  1. I like the idea of the scenic cards. Seeing pics on the cache pages can sometimes sway me in favor of visiting a particular cache.
  2. Is there any chance that we'll be able to filter out the disabled caches?
  3. quote:Is Kate Sessions Park dog friendly? It has a beautiful view and is close to a few caches. It's not a leash free area if that's what you mean, but dogs are allowed. I've seen lots of free range doggies there, but I've heard that the fine is expensive.
  4. I did something like that on our last vacation although we only did 14 caches over an eleven day period. Strangely enough, we still had a good time.
  5. Hey! Some of us happen to like green eggs and ham. I had heard of geocaching and thought it was mildly interesting. I ended up purchasing a GPSr for an upcoming vacation and figured that since I had it, I might as well surf on over to the site and take a closer look.
  6. quote:GWHO, it must have been that get-up you were wearing I don't know about that. If I saw a guy with a sword on his back I might be inclined to put off that particular cache hunt for awhile. On the other hand, it might be a good conversation starter.
  7. quote:"The three little sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'Cover for me'. Number two, 'Oh, good idea boss'. Number three, 'It was like that when I got here'." Homer Simpson right?
  8. I was quite surpised when I introduced myself to a fellow geocacher and she recognized my handle.
  9. Be aware that many of the parking areas at Mission Trails close early. There may be other places to park though. I haven't been in that area much. There are some micro caches within walking distance of the convention center. You might want to try a few of the caches around the bay area. A few others you might be interested in: Maple Canyon Bridges GCC201 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=49665 A nice walk through an urban canyon not far from the airport. Surfs up GCAB03 http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=43779 A good place to catch a sunset.
  10. quote:When you're walking down the trail, every so often turn around and look behind you. The trail looks different coming from the other direction. Doh! I guess that I won't have to walk backwards on my way back to my car next time. All kidding aside, that's a very good tip. I try to remember to look around every so often for landmarks.
  11. dadgum, I haven't seen Doug and Wendy Whiner in ages. I figured that they had died from diverticulitis.
  12. I think that people have varying ideas of what constitues a spoiler. I'm sure we all agree that something like, "Hey it's under this rock" and then posting a picture would be considered a spoiler. Lesser information is a gray area. I'm guessing that many people post details of their cache hunting experience without realizing that others would consider it a spoiler.
  13. I did read through the thread, but the two thoughts were connected and that's why I wrote my post that way. I do have to say that I found your response amusing though.
  14. Maybe I should try that. I've refrained from doing so in the past and figured that I'd wait until a bug had been sitting in a cache for a few months before going to grab it. By the way, that hasn't yet happened, but then I've only been geocaching for about six months.
  15. There's a warning about possible spoilers on every cache page. I'm somewhat surprised that people who are dead set against spoilers read logs before they go to caches.
  16. I had my back go out shortly after I started caching. I was in bed for a week and I was wishing that I could get out caching. Heck, who am I kidding...I would have settled for not being in pain. That's the first time I ever asked a doctor for pain medication and he said no.
  17. Sure, I like them just fine as long as they're placed somewhere nice.
  18. quote:I speak somewhat from experience here; someone posted a note to one of our more interesting caches a week or so ago that gave far more hints than I thought were strictly necessary, so I deleted it. In this case, they were hints on the location rather than on the puzzle, but the way they were posted just rubbed me the wrong way. Had the poster emailed me and suggested that such hints were needed, I might have agreed and put them in the cache description, but it's my cache and I should have the say as to whether cachers know which side of the creek it's on. Did you e-mail the person and ask him/her to edit the post? Did your cache page specifically ask that people not post spoilers in the logs? If not, then I'd assume that the standard "Warning. Spoilers may be included in the descriptions or links" would apply. I don't think it's right to delete logs unless it's a last resort. How would you like it if the cache finder decided that your cache didn't live up to his expectations and deleted it
  19. I was doing a five stage multi-cache yesterday. The initial stages are pill bottles with slips with the next waypoint printed on them. At the third stage I grabbed a slip and re-hid the bottle. Then I entered the coordinates for the next waypoint into my GPS and discovered that it would take me out of the park. Hmmm, that didn't make sense since the cache owner said that the hunt would be within the park. I went back and looked at the pill bottle and saw that someone had scrubbed off the coordinates that were written on the cap. It looks like someone went through the trouble to print out slips with bogus coordinates on them. I just looked at the cache page and saw that no one has it on their watch list. I would have figured that whoever did it would have it on their watch list so that they would see when someone tried to find it. Anyway, I e-mailed the owner and I'll head on back to finish the hunt when he rectifies the situation
  20. He said that he's going in a few weeks. I think that it's a fine idea. I wouldn't mind having a TB take a long journey.
  21. Isn't there something called Geodashing that's like that? I'm not too interested in hurrying (or being competetive for that matter) so I never looked into it. You might want to look into that and see what you can come up with.
  22. As long as we've got a wish list going... How about an option to hide the caches that are currently unavailable? And an option to hide the caches we've already found. And an option for me to get a nice juicy T-bone. Hey, I did say it was a wish list didn't I?
  23. Are you going to keep us updated when the card moves? If I get a chance, I'd like to sign it when it comes down south.
  24. I don't understand why you wouldn't be allowed to bring your GPS. I've heard that some airlines allow the use of the GPS during the flight and some don't, but I haven't heard that they've been banned.
  25. quote:I had a cache stolen within the last two days. It was completely hidden from view in a swampy, tick, snake, chigger and mosquito infested spot. Sounds like a really nice spot. It's too bad that I'm not in the area or I'd have wanted to go check it out. I figure that if you have to go through all that trouble to get there then the view must be worth it.
