  1. So nothing to get excited over? I personally have not been exposed to this concept, but at first sight it seems really intriguing. Would be a great way to reveal hints, etc..
  2. I just learned about this new Microsoft Tag thingy where you can create your own tags that contains a message or takes you to a website, or to exchange phone numbers. You download the tag application for your phone and the program will activate your phone camera. Point it at any tag and it'll automatically decode it and take you to a site or display the intended message. Think of the possibilities for geocaching. Finding a cache with a tag and scanning it to get the next clue Log in to your microsoft passport account and create your own tags - as many as you want. Print the image and stuff it in your cache http://tags.microsoft.com - completely free! Thoughts?
  3. Hey guys, I went through what you guys did as well, I called twice and the reps weren't allowed to sell em or ship em.. Then I sent an email to the general inquiry line stating my concern and the guy said "i happen to have a rubber piece at my desk you can have" and mailed it out to me along with the inner gum tape. It came in its original package just like OEM. My guess is, they're not allowed to freely sell or ship these outs but reps at garmin are sometimes kind enough to bend the rules to satisfy us customers. Give it a try.
  4. Nice Gearth. What's the best software for this devise? I just download the tracks from mapsource. Then I saved it as a GPX file, then i just opened the file in google earth. I don't know if there are better software to do all of these. Would welcome any tips.
  5. I did a 6 mile hike using this GPS to find two caches but didn't find them. Compared to my original Garmin Legend, the Venture HC is really responsive. I installed TOPO 2008 onto it but the arrow doesn't really line up against the streets, I think this is a software issue and not an issue with the device. I exported my tracks onto google earth and it was dead on.
  6. The 3 Day UPS is just the shipping method. Processing is always the same. 7-9 Days means ground shipping, but I think they just try to give you the impression that your order will take longer to process out of the warehouse, but I received my tracking number the very next day.
  7. thanks for the link nice price and free shipping if not in a big hurry , let you know how it works sometime next week. and thanks again I received mine a few days ago, it's literally brand new. It looks like either these were returned items or Garmin decided to put a new case for all their refurbs. I still have the plastic screen protector on it. It works great! andy
  8. Ok, the forum is acting up. =\ Here is the link to the GPS: http://www.adorama.com/GPGETVEHCR.html
  9. I used fingernail polish remover. Enamel reducer, Prepsol, and items like that should work too. The tape you received is TWO sided tape. Once the glue is cleaned off the GPS, remove the paper backing and apply the tape to the GPS. Then carefully remove the outer plastic from the tape around the GPS. It looks like it's 1 piece, but once the plastic is removed, it will leave a very thin piece of 2 sided tape, with 1 side stuck to the GPS. Then slip the rubber "band" around the GPS and align correctly before pressing everything in place. Rich Darn! Just spoke to the folks at Garmin and they won't sell the parts to me saying it has to be sent in.. Original Garmin Legend. For 80 bucks, it's just not worth sending in. For the same price I can get a Venture HC refurb or new for a bit more. I wish GPS' were like cell phones where they sold aftermarket shells.
  10. Did you order the refurbished? What condition did it come in? I've always wondered how beat up these things are after they've been refurbished.
  11. Here's a hot deal on NiMH batteries. Now you can go geocashing for the entire month without worrying! I received mines yesterday and they work great! http://www.bydusa.com/product.asp?0=217&1=285&3=38 http://www.bydusa.com/product.asp?0=217&1=285&3=61
