  1. I would be interested in taking care of it
  2. I'm guessing that you can't have a real cache at the site because you are on a military installation. When my son attended World Jambo in 2007 he indicated there were some temporary caches for patch trading etc. I figure that is what maybe will be at National Jambo considering the "Get in the Game" program this year plus the "PWD Race to 2010". I believe there's going to be a display of all the cars that make it to the new cache just outside Jambo (it hasn't been published yet). There is a "Get in the Game" Facebook page giving us updates.
  3. I just want to get some information out to the general geocaching population about a big TB race going on. Most of you know that Boy Scouts of America joined up with Groundspeak to get more boys/leaders involved with geocaching as part of BSA's 100 Anniversary celebration. They are calling it "Get in the Game" (of Geocaching) Part of this is a Pinewood Derby Car TB race to the National Jamboree being held at Fort AP Hill in Virginia. They are having a real geocache right outside of the Jamboree site for the collection of the PWD TB's. (I figure its gotta be at least a 5 gallon bucket in size!) Jambo starts the last week of July and they are going to have a special display for the derby cars that make it there. The cars are getting prizes for various categories and even if they don't make there, they will get recognition. So as you cache over these next two months, if you see a PWD car TB, please try to get it closer to VA. And you VA cachers, please try to get as many to the cache right outside Jambo. They have not released the co-ords to this cache yet but we were told it will be soon... If any of you are on Facebook, there is a group with a lot of pictures of these outstanding cars... My son will be at Jambo for the whole week and I'm visiting for one day.
  4. I am a scoutmaster with Central New Jersey Council and I'm in the process of creating this series for our council. I'm thinking of doing twelve (points of the scout law) in the series and a 13th puzzle cache where they retrieve a number from each cache to give them the final co-ords. I am considering a special designed patch as the final reward instead of the one they are using.
  5. Kevin & family, my heart goes out to you for your loss. Baily was such a great dog at the caching thru the snow events I attended. As I type this I am weeping as I've been where you are. I put my St. Bernard down 5 years ago this month. Unfortunately for our giant breed friends, they don't live as long as we'd like them too. So sorry for your loss.
  6. sorry about double post... my computer's really slow and it said I was timed out to reply so I hit it again
  7. Not sure if your event happened already, but I'll put my two cents in... Central Jersey Geocachers had a table at a Monmouth County Outdoor Expo last year that was well received. I had made a fold-out display board with the title "EVER GEOCACHE?" (you know the cardboard displays kids use at the science fair) with different info from gc.com such as different types of caches (traditional, virtual...), pictures of different cache containers from normal to a couple unique plus different sizes, explanations of travel bugs,... I can send you a picture of the board to give you ideas.... On the table for the people to see were about 10 different cach-tainers from ammo cans to bison tubes and lock-n-locks... we had some TB's to show (however we taped their chains to my over-sized ammo can so that they didn't 'walk away') ... we had a couple different GPS units (again secured to the table) plus we had flyers printed up explaining our sport and we also had a couple real caches to be found. We had decided not to make it an official geocache event, just an 'inform the public day'... but after reading the posts here I can see the good in that.
  8. Welcome back! Anything that will get kids out from in front of the TV and video games and outdoors is a good idea. Many Boy Scout troops participate in geocaching. I am a Bot Scout Leader and my troop loves it. I purchased an additional cheap yellow eTrex for the boys in the troop. (Got tired of having to share mine.) I usually tell them only first 5 boys can trade stuff as long as they bring something, but that rule is flexible. One of the boys calls it "hiking with a purpose" - this from a kid who without scouting sits on his computer 70% of his waking hours! Our district last year ran a course to teach the boys how to geocache.
  9. If you are going to consider state parks, realize that alcohol is not allowed. Stokes has a bigger group campsite area... one site can hold 65 and others local can hold 30. You might look into booking a county park as you can usually get a permit for alcohol. Or even look into a township owned park. Or look into renting a private camp. I know that Jefferson Lakes Day Camp in Byram Twsp holds private parties on weekends and there are a lot of local caches in Allamuchy Mt St Pk. I don't know cost.
