  1. ... and now a P.S.A. ... ... according to USPS, shipping deadlines for the Contiguous US are Dec 17th for 1st Class, and December 18th for Priority. The boat sailed for out-of-country some time ago, country dependent ... ♪♪ We're doing our Christmas shopping at Robert Hall this year ... ♪♪
  2. And I thought I had this posted last Friday, but manifold are the vagaries of computing: (bleep) - to avoid any possible deity references allowing Admin to scotch the post 😎 - (bleep) knows that I did not use 'No Rules' in the mode of Anarchy. However, as 'rules and exceptions' do not require, but Do s t r o n g l y imply a single source of criteria and interpretation, as well as 'enforcement', I strongly disagree. And that this is basic to any discussion of guidelines and their implementation on a continually one-off basis I hold this to be important. Happy Holidays! 😁

  4. You are more than welcome! We're pleased that you enjoyed the small gifts - Happy Holidays! 😁👍
  5. [Emphasis in the quote is mine - J.D.R>] Small, but I feel important, point: There Are NO 'Rules'. We have Guidelines under the caveat by HQ that I call 'The Great Disclaimer': No action taken regarding one geocache has any bearing on any other geocache' and upheld through the perceptions of individual Reviewers backed by decisions of HQ WITHOUT INTERACTIVE APPEAL AVAILABLE TO THE GEOCACHER. That's the way it is and the situation under which, daily, I (and we all) make the decision TO GEOCACHE. Not a complaint, a statement of fact. That said I love this Sport and give back to it in all ways possible giving time from my life, my fortune, and my Sacred Honor. 😁
  6. Tracking packages ... the longest traveling one says it should be out today! The one just going to the next state over says ... Arriving Late - "Your package will arrive later than expected but is still on its way. It is currently in transit to the next facility." Huh, been the same since 11/29. Thank you, Mr. de Joy! May I please have another? Putting him on the list! 😎
  7. Ah! But if one's smart phone had the gps foxed by inputting those coordinates, the stage is no longer locked to play. We found this out, in cognate, by having my old phone have the SIM card knocked askew while doing AL's. However, by logging my wife out after she had done an AL, and logging me in on her AL app on her phone, I was able to answer the questions remaining and get credit for the AL.
  8. I'm confused - how can an account not be able to receive a message through the Geocaching website? Unless a cache SPECIFICALLY calls out email, I ONLY send info through the Geocaching website Message page. If it calls for email, I do BOTH - and usually get a response through the Geocaching website Message page, only. If the CO is going to respond, they'll either get on the website to check, get a Notification, - and if they're not going to bother, they're not going to bother.
  9. Actually, the Health Cycle depends on DNF's, Needs Maintenance and Needs Archived by an arcane mathematic formula never fully disclosed by HQ. And, sorry to disagree, but the intervention of the Reviewer is a manual, not automatic, step - At Their Discretion. As for "fun" value, not trying to weasel out, but that's a HUGELY subjective thing. Instance: I deplore Power Trails. In my view, who wants to stop, every 10th of a mile, in order to find and sign a medicine vial - at Best: some just put their own exchange/drops in place and go along their way. Where's the fun in that? But I have listened to 'cachers wax rhapsodic about the beauty and fun of the Rythm, working as a team. As a former percussionist, again: I don't "get it". Hence, I'll decline to judge someone else's "fun". At the end of the day, until HQ creates some FORMAL program to provide for the adoption of caches with lapsed owners - and YES, I know, they mention 'Legalities' in a mysterious fashion when that discussion comes up. Un-surprising: question - what was Bryan Roth doing for work when Groundspeak was created? So - yes, if it functions, it functions - let it be. If it FAILS to function and is reported for the cache being missing or the cache needing Maintenace or Archiving (and just because the owner hasn't logged in that doesn't mean the cache is not working!!!) then the Health Cycle kicks in - rightly. HOWEVER - do you think HQ (the only ones who CAN) will E V E R do anything about mis-reports or the whole situation under discussion? NO (bleep)ing Way! They want their $30 a year and will do whatever is conducive to receiving it, with minimum effort. Nothing wrong with that - but there it is: they, ARE NOT angels, they're out for the buck as Groundspeak Is A Corporation and the complex of Geocaching.com and Groundspeak represent a For Profit Corporate complex. For myself, as a 'cacher, I have observed the Animal Farm reaction on caches with the same Reviewer. Some caches are IMMEDIATELY disposed of after a single report, and some hang on FOR YEARS after NUMEROUS DNF's, etc. So, all caches are equal, but some caches are More equal than others. Not for any reason of age, quality - or anything else that I can see about the caches. Go figure!
  10. My own experience on First Class overseas: when it was still possible [we now have NO official USPS service to Australia - blocked by them according to USPS] I mailed, First Class, an envelope to OZ. Took over THREE MONTHS for it to be received. That was a year - to less than 2 - ago. Now 2 years ago sent a package to Portugal at this time of year via Priority International - cost me $45 for about 8 ounces. Took 6 weeks. If we got someone overseas this year I was going to bite the bullet and go Priority Mail Express or (gulp) Global Express Guaranteed (which, oddly, has NO guarantees). We got lucky - 2 small, fat packages to US destinations left via Priority Mail yesterday. Best of luck, and Wings(!), to your little package. May its' journey be of short duration.
  11. I can imagine - but since most of the 'people' engaging in that activity would never be anything more than a 'passle of pixels' on a screen (lacking male appendages but with bravery behind an ASCII appliance) I find it excruciatingly easy to IGNORE them. Or, better still (yes, I am a poor example of a human being) engage in Passle-of-Pixels-Baiting. Triggering, anyone? I do wonder: was the Health Cycle of a cache discussed? Was it made known that Reviewers get notice from HQ when a cache is logged as Needs Maintenance and the Cycle takes care of Archiving 'needy' caches? (Almost can't believe I said that with the number of [sh#&*$] caches hanging on for years, locally! But the system exists.) I ask as you were there, Walter Cronkite...er TyroneShoelaces. From the little shown I'd wonder if Archive messages were deserved. If the cache functions, it functions. And if no maintenance was needed, the cache functioned. We found our first Earth cache - that was NOT a find - a few weeks ago: the needed Historical Marker had gone aglimmer in the week between our visit and the last. Was able to log with minor research as the basis for the cache and marker was still there - the Earth part hadn't gone away. But within 3 days of our message to the CO and log with the facts showing the situation (OK, aaaaand posting it on FB) an Earth cache Reviewer had investigated and put it on Temporary Archive. If the CO doesn't show up, the cache will go away. Seems, to me, that the System is working - without my sending a Needs Archive 😎👍 (OMG! I was actually nice, and respectful, to the original poster of this thread throughout that - could it be ... no. I am NOT 'growing up'! I re-FUSE! 🤣)
  12. Hear, hear Tyrone! I like to put it a bit simpler: People are people wherever they go and whatever to do. Geocaching® doesn't improve them, except as hunters of caches. As you noted, as long as the activity doesn't harm anyone else - who cares? And, quite honestly, if THIS is what the poster was talking about ... well, I'm just missing "demonizing" by a mile. Some people like to whine online, though; that's for sure although attacks do happen. For me it's just nice to know that Virtuals CAN be adopted. I never liked the "Clear the Gameboard" craze doing away with old caches. Crappy ones, fine. 😎
  13. I will say "probably" this is similar to why Cacher Names can't be given to other people even if the original owner of the name (note: OWNER) hasn't been on the site for years. In an interview on a podcast, Bryan Roth ventured that there are some legal 'grey areas' as to who has ownership of the intellectual property of a Cacher Name. I'd venture that the same 'grey areas' may well pertain to ownership of the virtual cache as it appears on the website. And YES, Geocaching/Groundspeak created the cache code number and the cache only lives on their servers - Bryan indicated there's still questions. I'd say for more info, message Bryan Roth 😁

  18. You've just quoted GLONASS (GNSS) specification and averaging (augmentation) - you do realize this, right? 😎 I don't think we're arguing anything different, but I do think I have it right as I stated it.😁
  19. Claire - You and your 4-legged friends deserve some spoiling for all that YOU do! You're more than welcome, my friend 😎
  20. Yes GLONASS and GALILEO can do better, but GPS tops out at about +/- 10 ft per all sources that I can access. Averaging attempts to give better results but is an overlay not an access of greater accuracy. If you have a source stating that GPS systemic accuracy is better than +/- 10 ft I'd appreciate a citation so that I can access it, thanks 😁
  21. GPS, GLONASS and GALILEO are all different systems commonly lumped under "GPS". GPS, the US Civilian system, has a positional accuracy of +/- 10 feet, inherent. If Leica can overcome this, systemic, inaccuracy everyone should have one 😎
  22. Late to the discussion but here 😎 I wouldn't try to ship your empties to anyone - even in your home country - as has been said, freight is expensive. Regarding the containers, themselves - It Strictly Depends On The Container. I have medicine vials that HAVE round, self-sealing ridges under the caps, and I have those which do not. Ditto for Child-proof/non in one lid. If it has a self-sealing ridge, it's probably waterproof - if not NO WAY. And a closed, properly sized ziplock (of good mil thickness) - with the seal NOT folded, and so compromised - will keep ANY log dry. Better still, always use Rite-in-the-Rain paper or logs made from it - that way even if wet they can be pressed dry enough on a pants leg to sign 😎
  23. Let me preface this with saying that Bethie_Biker (for the First Time Ever) will post her own reply: we were both just so b l o w n a w a y with the generosity of our Mission Partners. Halloween (yesterday) was hectic - we actually had Trick-or-Treaters for the first time in years...well, we were home for the first time in years and out of Covid 😁 - and we had to square away a slew of optional donations for the vets from GC8MAMA on Saturday - got a carload (literally). Many, m a n y thanks to my Mission Partner, kini_ont for a lovely package so Chock Full of coins and Path Tags (!!) I was one smiling Geocacher last night (after the kids stopped coming) I'm going to let the pictures speak for themselves - such beautiful coins! Such great Path Tags! Were I to compare them I'd be here saying, "Oh! My GeoCoins - Oh! My PathTags!" [yes, I'd become 'The Geocacher of Venice'...and Shakespeare never had it so bad 😁]
