  1. We are talking about CITY trees. There won't be any loggers climbing any of these trees. I was just wanting to attach magnets or things that look like bark, something like that. I just do not want to be the bad dog nailing into trees upsetting everybody.
  2. What I am talking about is a big tree. Something that you may not be able to put your arms around. I would to put a branch, nub or pine cone lower, so that someone shorter could find it. Iam not talking about a 2' branch. Really small.
  3. A real GeoCacher would have walked up the log not slide down and would have had on shorts.
  4. I wanted to know how others felt about posting corrds using metal banding, plastic, or wood items with corrds on them? Or just nailing in to a tree to hold a magnet in place that would look like bark or a branch. What I am tring to say, is it cool to drive a nail into a tree.
  5. I have a window mount for my Garmin GPS Map76 antana. I have a Dodge 99 p/u 1500 and I use the hole in dash where a phone could be placed. I put a block of wood in there and screwed the bracket to it. Works great.
  6. Have you heard of ICQ? It lets you chat with anyone anytime I am pretty sure. Try it, you'll like it.
  7. Hi there, I just came back from a trip to New Orleans. I flew with DELTA and used my GPS both ways. There is nothing in the book about not using them. I went as far as asking the Captain and he had no problem with it if you check the book first, and I did. No restrictions. It was really cool looking out the window at 32,500 feet and seeing your arrow moving right along to a new town every few mins. Air speed was kinda neat too. I used MPH not Knots. Thanks You Delta, my first time and hope not the last. ScurvyDog Lakewood,CA
  8. I was drafted into the United States Army. I was with the 9th Div. "C" Btry 1st Bn 11th Arty. After 6 months in Viet Nam. I was sent to "Dong Ha" with the HQ Co. 1st Bn 44th Arty AW SP. This was a twin 40mm and quad 50cal Battery. 1966-1967. Returned home with 6 months left. Reasigned to Fort Ord,CA with the 54th MP's. I am Proud to have served my Country.
  9. I kinda like this one, but that's me. ScurvyDog Lakewood,CA
  10. ScurvyDog was given to me by my Dad. One summer we (my dad & I) JetSkied from Wahweap Marina to Bullfrog. That is on Lake Powell,Arizona and Utah. I got a weeks worth of sun in one day. My face blistered and pealed the next day. "You look like a ScurvyDog" and it has stuck ever since. ScurvyDog Lakewood,CA
  11. ScurvyDog Lakewood,CA Body is 56 years old, mind is about 30 Well,it makes me feel good anyway. And that's what counts.
  12. When I have old rounds I want to get rid of, and I am not going to the range. I just hand them to a policeman or Law Enforcement person. The can "Throw" it where ever.
  13. I have a 99 Dodge 1500 P/U. I have a Garmin GPS Map76 and I use an external ant. but it sits so low in the window that the sats behind can't come in. It still displays pretty good. The only way I could get better reception would be put in a roof mount. I really don't like making holes in the roof. So I am happy. ScurvyDog Lakewood,CA
  14. For micro caches, I like to use smokeless tabaco containers. the are approx. 3/4" to 1" thick and 2 1/2" around. If you add a magnet to them, they will attach to steel and they can be painted to match the surroundings. also I like to use the magnets sent to you by the Pizza companys to put on your fridg. Paint them and leave corrds on them for 2 or 3 part caches. I like them what do you think? ScurvyDog Lakewood,CA
  15. They are very nice looking coins. when I loged my find, I also loged having picked up the coin. I said in my note " I would like to keep it" but the owner said up front he wishes it to travel. I will do what he wants. I may have to buy my own coins to get one for myself. ScurvyDog Lakewood,CA
  16. Have you ever thought about CB radios being peaked and tweaked? Well, I was thinking (sometimes that hurts)if they could do that to a CB radio why not a GPS unit. What do you think about being able to do this? Is it possible or not? If so, how would you start looking for this person? Someone in this world must know how to inprove the accuracy with out letting the government know about it. Then again how much better would you find a cache if the hider doesn't have a peaked and tweaked GPS too? Does this make any sense?
  17. I am still working on my first 100. Right now I am working on the second half of the first 100. I am happy for you, find them all. ScurvyDog
  18. What would be a fair price for a Garmin GPS MAP76? They are about? What$350 or so? May know a guy who, might want to sell.
  19. Hello, while in the Harbor Freight store today. I found a nice plastic tube. It's almost 14" long and 3" around. Just right for holding that cache. The cap "Twists" on and says it's air and water tight. With a price of only $5.99 it was hard to pass up. The only draw back is that it's color is "Orange". No reason why it couldn't be painted to match what ever. Item # 46477 holds up to 10 lbs.
  20. Hi there, I have as you can see is a Garmin GPSMap76, and I love it. I will be much happier when I know how to use all the functions.
  21. I wanted to know "How others felt" Have you ever revisited a cache to pick up a TB, and do you feel it's Ok or Not? I feel it ok, but wouldn't want to upset other Cachers. Would it??
  22. I would like to goto or meet some other GeoCachers in the Lakewood,Long Beach, Downey, Cerritos,Paramount,Huntington Beach area. If there is already a Club or meeting area, Please let me know. I would like to stop by and say "Hi"
  23. Is someone from the Los Angeles,Orange Co.(Calif.) area wanting to order some "GeoCaching" Stickers,Travel Bugs? or other small items? If so maybe we could conbine an order? Then when the order arrives, we could call the others to come to a meeting spot and pick up and Pay for. Just a thought "What do you think?" Areas close to me are: Lakewood,Downey,Norwalk,Cerritos,Long Beach,Huntington Beach. Calif. only
  24. Hey there, thought I would try to use my metal detector (Handheld Model) I use for locating nails in wood after using my GPS. For the times when there is to much leaves and pine needles. Does anyone else do this. This could keep me from messing up the area. What do you think of this?
  25. I would like to get several stickers for GEOCACHING and Travel Bugs, but they charge more for the shipping than for the items. Most paper goods are (really lite). Any way of having them just put items in envelope and send regular mail? Will that work? Maybe they could have more stores selling these items. I don't mean to sound so cheap.
