  1. I came to a personal revelation today while making the umteenth trip for a multi-cache: If I buy a used car in the future, I'll check to make sure the former owner wasn't a geocacher! I'm putting way too many miles on my vehicle. What kind of mileage are you racking up? "Could be worse...could be raining"
  2. thought I could do the URL correctly, but apparantly not. Just do the Hide & Seek Cache with the above cache name. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  3. Well, yeah, it's math....but it's math with a purpose. Check out Think GPS "Could be worse...could be raining"
  4. Though you posted in the West / Southwest forum, you do not state your approximate location. If you are in the Sacramento area, I could probably think of a few multi/puzzle caches. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  5. And all this time I thought it meant: Totally Not Living Normal, Seeking Loot! "Could be worse...could be raining"
  6. I honestly did look for it, so I'm hoping that someone will Markwell me, but I recently saw a rating system that someone has developed that is much more complete than saying that it is wheelchair accessable (inclines, types of surfaces, etc....for all I know, it was you!) I hope you get a look at it and see if it suits your purposes. Sorry I can't be more helpfull. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  7. I'm just bumping this because my birthday is coming up, and your suggestions could make for a nice birthday present or two! (Want to make sure my husband sees it!) "Could be worse...could be raining"
  8. I have a 128 Mg card in my Magellan Meridian and as I will be traveling a lot in the future, I thought I would just download a lot of map off Mapsend Topo. Now I know why it will be worth my while to get the separate card reader/writer. I had about 58 Mgs of map I wanted to download, But the only reason I can't do it is that with the serial cable, this much data takes over 12 hours to load! My batteries wear out before I can get the data loaded! So I only use the reader/writer once or twice, at least I can get my 'Corvette' out of first gear! "Could be worse...could be raining"
  9. I just tore off another e-mail saying pretty much what you suggest. Thanks for offering to help. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  10. Can anyone in the Seattle area rescue my kidnapped Travel Bug? 'Kid At Heart' TB# TB6462 has been in the hands of Torque since Feb. 25th. This individual has only logged a few caches so far, and was active on the site 'till last month. (I know, I keep checking) I have sent this person several e-mails. would anyone in the Seattle area be willing to try and get this Travel Bug back into circulation? I don't want to have to send this bug to the Travel Bug graveyard. "Could be worse...could be raining"

My poor house is a shambles... but it's a happy household. --Marky I am going to post a pic of my backyard as soon as I take one. I'm barely keeping up appearances in the front. Sngans The greatest labor saving invention of today is tomorrow.... If you decide to do a neglected backyard contest, I have some great pictures to submit! "Could be worse...could be raining"
  12. If you don't have mapping software, a free site is Lost Outdoors. You can download multiple waypoints (labeled), as long as they are not too far apart. Play with it and see what you think. I did this for a blitz in a nearby town, and was able to get most everything on one map. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  13. I AM the Mom...I'm getting the auto mounting bracket and power cable for my Meridian. (The Meridian was my Anniversary gift....My PDA was my Valentine's Day gift, etc.) Have I got a great family, or what? "Could be worse...could be raining"
  14. I will take it for granted that anyone reading this forum topic will have geocaching.com as their favorite website, but what is your second most favorite site? Mine is the Internet Movie Database I am curious to see what this discriminating population finds of worth on the World Wide Web. "Could be worse...could be raining"

    Tics!

Tick related definition: Politics : From the root words 'Poly', meaning many, and 'Ticks', meaning blood-sucking insects. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  16. It has not been mentioned in this thread, but adding a line or two about the cache condition can make the log entry not so short, and provide the cache owner, and subsequent seekers, with valuable information as well. Statements like, 'cache very full, think small to trade', or, 'Could use a new ziplock bag for the log book' give worthwile information about the cache. Don't get me wrong, when I particularily like a cache, or had an experience I would like to share about the find, I put that in my log as well. But even a cache you are not thrilled with may benefit from something you might have to say. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  17. The cache monsters are loose! Check out the day that jimswim, vdbalamo and bthomas had in the sactown area on the 24th. 74 in one day!! "Could be worse...could be raining"
  18. Weather, of course, will be a factor in cache container survival. Those of us blessed (at least I think so) with no snow or freezing weather will have better luck with their containers. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  19. I dare anybody out there to claim they have heard of any of the below (all of which are in my CD case in the vehicle): Battlefield Band Old Blind Dogs Men of Worth Silly Wizard Gerry O'Beirne Seamus Kennedy Andy M. Stewart Ed Miller Black Dyke Band Laura Love Saffire The Edlos Austin Lounge Lizards Gosh, I'm so trendy!! "Could be worse...could be raining"
  20. quote:Originally posted by StarshipTrooper:Another thought occurred to me... As oposed to trail markers and kiosks - and the trail themselves, for that matter -- If you hide a cache well (and who here doesn't know how to do that?), the LNTs would never know it was there, and they would have nothing to complain about. What really bugs them is that they see evidence (the cache page) that it is there. I bet you dollars to doughnuts that some of those same folks have cached items there themselves, and kept it to themselves - and no one EVER complained about any of those specific caches. Kinda make you go "hmmmmm", doesn't it? In addition to the above, make these caches 'Members Only'; that way the Nature-Nazi can't go on this site and find the coordinates...since I assume that they also have GPSr's? * At least they would have to contribute to the geocaching community (via their $35.00) before they could perform their 'cache sterilization' "Could be worse...could be raining"
  21. I have not always been the 'outside type', but as a teenager traveling in Europe, I found that I could find my way around any city you plunked me down into with map and no problem at all. This might not equate with winding your way in the woods, but Rome and Paris were not remotely planned on the grid system! "Could be worse...could be raining"
  22. I have been using my PDA with GPX Spinner and Plucker. It can be customized to your preference (right now my 'nearby caches' are sitting above my 'recent logs' on my pages...I intend to change them around). I also like to keep cache notes on the notepad. Especially usefull if you are doing many caches in a day. You don't have to remember your trade-in / Trade-outs, and then just download and 'cut and paste' to the logs when you get home. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  23. Around here, if a cache has been out there for a while in a wooded area, chances are there's PO encroaching on it. Just note it in your log, or perhaps do a little 'weed abatement' while you are out there. I have heard of some folks that keep pruning shears in their packs for just this purpose. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  24. I also own a cemetery cache and from the name of the cache to the pictures posted on the page, it is quite obvious that it is in a cemetery. The only post that has shown even slight surprize or reservation was from an out of towner that probably just loaded a bunch of waypoints on their GPSr for the areas in which they would be traveling. I have made it pretty obvious on the cache page because I know some people don't like them. And if you don't like 'em, don't do 'em. "Could be worse...could be raining"
  25. As I understand it, the 'River City Geocaching Society' was formed after a challenge from one of our fellow cachers to the south, claiming that none of us here ever seemed to go caching south of Elk Grove. A group of local cachers got together, blitzed a bunch of caches to the south and logged in as the River City Geocaching Society. Once those logs got posted, a forum thread was created, and a 'club' was formed. The name of the group was later changed to 'River City Geocaching and Dining Society' since we meet in pizza parlors and all like to eat. You can still check out the thread in the 'West and Southwest' groups section of the forums or visit www.rcgds.net As to why we got organized...it's fun to exchange ideas, let other locals know about new caches planned and planted and getting together!
