  1. Anything new on this topic? I am also interested.....put me down for 50 or 100 if possible. I'll pay whatever shipping cost is to Canada. Paul
  2. I use GSAK to export to Streets & Trips 2005. However I am doing something wrong because the "find status" (correct term ?) is not being passed along and all the cache icons look the same in the S&T's maps. Any suggestions? Thanks, Paul
  3. I "think" I heard on the radio this morning that geocaching was going to be discussed on CBC Radio One on Thursday, May 5, 2005 on Biznet It airs at 5:45 am in Nova Scotia; I am not sure about other time zones in Canada. Tomorrow I'll find out if I was awake or dreaming in "La La Land" when I heard this. Paul
  4. I had a 315 that was my first GPS.....well, ok it was my son's & I stole it from him... We were canoeing on a lake one day in a torrential down pour...well, ok I admit that it was at night and the 315 saved our butt ... anyway, the next day there was moisture under the screen and before long my beloved 315 died. I'm in Nova Scotia, Canada (on the east coast) so I have to send the unit to some little outfit that does warranty and repair work for Magellan in Toronto for repair. The guy there contacts me and said that the case was sealed and therefore the unit was not repairable. For $ XXX.xx I can get a replacement. (I forget the amount). Anyway, I wasn't prepared to buy an already outdated GPS for more money than I thought it was worth so I gave up on the unit & went out and bought another one. I bought a SporTrak Map and am pleased with it, as I was with the 315, but after my previous experience I hope nothing ever goes wrong with it because I was not pleased with Magellan's Canadian repair situation. Paul
  5. Thanks for the replies. Before I leave I probably should log it in & out of a cache here at home. I have a cache that I placed myself that is quite close to where I live so that might be appropriate. Ghosts of Uniacke
  6. At the end of May I'm flying from Toronto to Athens, Greece for a 2 week vacation. At the airport we are going to hop on the subway to central athens to sightsee & guess what, "Geocache". There are, as of now, 7 easily (hopefully) doable caches that are around the tourist attractions & subway stations in central Athens. The trouble is 6 are micros & 1 is a virtual. If I were to convince a local geocacher to meet me at a micro are we allowed to swap Travel Bugs and then log them as though they were dropped off & picked up in a regular cache? I guess the problem would be that 2 geocachers could meet anywhere and swap Travel Bugs. If I don't drop the Travel Bugs here I'd take them with me to Crete or Naxos (2 of the Greek Islands) and hopefully find a cache to drop them at. So...what do you think ? Thanks, Paul
  7. You guys watched "The Matrix" last night didn't you? I did & my mind is still scrambled
  8. We four (Paul..me, Caroline..wife, Julie..daughter & Doug..son) are "Uniacke Raiders" located in Nova Scotia, Canada. Skyarcher was good enough to make the avatar you see but I was wondering if anyone could work in a bike, canoe, highway, GPS combo thing into an avatar for us? I'm a highway engineer, with a bike, a red canoe and a Magellan Sportrak Map. Thanks, Paul
  9. Yup, that was it.....worked like a charm. GSAK seems like a great program, I admit that I am a newbie & I've a lot to learn to get the most out of it. Frankly I decided to use it based on what I read others saying about it & the great support "Clyde" gives. Thanks ... and yes, I will be registering Paul
  10. I'm using GSAK to try to export a file for use in Microsoft Streets & Trips 2005. When I export the file it shows up as an Excel file & then when I try to read it into S&T is says "......\Data.csv has a bad format". I have not registered GSAK yet....I will as soon as my son with the paypal account wakes up......(really, I will, I promise)......might it have anything to do with using an unregistered version? Thanks, Paul
  11. Uniacke Raiders here Anyone wanna try an avatar with a bike, canoe, highway, GPS combo thing ? TIA, Paul

  13. First cache in Canada Geocache by ken kane N 44° 35.607 W 064° 10.838 In Nova Scotia, Canada Hidden: 6/18/2000 GCBBA
  14. Sorry, you are right...I guess i expected you to be a mind reader. I have a handheld GPS and want a PDA so that I can do "paperless" caching. Should I be concerned as to which OS the PDA operates on ?
  15. If I was to get a PDA solely for geocaching which one would the best to get ? Alternatively, what is the cheapest option that will work ? Thanks, Paul
  16. I hope you have a great trip..... I'd recommend "Ghosts of Uniacke" (GCG4GZ). It is about a 2 to 2.5 hour hike that is quite scenic and is "mine". Paul
  17. I just returned home from watching "The Day After Tomorrow" at the theater.....it was your "typical" disaster movie, I thought, with some "sketchy" science but I admit that I still found it entertaining. Anyway....my question related to GPS..... In the movie "the heroes" use a GPS to find the library in New York City which is buried under snow due to a.....(too much rambling, watch the movie if you don't know what I'm yakkin about) What GPS are they using...it's probably more high tech than my SporTrak Map.....and the screen that they show looks like the screen that displays while the GPS is looking for satelites and NOT when you are doing a "go to".... Did anyone else notice this "mistake" or am I confused (as usual) Paul
  18. so the answer to my question is ... ? btw, our team name has never had an account & password but "somehow" used to get credit for the finds. Thanks, Paul
  19. When I log a find my user name, Tall_Guy gets the credit rather than our team name, Uniacke Raiders. Our earlier finds used to be credited to the team name but somewhere along the way it seemed to have changed. It is something I have done or perhaps something I need to do ? Thanks, Paul (Tall_Guy) Uniacke Raiders
