  1. I voted I liked the idea (and as of yesterday, have traded for it icon_wink.gif

As I was comparing the items to the first aid kit I was carring in my day pack, it measured up quite nicely and takes up much less room and I can always replenish it as the items get used.

One addition I did make to the kit was a first aid guide (there's an on-line version link below)

No, it's not all incompassing, and maybe you considered and decided against it, just thought I'd share... and thanks!

  2. quote:
I could generate lists of waypoints for people driving along a given route.

I would love something that would do that, we're driving to FLA the end of February and I've been trying to figure out how I'm going to accomplish that exact task! (I have a PPC, Windows CE, not a Palm thought...)

Don't give up! Sounds like there's a lot more willing to participate than those who won't/can't. I on the other hand can only watch in awe at what others can do with this stuff!

  3. I got it now! It's called creating a custom channel...

O.K., how about getting the HTML index file to replace the GC with a meaningful code? I see the options for Waypoints & Descriptions...

    Thanks again.

  5. I'm using AvantGo (and I'll admit I know next to nothing about it) I've been up and down their website and can't find whatever it is I need to do to get my spun file on my ppc... I also see the link from Spinner for the Handheld Device Synchronization Instructions, but I don't know what to do with it icon_frown.gif please help...

  6. Thanks. I (thought) icon_rolleyes.gif I downloaded the updated program for EasyGPS (it's in a blackhole in my computer somewhere...) after I went back to look I saw I was still using the prior version icon_redface.gif O.K., so in the mean time I can use EasyGPS to download the GPX files (hope it doesn't croak going back and forth between the two), now I just need to figure out how to get those symbols on my GPS (camera, deer, stadium...)

  7. No need to wait for spring! We just started a couple of months ago ourselves and most of our finds have been under snow (it just adds another degree of difficulty at times icon_wink.gif... Acutally it's kinda nice without the bugs, there's less crowds and as long as you dress warm... Have fun!

  8. "A fix will be available by Friday on the beta.asp page of the product webpage."

Is there a fix for GPX/GPS Exchange files too? I still get the error "No data was received from the GPS! (Error #22)" using either EasyGPS or ExpertGPS.

  9. TopoGrafix,

When I said, "I see exactly what your talking about." I was referring to the difference between the LOC and GPX file when viewed in notepad... Sorry for the confustion. However I am still receiving the 'no data was received from the GPS! Error #22' message when I attempt to download the GPX file to my GPS, but the LOC for the same query works fine... and I have downloaded the GPX files in the past, but can not now... (I'm going to look for an older GPX file and see if I can compare the two for differences). I'd be happy to send the current LOC & GPX file if you're interested.

    Thank you,

    Linda

  10. Perfect! I see exactly what your talking about. I saw all this excitement about the GPX and wanted to jump on the bandwagon too! Looks like between the pocket querys and the LOC files I have everything I need (for now icon_wink.gif. Thank you again.

  11. Thanks for your time Alex, now I'm going to try your patiences...

"The problem is more than likely a conflict between the waypoint data in the GPX file and the application you are using to load it to your GPS."

I'm using ExpertGPS and have also tried the beta version as well. I can receive info from my GPS to my computer and also LOC from my computer to my GPS (and have in the past received GPX from my computer to my GPS, but now I'm receiving the error message).

"To sum geocaching.com's GPX up in a nut-shell, it's a LOC file with loads more data in it that has basically nothing to do with knowing that GCFFFF is at 91 32.123W 31 30.123N. What it does have is information like the cache page, last 5 logs, the cache type, and a slew of other information that is handy for folks working on developing third party applications for geocaching."

So the GPX file would be useful for someone creating a program similar to the Pocket Query?

"If you're interested in what apps currently exploit the extra data, I've started a thread here that will hopefully one day fill up with apps that will have us all praising the glories of GPX."

If ExpertGPS is one of the programs using the GPX, where is this extra data, (cache page, last 5 logs, type...) it doesn't look much different than the LOC file to me...

    Thanks again,

    Linda

  12. I tried GPX and it was working o.k., but now when I try to upload I'm getting the message, 'no data was received from the GPS! Error #22'. I uploaded the same query in LOC and it worked fine...

    Anyone else having this problem?

I'm using the lastest versions of ExpertGPS (and even tried the beta version) and Magellan 3.15. I also noticed the difference in file sizes; (my query is for the 100 closest caches); attachments in email LOC=20.8kb, GPX=407kb.

    Thank you

  13. I have a similar setup (Magellan 315 and Compaq PC). If you search under the topic: "Looking for topo software for pocket PC", there's some discussion about ExpertGPS coming out with a PC version in early 2003 (other software too)(sorry, I'm not knowledgable enough to link you directly icon_wink.gif I've been using the trial version of ExpertGPS and like it a lot to communicate with my GPS. I've also been using the MobiPocket to download to my handheld although I don't have the two (GPS and Handheld communicating with each other yet...) I tried Mapquest using AvantGo (from the link above) for my handheld and was disappointed (but I don't have an internet connection on my handheld either). So for the time being I have my waypoints on the GPS, my cache descriptions on the handheld and I'm still printing the topos icon_frown.gif

We're planning a trip to Florida this spring so I'm hoping to have the new software and to have it figured out by then icon_cool.gif

  14. You know, it may have been there all the time icon_redface.gif

I was expecting to see the 'Plot Screen' scale change from mi to ft... But after resetting as you've suggested, I see the NAV 2 Screen has a Distance Scale as well (which I had previously turned off icon_eek.gif ) Thanks again for your help, now all I need is a little daylight... icon_wink.gif

  15. My Mag 315 changes to feet when you get closer that .1 miles.

After reading previous posts I updated my 315 to v3.15, however after using it today, my range did not change from mi to ft icon_frown.gif Is there somthing else I need to change somewhere in the setup? Thanks.

  16. I (attempted?) to register for a charter membership earlier this week thru PayPal and my credit card has been charged, but I haven't received any acknowledgement (or subscription ID) from either Groundspeak or PayPal... How can I follow up to verify that my request has been received? (I'm concerned the e-mail is in a black hole somewhere as I was also attempting to change e-mail addresses around the same time...)

    Thanks for your help.

  17. I love my digital camera! I have an Olympus 2040 I bought it almost two years ago. I originally purchased two additional 56 mg smart media cards, and have never filled them both to compacity (all depends on the quality desired) using a 'high quality' as opposed to 'super high quality' I can take 128 pictures on one 56 mg card. I also purchased a charger and 8 rechargable batteries so I always have a fresh set (keep in mind, rechargable batteries will not hold a charge very long when stored for a period of time). Check out http://www.consumerworld.org/ for consumer reviews. I found prices better over the internet than in the stores. The 2040 is fully automatic or can be totally manual or set anywhere in-between. It's a 2.1 megapixel w/5x digital zoom (I also like the hand grip). I don't 'print' many photos but have tons of shots on CDs. Did I say I love my digital camera?

    Happy shopping. icon_cool.gif
