  1. Are these coins as in they have a tracking number, or are they signature items to be left in caches?
  2. No problem mamoreb. I got the inserts for I think around $12 for the two of them shipped to me- one site was selling an individual one for $16! The seller made the wallet for $30, so with tax (since I live in the same state as her) and shipping it was $38. The people who would have made it in leather were quoting prices of around $80 to $100, but I didn't want to spend that much, plus I couldn't get cool colors like the purple and teal that I love. Shat might have been abit sturdier, but I really like the suede. A lady who made things in fabric patterns would have made onf ro $25, shipping included, but I didn't like any of the fabric choices. Like you, I also wanted to be able to pass something around and not have to worry too much about my coins disappering, especially since the last two events are ones I hosted, so I knew I'd be pretty busy and distracted. I actually took the smaller wallet that I originally bought and it served that purpose in the past, it just looked dorky.
  3. Thanks keewee, I completely missed that one! The picture's been fixed now.
  4. Thought I'd share this with people on the board. I have some geocoins that are activated that I like to take to events for people to discover. I wanted something easily portable to keep them in. I bought a nice business card wallet and thought it would work, but of course once the coins were in them, it wouldn't snap closed. So then I started looking at business card wallets that had a row of three slots, but still could see that all the already made ones would have the same problem. So I went to etsy and looked for people who made similar things- homemade business card wallets or ebook covers, out of leather, suede or fabric. I contacted several people to ask if this was something they could make, and decided on one person. I gave her the measurements and so the spine is much wider than a typical business card wallet, in order to allow for the thickness of the coins. I bought business card inserts with three rows and even on the one side, with almost each page having the top row with a coin insert in it, there's still plenty of room. My friend who does the engraving and made the mattes fo the framed coins I showed on here before made these little holders out of the picture frame matting as well, to provide support to the coins and to ahve the tracking numbers clearly visible so people don't have to pull the coins out. I'm very pleased with how it came out!
  5. I got a reply from the coin owner who said he'd been in contact wih the ebay seller, who was looking into the issue, and that he (the seller) got the coins at an auciton. Interesting thing is that the coin is still for sale on ebay. If I had something for sale on ebay and someone even questioned that it might be stolen, even if I didn't believe them or wasn't certain, I'd remove the listing until the question could be resolved. Doesn't leave me with a good impression of the seller...
  6. I had also checked a few of the sellers other items after finding this one and he has several geocoins listed. On some you can't see the tracking numbers, on one it's too hard to read, but on the two coins that are called something like "farewell to pepper", those come up as not yet activated. I don't know if those also belonged to othum, but my hope is that he'll go through that sellers list with a fine tooth-comb and see if maybe some of his other missing coins are in there.
  7. I have a search set up on ebay for "breast cancer geocoin" since there are a few of the older breast cancer geocoins I'm still looking to get one of. Well I got a notification of this listing the other day: http://www.ebay.com/itm/390406949736?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 Went to the listing and it is indeed one that I've only managed to get one of the coins so would love to get a second. but as I looked closer I saw the tracking number showing. So I was going to email the seller and ask them if it was activated or not- the listing doesn't say- because I didn't want to buy an activated coin, and was also going to suggest that whether it was activated or not, they remove the tracking number from the picture. ut I decided I'd just see if it was activated myself. That led me to this page: http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?tracker=pcfbvb At first I only looked at the logs and saw that it said it was in the hands of the owner, so thought they must be selling their own personal coins, But then when I went back and looked at it a second time, I saw the "current goal", which says it was stolen back in 2008! So I emailed the owner, and didn't contact the ebay seller so as to not alert them- although it looks like he/she is just someone who deals in coins and my guess is got it not knowing it was stolen property. Anyway, this was yesterday morning, as of now the ebay auction is still up, but I did get a response from the coin owner last night, so he's aware of it. I'm hoing this can get the coin back to him- after 4 years, that would be great to see it returned!
  8. Springtime caching means great weather- not the 110 degree plus summer weather we have here in the central valley of California. It means the flowers are blooming and the oranges are growing and the smell in the air is so sweet, I want to bottle it up and save it forever. It also means the days are getting longer, which gives more daylight to find caches.
  9. Nice collection- you look to be a fan of jcanyoneer (I may have spelled it wrong). But what does that mean about two being available are prizes for solving your puzzles? Is there another puzzle solving contest somewhere?
  10. What a moving tribute! I love the Rainbow Bridge story- I was given a sheet with it on it by the vet who put my first cat to sleep and I've had it framed in my house ever since. I always share it with anyone who's lost a pet. And to combine that with your obvious love for Kathy is amazing and done in such a beautiful way. I hope to be able to acquire one of the coins, although I don't have anything nearly worthy enough to offer in trade I don't believe.
  11. Very nice gesture for you to make. An unactivated geocoin as an FTF prize several years ago was what got me addicted to coins AND FTFs! I never really thought either before that memorable late night cache run.
  12. Oh how I wish this was a coin that someone had marketed. It really does reflect what caching is all about & there are a few dear friends I would have quickly bought one for!!!
  13. I like the 12 sided idea, and I also like the clock. I don't really think it should be Christmas themed, even though that idea is pretty cool, but as someone pointed out, not everyone celebrates Christmas, and I think that even though this takes place in December, it's really independent of the holidays.
  14. Cool idea- I like the logo on the door.
  15. i need to look, but like the orginal Kathy's Coin, for those who frequent the geocoin forum, i'll not be too worried about what i already have, and don't have...never too many traders, and i'd like those that want one, to get one There was about to be a flurry of minting new coins just to have something to trade!
  16. I'd definitely be interested, probably depends on what the coin ends up looking like.
  17. The first one was so unique and made with such love, I can't wait to see the second one!
  18. Well darn drneal, maybe I can drum one up for you somewhere!
  19. I got a 9/11 geocoin as a Chiristmas present, and went to try to find info about it. I came up with this link: http://shop.geoswag.com/shopsite_sc/store/html/military.html at geoswag and my coin looks like the: Military - 9/11 Ten Year Anniversary AS (Non-Trackable) *new* $9.99 But the insert referred me to oakcoins, where I was able to put in the code (that sure looks like the regular tracking code) on the outside edge of the coin, and it gave me an activation code. So I'm confused as to whether this is a trackable geocoin or not?
  20. I like it- it'd be really nice to have info in one place about who made the coin, versions available and such. I often have to just google around if I want to find that out. But I also really like the automatic aspects of it. I have SO many different websites that I go and need to "check-in" with, that even though there are a few coins out there I'd really like to find, I've searched on some of the coin database sites but I don't have the time to keep going back to look. So if that info was stored and I could just leave it alone til the site notified me that someone had what I wanted, I'd be all for that!
  21. I didn't understand the website- so are they available for sale? I do love the coin, even though I don't know what the writing says, and I'd love to get one! Anyone know if they're available somewhere?
  22. Thanks SO much to the mystery coin giver. I was the lucky recipient of a coin today. Very nicely done coin and what a generous gesture. I don't know who it's from, but whoever you are, you brightened my holiday season!
  23. Haven't seen action on this thread in several days- just wondering if any group decision has been made about whether there'll be one coin or two? Event coin versus Feb 29th/calendar completiong general coin? Thoughts? Ideas?
