  1. Here are a couple of pics of a benchmark I found while at Camp Perry Ohio for the National Matches. No PID, not listed in The Database. Photos taken just before the afternoon Rattle Battle began.
  2. I have some trackable ACTIVATED geocoins for sale. Had quite a few geocoins at one time, sold off all the non-activated ones, now its time for the activated ones to go. I prefer to sell them all to one person, but if no takers I might list them individually sometime in the future. First email I receive with a definite “I’ll take them all” gets all the goodies. I’ll send the purchaser an email back with my Paypal address, payment is expected immediately following the email. I’ll list the TB number so interested parties can look them up and see exactly what you’re getting. They are encased in their own white cardboard or original plastic coin holder, and are in great condition. There are some hard-to-get ones in this list. I bought them all new, and I have been the sole owner. The new owner will be sent an adoption request for each coin after you receive them. Price is $150 for the lot plus USPS shipping from 43571. Insurance optional at your request. US addresses only. 3. That is a trailer that is towed behind a motorcycle. There have been a lot of creative "boxes" used for motorcycle trailers. Bflentje's mention of using a hearse to pick up the coffin is a darn good one. Arrange for the hearse, get two Lurch-looking people to arrive with the hearse, and be sure to have the news media present. It would make great media coverage for our "sport". Hmmm, maybe get 6 pall bearers too? Labeling the coffin on the outside as a geocache and with the cache owners phone number might have averted this situation. Maybe. At least the cops didn't blow it up....
  4. Go down to your nearest novelty store and get a pair of those glasses with the big fake nose and bushy eyebrows. Put 'em in your geocaching bag for special occasions, like this cache. I like Juicepig's suggestion too, didn't think of that one. Cut a couple of holes for eyes, and you can get a second job as the Unknown Comic. Remember him? Gong!
  5. Put me down for the contest, looks interesting.
  6. Just be thankful it wasn't on a FedEx charter plane in Lubbock Texas yesterday. That fire looked pretty nasty. Don't get too bent out of shape over UPS or FedEx tracking. FedEx is usually good about giving the correct delivery day. I had a radio shipped last week from Ft Worth Texas to Toledo OH, was only scanned at Ft Worth and Toledo (Northwood). Nothing in between. But it was here at 9:16 AM yesterday, the day they predicted last week. With this winter weather that dumped a lot of stuff across the USA yesterday and today, expect a delay.
  7. Why do they blow them up? Because those bomb squad guys like to do that. They blew it up because it looked suspicious? What do they do when they get a call of a suspicious car? BOOM, Buick all over the place. Seriously, they do like blowing up stuff. They also need to justify the grant money they received from the feds to buy their bomb robot.
  8. It should be rated a 5 since the best way is to use special equipment. See below.
  9. There are some 2-trackers in the UP, north of you. There are some real neat ones in Utah, where you just about need a Jeep-type vehicle to get there. I would supposed they are in almost every state, some more than others. There are attributes for ATV, 4x4, significant hikes, etc. Maybe a search specifying these attributes might help, Of course, the CO would have had to chose them to make the search good, but it might be a start.
  10. If you have a Harbor Freight Tools store nearby, they presently have them on sale at 2 for a buck. Lock-n-locks are much, much better though.
  11. Following this thread, I did a search on my name, not expecting to find anything since it is sort of unusual. Found both first and last, sheesh. First: AE3320 and its AZ mark, AE3324 Both these marks are in Ohio too, I'll have to drive down there this Spring and recover them. They both have Street Views of the marks under the Google Maps option, when did they start that?? Last: LW4435 JV5242 JV5227
  12. This isn't any kind of new "Homeland Security" event. About 20 years or so ago I entered Canada at Niagara Falls and three days later exited at Windsor. Breezed through Canadian Customs, not so on the USA side. They pulled us into a breezeway, got us out of the car and into a building, and they proceded to tear apart our Pathfinder. Took the panels out of the rear cargo compartment, checked the spare tire, air cleaner was taken apart (which was the only thing they put back where it came from). No explanation, very few questions. Guess it was just the un-luck of the draw. Did some caching in Windsor a few weeks ago, thought I was going to go through it again. Lots of questions, roll down all windows, a quick look-see, disgusted looks, more questions. Got the usual inquiries, "where did you go and what did you do? I wasn't about to explain geocaching to him for fear that it would open Pandora's Box, so he got the generic (but very truthful) answer that we went walking in Ojibway Park. Of course, he acted like he didn't know where Ojibway Park was, and I had to tell him where it was and how we got there. Finally got the wave-through, I was relieved.
  13. Looks like you're searching for KV1268. This would be a neat one to find. The description is fairly good, but the railroad station appears to be gone when looking at Google maps. However, the foundation for the station might still exist, and if you can locate that step, you're there. If it was hard to see in 1943, it's going to be REAL hard in 2008. Good luck, tell us what you find !!
  14. This might be pretty close. NA2042, but probably not the exact one you're looking for.
  15. Puzzle caches !! When they get published and I get the email on it, I always check out the cache page. If I have to spend more than about 1-2 minutes on it, it's history. Usually. They ought to have a separate website for puzzle caches, maybe puzzaches.com or something. None on my ignore list are due to who the cacher is, its difficulty, its container, its location, or anything other than whether or not its some kind of cute little puzzle that was slipped into the geocaching community. Apparently not too many people really like puzzle caches. They do not generate anywhere near the amount of cacher traffic like real geocaches do. That's not to allege that most geocachers can't figure out the puzzle, its just that they don't care to. Puzzle caches, bah-humbug !!
  16. I've emailed back with a plea to reconsider the ban on EarthCaches. Hello JimmySystem: That section cited by them applies only to physical items left, and certain destructive acts. It seems they think an earthcache is the same as a regular physical geocache, so maybe what joranda mentioned would be a Good Thing. Here's the text of that particular OAC section they cited to you: "(A) It shall be unlawful for any person to conceal or bury any property or to injure, remove, deface, damage, or destroy any tree, plant, lawn, embankment, decoration, poster, sign, building, fence, or artifacts on any area under agreement with and administered by or under control of the division of wildlife." 17. LSUfan... Try the Louisiana Extreme Benchmarks page for some info. Looks like CQ2866 is the highest noted with a benchmark on it. I'm not sure about AT1299 being the oldest Louisiana station. That date may be 100 years off.
  18. The sort-of recent thread about each state's Center of Population markers made me think about each state's highest point. In Ohio, it's on Campbell Hill near Bellfontaine in Logan County NW of Columbus. There is a benchmark there, but its not in the database. Below is a photo of it. It's at 1548.81 feet, or 1549.09 feet, depending on which data source is used, both are mentioned at the site. Also interesting to note is that there is one benchmark in Ohio listed as being higher, HY1192, in Scioto County south of Chillicothe. That must be in error, that area runs about 700-800 feet, and satellite photos show it to be lower than the surrounding area. Let's see some more "highest points", I know you guys have some! Here's the Ohio Highest Point. More photos of the area at Ohio Highest Point [/img]
  19. Some of those old chiseled squares can be very difficult to photograph well enough to make the square discernible, but are easily seen "in person". Here is an example: MC0880 Now and then you can find some in excellent condition. Here's one down in foxtrot_xray's stomping grounds: EE0063
  20. Recovered Ohio yesterday. More pics at Ohio COP album
  21. Nice looking coin !! Are they going to be trackable and will they have a unique icon?
  22. OK, I guess I'm just not catching on to the concept. I'll see what I can dig up next week. ====== GrizzFlyer For all the marks except those with a 0XX (A Letter) are for numbers only. Thus a designation of B= B 21X,B 21,B 210,B 211 and so on with numbers only. M=1XX,M 1,M 10,M 110. I am using the second set of numbers for the explanation.
  23. Let's see if I got this right. First week log. B = MD1853 BERLEIN 5 pts and M = MD1523 MATSON 5 pts + 50 pts FTR + whatever for pre-1950 ??
  24. Pretty hard to miss this benchmark today. MD1853
  25. Sign me up, I'll see if I can get a point or two.
