  1. The OP is not talking about the geocaching app for iphone or Android. This is "Geocaching Live" for Windows phones. IIRC, it shows where other cachers are in real time in addition to the features you might expect a GC app to have. All those out there who are worried about their activities being tracked by souvenirs are gonna have a field day...
  2. Unless it's already grandfathered, it's against the guidelines to bury it.
  3. KC, stop chewing other peoples' used gum. That's gross. According to Dictionary.com: If you aren't talking about Mingo, what are you comparing the ax to? If you aren't comparing it to anything, it isn't an analogy, it's just a story. CR seems pretty relaxed to me. If I go around telling you not to chew other peoples' used gum, does that mean you go around picking gum off the bottom of park benches and chewing it? Of course not. Really, though, stop chewing other peoples' used gum. It isn't sanitary.
  4. So...did you get a new souvi for maxing out nested quotes? Would you believe it if I said yes?
  5. I'm going to bet it is puritan, with a few random numbers after it. I'm going to bet that Toz's password is 4 paragraphs long. Yet another runnerup for "Post of the Day" (the series). Got a good laugh. Everyone is in such a good mood...it must be Friday. Are there souvies for Post of the Day? Are there souvies for how deep you can nest quotes? Would they be rewarded retroactively? I suspect KBI and I would earn it from our discussions a while back. I know I broke the quotes more than once just for having too many nestings... I don't know. IBTL Uh-oh...
  6. I told Toz he should really choose a better password than "Geocaching" That's why he changed it to "icecream." Actually, it was "puritan" that did the trick. 7. Funny thing about that. I went out on the 29th to get a PnG nano at 11 pm in a snowstorm and getting the souvenir was a surprise to me. I just knew if I ever get serious about filling in the "Finds for Each Day of the Year" matrix in my statistics, it's a four year wait to the next 2/29.
  8. At the camp I work at, I take neophyte cachers out all the time. I find that explaining things as we are going is useful. Those who are interested in the workings of GPS and different cache types will hang close & ask questions as we go, those who are just happy to be out and about get that, too. Of course, the Multi cache on the property has a half mile walk to the first stage, so there's lots of time for intro stuff as we go along. The only things I explain before going out are: What Geocaching IS Why the cache page is important (in the case of the multi, it tells you where the trailhead is) and where to get it How the ROT 13 cipher works (Typically, someone will decrypt it on the fly)
  9. No, you need to reread my response. Let me restate it: Requiring a completion code is an ALR. ALRs are allowed in challenge caches, if the ALR is related to Caching, Waymarking or Wherigo. A cache that has such an ALR as requiring a Wherigo completion code would have to be listed as an Unknown Cache, except that the guidelines require any cache that uses a Wherigo Cartridge be listed as a Wherigo Cache, even if it has elements of other cache types included.
  10. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=218388&st=0 can someone be so kind and show me where in the Guidelines or KB article is the exception for the Wherigo ALR? i searched high and low and unless i'm blind i can't find it except in the thread i linked, which is not even pinned Any challenge cache can: The completion code is a Wherigo-related qualification. A Wherigo cache that requires a Wherigo-related challenge might be better classified as a challenge cache, but the guidelines specify: Plus, MissJenn says.
  11. If this is really about the cache owner being able to see if the log is bogus or not, maybe we should work on getting Groundspeak to disallow blank logs first. Seems to me if someone wants to make bogus logs, it'd be a much simpler way to go. If they aren't going do stop blank logs, why in the world would they stop logging in languages non-native to cache owners?
  12. Considering the inaccuracies of a GPS and the fact that, at least around here, the ice almost never freezes clear, you'd have to be digging a pretty big hole in the ice in order to find this one in the winter unless you're using a metal detector. So, you'll be using special equipment then, too: either the detector and/or the ice-safety equipment necessary for working around such a large hole. I'd be interested in seeing what you'd use for a container for such a cache. It has to float and yet be durable enough to stand up to the pressures of winter ice (which can be significant) and the beating it'll take from getting chipped out of the lake. You'd be better off anchoring it deeper and making it a scuba cache. This won't stop the winter hunters, either. There's a scuba cache near me that has been found through the ice.
  13. Huh? No mention of the millions of civilian GPS users? Maybe "high-precision" is the key word? If not, the Fox News reporter did a pretty poor job of researching the use of a commonly used device. Regardless, I find it interesting that anyone thinks that a system with the potential to destroy the ability of the military to navigate & track tactical maneuvers is a good idea. L2's CEO says: So far, we see the military (and private sector GPS users) showing concern. While I'm sure the telecom sector is concerned, last I checked the military doesn't have a horse in that race. What? What's being suggested is not that they are taking money, but that they are using their money to influence the gov'ts decisions.
  14. I have a cache that is titled "Bison Tube" and talks about Bison Tubes in the description. The actual hide is a plastic bison with a hole drilled in it to fit a preform. Recently someone "Replaced" it when they couldn't find it. I might have been ok with this if: The cache was missing. It was in place when I checked. They had used the type of container named in the title of the cache rather than the Airborne container that they did use. So, that's my peeve: Drops on non-missing caches.
  15. Oh come on now. If the world is going to end before 12-12-12, don't you think you've got bigger fish to fry than "collecting" souvenirs for some silly date? I, for one, have much better things to do, like earning the Official End of the World Souvenir: Just kidding. Really what I'll be doing on 12-12-12 is hiding from the world as my 40th birthday fast approaches.
  16. First: In terms of GPS error, the +- error doesn't add up, it actually forms a sort of fuzzy circle. Secondly, I've not checked it recently, but I seem to remember that my GPS is rated for closer to 15 feet than 30 feet, so even if the error ranges added up, what you're calling acceptable is twice that of what I'd call ok. Finally, you haven't received 100's of logs saying your coords are off, you haven't received 100's of logs at all. At the time of this posting, you don't even have 100! Reading over your 99 logs, I found about a half dozen references to wandering coordinates, all on one cache. Out of 32 logs, it might be worth checking your numbers, but it might be nothing. Edit: Realized I only counted "Found It" logs. You can add 6 more onto the count if you want to count Notes, Needs Maintenance, and Owner Maintenance logs. 5 more if you want to count Published logs.
  17. Oh don't get me wrong, I also find the video itself to be pretty cool. Problem is that it doesn't help the cause of the OP at all Yep, it seems to me their time would have been better spent detailing what happens, rather than fuzzing it all out in a grainy video. Also curious why you felt the need to open a new thread, when you already started a thread about it? "OPOP"
  18. Did someone hack your account? Aren't you the live and let live gal (or guy). Nah, it's obviously a team account. We're talking with "Trouble" right now.
  19. Yes.+1How did I know I was gonna laugh again?Hey, my wife answers questions like that all the time. To be less obtuse, I'll expand my answer: For those who don't want to "cheat," don't. For those who do want to "cheat," as long as it doesn't effect others, what can it hurt? It's not like there's a big prize for finding the most caches, right? Platinum Members: See how easy it is to deny the existence of "The Big Cash Pot"?
  20. Being unsure of what roses are (other than the flower), I Googled "Roses Tin". Is it something like this? If so, I doubt it is remotely waterproof.
  21. Like linking to Youtube, perhaps? You saw that too, eh?
