  1. I am so glad that I verified that this was pre-sales and not reservations. No way I would give any vendor here money before they produce a coin, especially one that has in the past taken money and not delivered coins. "smoothly into the night"...I think that is where Jim has gone not these coins. " If you want the coin, get it next week or forever hold your peace." Glad I only had to hold my peace and not my breath waiting for this coin. Why not return everyone's money and just go smoothly and peacefully, never to be heard from again? You know how to "never to be heard from" now you just need to go!
  2. Ideas are good with rough artwork. I think if the committee likes the idea they will get it mint ready. I am hoping as well because I use Word and Paint to do some of mine.
  3. Anyone else working on designs? Just curious how many out there are putting ideas together. I was working on a few but nothing solid yet.
  4. Wow! I am so glad that I asked the question about pre-sales. No way would I give anyone my money for 4 months. Pre-sales in August, production started in September and here it is December with no word when the coins will ship. Most coins are produced from approved blue prints in 30 days.
  5. Cache Addict does reservations and there are always people that back out, around 3-5% but it leaves enough stock to sell over time and to those who didn't get in on the reservations. The risk is all the vendor, they produce samples and take reservations and hope that the customers pay. It is the best for all including the vendor.
  6. Have to agree with manu on this one. Someone finding a coin in a cache with some numbers and letters on it might not know it is a geocoin. The icon thing, well they will only see that if they log it, and the prefix is not something most people will know who is who or what. In most cases the tracking numbers are alpha numeric so in getting a single coin that starts with two letters, will not tell me anything. These are all reason that Groundspeak requires the "track and geocaching.com" on the coin. I produced 1000 coins one time and the mint didn't include the tracking info. I reproduced all the coins and sold the second batch.
  7. My guess is that very few people have done that, therefore there is very little demand for such a coin.
  8. And that was my original point. 50 States and 1 the District of Columbia or something like that.
  9. And that was my original point. 50 States and 1 the District of Columbia or something like that.
  10. I just completed all 50 States as well as the District of Columbia. When I go to my map it shows I completed 51 States. I think you need to find a better way to display this.
  11. I'll take a stab at this. The ICON is a sunk cost, if yo want to do it then do it. You really can't charge everyone for that. The reason I say that is, if you only sell 50 that is $3 a button. If you sell 150 that is $1 a button. Tough to gauge the market. No one is going to pay over $5.00 you might find a few people to pay $3.00. I did a search on google for custom buttons, and selected the second link. They quote buttons right there in quantities of 10 or more. Full color were only $1.25 so at that plus tracking you are at $2.75. The problem is finding the market. This is the only Groundspeak forum you can advertise in and "most" of the people here like coin and these buttons are far from that. To answer your question personally, I just bought a Trackable name tag from a geocoin vendor. Very nice and solid, with magnet to hold it in place instead of a pin. If I was going to do anything to wear to be trackable that is what it would be. Not customized but everyone knows it is trackable. So my long winded answer ends with less than #2.75 and not likely to buy at all. Sorry and good luck.
  12. I'll start...how about a calendar looking coin. Add the year and let there be 4 color location on this side. Other side might go with the frog image, jumping over a cache statement like "Do wait another 4 years to cache on this date". Thinking out load, shoot holes but be prepared to provide other ideas.
  13. I love the design but as I said to Randy I think it is more of a 366 coin than a 2/29 coin. Here is how you can tell. If you needed Aug 3rd to get all your days to complete all 366, would you buy this coin to celebrate? My answer is yes, when I finish the 366 I want the coin. I think there could be a very nice design for 2/29 developed if we worked together and at the same time Randy could still produce his coin (not trying to step on toes). Please provide your ideas for a coin and I'll have one of my artist help work it up. I think it would be cool to work together in the forums to design the coin. Things to think about, how do you want to show 2/29 (calendar, leap year, etc...), do you want it to be geocaching theme (elements of geocaching on the coin)? Speak up, I am willing to do the leg work!
  14. We had a great turn out here in Denver. I had a room that held 100 and we packed in over 150. I had to extend the time to try and rotate people through. We raised $300 for Geocoinfest 2012 - Colorado on drawings and we sold almost all the coins. As in previous years looks like Denver might be a hard to find coin. The few extra will be listed on eBay by the GCF Committee to raise funds for the event. by the way I heard that this was the single largest event this year in Colorado hosted by an individual.
  15. You might want to expand these caveats a bit. 500kb is extremely limited for a finished design (even just one side). You might also want to include .pdf files since half the designers I know work in vector format (which is better for the mint production in the long run anyway). Just my 2 cents Great feedback, think this was taken from an old post and reused. You going to submit a design?
  16. Haven't seen one of those in a long time. Wonder if someone should make some more butterflies
  17. Just to let everyone know. Denver is turning into a pretty big event, 100+ people and I only purchased 125 coins (shared 20 with a Norther Colorado event). Any of the left over coins will be donated to the Geocoinfest 2012 - Colorado Committee to sell on eBay as fundraiser. No need to contact me I'll point you to the eBay account for GCF2012. 18. All these new features, why not make it a Premium feature only. Seems like a good premium feature.
  19. Love the artwork and would like to get a couple but I don't think it lends itself to picking colors combinations. I use red, orange, yellow and black. Guess I could make the frogs red and orange. If I was to get involved I would like to be able to pick a few colors for the calendar side.
  20. Glad someone suggested adding texture to the recessed areas. Was going to post that he event is turning out to be very large. I might hit 100 attendees, was at 75 last week and have had a lot more 'will attends' this week. The amount of extra coins will be slim and might be donated to help support an upcoming event that will be held in Colorado next year.
  21. The first coins produced and for a number of years were personal coins that were 1.5" and didn't have all the bells and whistles we do today on coins. What would it take (besides a lottery win) to get you to produce a personal coin these days? quantity, price, features, size, tracking or not? I am curious to know and I am working to produce a personal coin that would be trackable as well as some that would not be. Just wondering what others are thinking. Are people willing to trade for personals if they have not met or do you need to know the person. Just been reminiscing about the old days (2-3 years ago). Look forward to the discussion.
  22. Was not really close race for the Mileage portion with first place over 56,000 miles and second over 18,000. In the cacher standings it was a bit closer and I really can't award first place since I won that. I also can't award second since the mileage winner was in second. Therefore, I will be awarding third place. Mileage Winner - Ruud4d Geocacher Winner - UnicDreams Both these geocachers will win 50% off (over a $150 value) Personal Coins by Cache Addict These prize is includes 50 custom trackable coins for the winners. Thanks for all who participated. Stay tuned, I think I'll be starting another race in the next 30 days.
  23. Realize there are only so many reds but when a second color is the same and the plating is the same is when it makes it difficult to see the difference. I have been using the same colors and plating for 3 years now and I guess it just doesn't feel and unique and it has in the past.
