  1. Well ground speak, I can tell you that the new app has pretty much ruined our experience. We very rarely cashe now, and miss the time we spent as a family together hunting in the woods for tuperware. We're not afraid of change, the new app simply does not work. The geocache will float across the page and move geographically, as you physically move around. Our premium membership is up in a couple of days, honestly will probably renew for one more year, and if things don't get better we won't be renewing next year. Adjusting to a different app is one thing, paying to be frustrated in the woods is another. You took a good wholesome fun experience and ruined it. It should be noted, we are no longer advocates of Geocaching, and haven't turned any one onto it since the app update.
  2. Aren't there park and grabs in your area? I just glanced at the Flagstaff map, and it looks like there's plenty, but maybe you've found them all? We enjoy hiking, but there's nothing like park and grabs to keep a streak going.
  3. For most challenges, can't you make the find, post a field note, and change it to a "find" when you meet the requirements? That's the way it's done here. You can still log a find for an achieved cache, can't you? In this case, you would be editing it.
  4. At some point, people need to stop blaming the app and start DEMANDING the developers fix the app. How hard is it to add prompts to log trackables? How hard is it to add prompts about writing decent logs, verifying emails, or visiting the website? They prompt me to rate their app, but they can't initiate the scripts for these much needed prompts? We've never used anything but the iphone to cache, and when we borrowed a gps, to try against the phone, it didn't do any better. Stop blaming the app, when it's the lack of code writing.
  5. Hi Plant A Kiss! We love your caches, looking forward to more, hopefully! Thanks everyone, think I have a game plan together now on how this one will be used. Next time, we'll know what to get. Live and learn
  6. Great comparison with the tupperware, thanks! We've found plenty of those around here, and they actually hold up fine, and some are several years old. There have been a couple of metal ones we've found that have been beyond disgusting inside, like watery mush. So guess we'll just make the location good, hopefully protected a bit, and see how it goes. Being our first, it shouldn't be hard to keep up with. I checked with a local surplus shop, and they have plenty for $19, and craigslist has some for as little as $8, so, next time we'll go that route. Thanks for all the opinions, they're appreciated!
  7. Thanks for the advice. I may trade out the plastic with my dad's metal, as he uses them for actual ammo, in a dry house. Really, I had no idea people did that!
  8. Late last night, I caught the ebay bug and purchased a Plano Ammo Can, Model 131250. We are relatively new cachers, and have been planning our first hide for a while now (we're moving soon, thus the procrastination.) I plan on giving it for Christmas, filled with other geo-realted items to my caching/life partner. My question is, in my haste, I didn't think through whether to get a plastic or metal one. Is there a big difference, for the long term health of the cache? We live in Virginia, USA. Temperatures range from 9F - 95F, and humidity is often above 50%, if that information helps. Honestly, I've never paid too much attention to the type of ammo cans we find, and it wasn't until my dad asked me this morning whether it was plastic or metal, that I even considered it. Thank you in advance for any input!
  9. After reading so many threads on forums about the crazy ways Australian nature will try to kill you, I'd take a tick any day of the week! I've only had 2 this year, (in the United States)both hurt for a week or two after, but no long term effects. Just give a good check after you're done, and don't let them spoil your fun.
  10. Have to say, as newbies, we never would have found the site, except that we wanted to edit a log, and stumbled in. We never would have come back, except we wanted to view a bigger map area than the iphone would allow. After that, we have been frequent online visitors, and only use the app in the field. We happen to have followed most of the guidelines by commonsense, and by following the examples left by others. Mostly, it was dumb luck though. The missing link here is a prompt toward website/app integration. How hard is that? Looks like the app interface changed today, maybe they upgraded the intro as well?
  11. Try turning your phone off and then back on again. Had to reboot in the field today, as the same thing happened to ours. Cleared right up.
