travelling. Keep safe and we'll see you when you get here! Guiderchachi (Teresa)
  22. I found that one pretty easily. 9 holes are in Saskatchewan and 9 holes are in North Dakota. Each town has the name North Portal. Guiderchachi
  23. Why not read through the logs and if you see the same cacher name pop up in more than a few, contact the cacher to ask about caching in that area. Guiderchachi
