  1. Bethie_Biker and I are a bit disabled, and also still mainly use our GPSR to cache, so perhaps we plan a bit better - we use the Logs for a cache to try and see if there are DNF's, what the Terrain and Difficulty are (if stages are missing from a multi), we use Google Satellite Map view to see if there are physical boundaries that will be impassable for us. We also started doing State County Challenges a couple of years ago so that makes us more aware of things, too - where the cache IS specifically. But if we don't try for a cache, we don't log a DNF - we didn't try. And if we didn't find the cache, we don;t expect a reward: We Didn't Find The Cache. For whatever reason - doesn't matter. I don't log miles against my trackables for DNF's, either (No Find - No Reward). We also carry Repair Items to do simple repairs to a cache - logs, tape, paper towels, etc.. Why be unable to log due to a wet/full log? Carry some to put in.Leave the cache better than you found it. Souvenirs for DNF's? If so - WHY PLACE HIDES??? Just DNF away until your fingers are too tired- or, better yet, create a DNF Bot to do the work. Tell HQ to charge Membership by the DNF LOL! We could easily get Events to Tera Attendance Levels by allowing attendance by DNF!! You can't make people not cheat. All you can do is be a decent person and enjoy the rewards of that - and Geocaching. The thrill of the hunt - the find - socializing with other cachers - placing a good hide. All First Person, Right Now - not digital or DNF ?.
  2. Oh how I hate to be the "wee, sma' voice" o' caution...but has no one thought that by relegating Browse to a secondary source point, the future is bright for costed 'upgrades' in function - much as occurred with Project GC? (I STILL can't get all of my FTF's to show up since that great day.) On another score - when will the New API be set in stone? I'm still having infrequent belly-flops from the site, especially with the Project GC interface (which I need for masny things, now) ?

Like many another Geocacher (or even overgrown man-child ?) I was ready to open my Happy Easter Mission. I knew it was from the Nederlands, I knew it was from a Geocacher - but whom?? I found wonderful things from The Netherlands! Egg preparing dyes and transfers, an Easter Bunny decoration which someone spent much time and care creating (!) - and a lovely Dutch 2018 Geocoin!! But - sadly, I still don't know whom to thank, personally. So, whomever the Geocacher (or cachers) are at 8XX1 nr. 17 - thank you for making my Easter so much more enjoyable!! ? And thank you, Claire and Wyatt Earp - Long may your Missions run! Happy Easter to all - and to all, a good find! JimRKY (can't wait for Halloween!!)

  9. Bethie_Biker wants to send her thanks to Twentse Mug for the fine package which we received yesterday. She has already posted directly to Twentse Mug. i want to apologize for holding the works up - the package arrived yesterday, but Beth was busy with me due to a stomach bug. Sp - 3 missions completed, 3 missions received. (Told you not to worry, Claire! ?).
  10. I had this occur when I first got the new map. Now, I may have the new map, I may have the intermediate map (which has satellite but not Google Map), or I may have the old map. I think the stalling is likely something to do with either Java or Flash - whichever is being used. Or I could be wildly wrong ? Happy New Year!
  11. Not to worry! Especially at this season of the year the your work on these Missions is exemplary (!) Something will come when it comes, and if not, then not - Beth seems to remember something about '...giving, not getting...' from her parents. Me too. ? To be totally honest, it's much, MUCH more of a joy to hear that the small things we sent have had good reception and brought some fun to others. We're among the 'old folks' of our neighborhood - but we're the ones who deliver home-made cookies and candy to the houses with kids, and our friends. Never, ever thought I'd be doing 10's of dozens of cookies to give away. This is even better than that LOL! (or is that Ho-Ho-Ho ! ??) - - and here I am editing because I'm on medication for discs degenerating above and below an L4/L5 - I can understand your physical situation. Your devotion to this tasks speaks volumes about you as a person. Thank you, once again!
  12. Congratulations to you all on getting this cache up. I ran across this while 'surfing' the Forums on Christmas Eve after finalizing posting on Laval K-9's Joyeux Noel Missions. Don't be disheartened because there are people who will not 'do the work' and instead cheat. Cheaters will always be with us. There are always 2 ways to play a game; 1) By the rules and 2) Not by the rules. They are the ones who lose. However, that they DO cheat does nothing to diminish your accomplishment. Isn't the joy in fielding a cache actually IN the fielding of the cache? And, of course, in the comments of those who find it. So, don't be discouraged. Cache on, cache on with hope in your heart - and you'll never cache alone! er...OK. And I have to admit, anytime I see Portugese during the holiday season I am instantly reminded of Love, Actually. '...I heard Signal exclaim 'e're he drove out of sight, "Happy Caching to all! Go and find one, tonight!" '
  13. Jimrky: Bethie (bethie_biker) has not received a gift.
  14. Many thanks to Laval K-9, Claire and Claude for their generosity, not only in sending such a wonderful packet of medallions and cheer, but for all the hard work that has gone into these Missions Joyeux Noel of 2018. Opening these packages last night (as is our Tradition at Smiling Cat Cottage) we were visited by the Spirit of Signal - bringing GeoCaching Joy to all good little...er, no...bringing that light of shared caring and hope across all boundaries that is the true gift of the Holiday Season To you, Claire, and to all that have participated, thank you, a Happy Holiday Season, and a Most Joyous and Prosperous New Year to you all

  16. Bringing this up to the front to be compliant with Laval K-9. When I do my next missions, I'm going to put my Geocaching name on the outside of the package - I received one today...it's not ticking so I think I'm OK - but since I'm not opening until Christmas I don't know if its's mine or Bethie_Bikers ?
  17. I was able to ship 5 oz. in the US for $2.79 (with tracking!) through my PayPal. I'll post the link that allows you to buy postage if you have a PayPal account without it being a 'sale' somewhere. Be advised that it is obsolescent - - DO NOT put an Email Address in for the person being shipped to - leave that blank, and it works fine for me! Also !! Be Sure To Select For 1st Class Shipping if at all possible. I use Big Envelope and Indeterminate package as I ship in a plastic envelope. https://www.paypal.com/signin/?returnUri=https%3a//www.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/webscr&state=%3fcmd%3d_ship-now Hope that's of assistance ?
  18. I've been waiting for this since we corresponded in October! I am so pumped to do these Missions 3 - and to start a new non-statistic: First To Reserve A Mission (to go with my now 6 First To Will Attend!) Please add my thanks to all the rest! 19. I have to agree that even the best containers can take on water in the rain, but also they can just be misused: one that My Dear Bethie_Biker has out regularly gets reported as having taken on water. When we check it, someone has always closed the Aircraft cable that retains it to the tree in the gasket of the 30mm can. Akin to the logs I'm always re-winding or re-folding so that they fit in a container when I'm caching ? I have the same issue on a 50caliber can that i have with a chain retainer. We maintain them regularly, and have inner containers for the logs. Good containers are a start - good logs even better. Rite-in-the-Rain isn't mold-proof or destruction proof, but it makes for a much better experience over time, we find. And they're out there for cheap from several outlets, too, if you don't want to make your own. A final comment on old containers; we're just back from adding another 15 Eastern counties to our Kentucky County Challenge (120 of them here in the state) and the best hide I found was just so simple: an Altoids tin in a GR cache. It was filled with 8 various RITR log sheets, and was a bit hard to open for some rust and having been bent - but all was dry and good inside even so. The cache was placed in 2006. I carefully un-bent the container so it worked better and gave a thought of thanks to the CO. Good planning, good upgrades over time, good maintenance and good reporting are all important to the life of a cache. So, enough from this whipper-snapper of a cacher ?
  20. Same issue. New version (6.0.0+) of Express did finally solve the issue. However, had to uninstall the previous version of Garmin Express, restart, then re-install the new version - after first install of Express 6+ the Express software wouldn't start even after restarting the machine. I think my song, with regards to Garmin, is "Some day my code will come..." eTrex 20

Do a forum search for "communicator plugin" and you'll get 100's of similar threads. Short answer, communicator is out, download the gpx file to GPS or download it to computer and copy to x/Garmin/GPX I realize this is a general situation, but in the past I have had to reinstall the plug-in several different times. Also (knock wood!) we're still able to download to our eTrex 20 - while I learn how to run a Smartphone ROFL! (60 year old with fatfinger syndrome!) We run Win10 64 Pro - it might be that our OS is letting us get away with a bit older plug-in through a 'compatibility' run...not sure, but happy!
