  1. Nice job! Let us know when you come up with more. Also, for your paperless caching, you might simplify your life with GPXSonar... Just follow the link below. Regards, Fabien.
  2. Eheh...Now, I guess that all the cops in CA with laptops rigged to their dashboards have just become criminals
  3. Just a 'Heads Up'... I've updated the User's Guide of GPXSonar. Check out the links section on the GPXSonar site. Regards, Fabien.
  4. Art Carnage... I can tell you from experience that the Gecko does not float! As a matter of fact, it's a real brick! On the positive side of things, it is water-resistant...just don't leave it in the drink too long. As for a solution to the problem, you can check out the containers made by Otter Box or by AquaPac. I own an Otter Box container for my PDA and I highly recommend them. Regards, Fabien.
  5. Neo_Geo... Thanks for the feedback. It is too bad that Garmin makes these cards so proprietary I looked at the features of the iQue. This unit is built around a modified Palm PDA and it supports SD cards by default. However, I haven't seen any mention of the iQue being able to read a MapSource file from a card directly. Instead, it appears that a 'conduit' is the only way to upload waypoints to the system. Regards, Fabien.
  6. What's new in the 1.1 release? New Feature: it is now possible to bookmark ‘center’ coordinates. New Feature: the application can now be installed on to a memory card. New Feature: the GPX file statistics now include the count of found caches and field notes. New Feature: it is now possible to export the cache data to a .loc file. GPS Tuner users will appreciate this one ;-). New Feature: a new menu called ‘My Stuff’ has been added which groups the following options: ‘Travel Bugs’, ‘Caches’ (new), ‘GC.com User ID’ (new). New Feature: ‘My Stuff\GC.com User ID’ : this new option allows you to provide the user ID that you use on www.geocaching.com so that GpxSonar can identify the caches that belong to you. This information is used some of the other new features. New Feature: ‘My Stuff\Caches’ : this option opens up a ‘Cache Manager’: you can use it to manage the caches that you haved placed and you can use it to make permanent copies of cache pages showing in the main cache list so that they can be available even if you don’t have the GPX file where they originally came from loaded in the application. In either case, all the properties of the caches are editable. If a cache has multiple waypoints, they can also be tracked individually. The management of the waypoints is eased with the ability to import a GPX file generated by EasyGPS so that you don’t have to enter them manually. If you don’t know about EasyGPS, you can find more information at http://www.easygps.com New Feature: the caches that you own are now tagged with a ‘red arrow’ icon in the main cache listing. This features requires you to provide the user ID that you use on geocaching.com. New Feature: the statistics report about the content of the GPX file (accessible from “Reports\GPX File Info”) has been improved to include icons. New Feature: the ‘Field Notes’ report has been enhanced with a filter allowing you to report on and delete field notes selectively. New Feature: the dialog used to enter coordinates has been enhanced with a waypoint projection feature. The projection distance can be expressed in ‘Meters’, ‘Feet’ or ‘Paces’. Angles can be expressed in degrees or in terms of a direction (N, S, E, W, NE, …). Bug Fix: under HPC, Pocket Internet Explorer has trouble with filenames containing spaces. GPXSonar no longer uses spaces in bitmap filenames to work around this issue. Bug Fix: the ‘Distance Units’ were not set properly by default. They are now set to ‘Statute Miles’ by default. Bug Fix: In the ‘Travel Bugs’ properties dialog, the maximum length for the name of a travel bug has been extended to 100 characters from 30. Bug Fix: In cache log entries, any coordinates provided by a cacher would not be displayed. This has been fixed. Note: because of the changes affecting the naming of some of the files used in previous versions of GPXSonar, you should uninstall the application from you Pocket PC before installing version 1.1. Before you uninstall it, please make sure to make a backup of the GPXSonar.dat file located under \Program Files\GPXSonar\Config. The final release of 1.1 for PPC 2002 will follow shortly. Regards, Fabien.
  7. Hi Garmin Users, I'm looking into adding Garmin support to GPXSonar. The plan would be to have GPXSonar export the cache data that it maintains to a MapSource file which could then be copied to a memory card (SD/MMC/CF) . The point of this would be to be able to 'upload' waypoints to the unit w/o having to use cables. I already use this transfer method with Magellan Meridians (which support SD cards) and I'd like to implement it for Garmin units as well. My question is this: is it possible for a Garmin unit supporting memory cards to load a MapSource file containing waypoints directly from a card? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks. Fabien.
  8. EGH... Glad to hear that you're going paperless with a PPC I've written a free geocaching app for the PPC that you may like. It's called GPXSonar. You can find it at http://gpxsonar.homeip.net. All you need is to provide the GPX files from your pocket queries. Regards, Fabien.
  9. Rosco... #4 Have you actually clicked on the 'waypoints' property of a cache create with the cache manager? Try it. It will become obvious. #5 Yes, the 'waypoints' property of a cache allows you to suck in a GPX file containing waypoints previously d/l'ed from your GPS receiver. Saves a whole lot of typing
  10. Rosco... This is already possible using the feature to import GPX files saved using EasyGPS. In other words do this: 1. download the waypoints from your GPS unit using EasyGPS. 2. Save the data as a GPX file. 3. Create a new cache using the cache manager : My Stuff\Caches 4. Edit the 'Waypoints' property. 5. Import the GPX file that you just saved with EasyGPS Voila. EasyGPS is the lingua franca here rather than writing a bunch of proprietary modules to import waypoints from all sorts of GPS receivers...That would be way too much work. Isn't it what you are trying to accomplish?
  11. Rosco... I guess I'm not allowed to unplug for a few days anymore ? I understand what you want. I'll add the ability to 'Bookmark' named coords to the app for the next release. Oh, and don't sweat the extra digit in the coords. Regards, Fabien.
  12. 105mm Redleg, GPXSonar currently exports waypoints to Magellan Meridian GPSrs because these units support SD cards. I have no problems adding support for the Garmins and other brands as long as I know what protocol they use. If you can give me some more info on that and test it for me (I don't have a Garmin supporting a memory card), I'll be glad to add the feature. Let me know. Regards, Fabien.
  13. Congrats and Way To Go!
  14. Yeah, I've wished the same thing many times too... until I started using GPXSonar in conjunction to the SD card of my MeriPlat to do all the transfering (very handy in the field) Can you say 'convergence' ?
  15. You may like this one: Pocket PC 2003 - iPAQ 1945 I sure do
  16. Rosco... Different use this time: all I care about when I import waypoints saved with EasyGPS is the name of the waypoint, its description and its coordinates. For that. the GPX files produced by EasyGPS are fine because that's -all- they contain anyway EasyGPS makes it easy to download and save waypoints from GPS receivers and that's the primary reason for making GPXSonar compatible w/ it to save people the hassle of typing stuff in when they use the cache manager. Regards, Fabien.
  17. Rosco... Glad to see that everything is working for you About loading the app from a memory card: I'll get around to fixing this at some point. It's just not a big priority for my own use, so that's why I haven't done it yet. Regards, Fabien.
  18. Since it's Xmas, I figured that a new release of GPXSonar would be in order What's new in the 1.1 release? This 1.1 Beta release is only for PPC 2003. The PPC 2002 version will be available when the final release of 1.1 is ready. You can download GpxSonar 1.1 from the links on the main site page at http://gpxsonar.homeip.net . Please post your feedback here. Merry Xmas, Fabien.
  19. Guys, About the 'Close' button thing: I'm one of those people who actually -want- applications to exit fully from memory when you close them, just like on a PC. I do understand how this behavior could get confusing since most other PPC apps do not behave this way. I'll look into it and possibly add an exit menu option and just 'minimize' the app the rest of the time. Regards, Fabien.
  20. I own a MeriPlat and I've only used rechargeables in it ever since I got it. I don't know where you've heard that a GPSr can be damaged by those batteries, but it's a definite crock of you know what...
  21. Rosco... Ahaha! Good one!
  22. Rosco... You can't add to the list of caches from GPXSonar...yet. I'm working on it actually. In the next release, you'll be able to manage your own caches using the program. More on that later... About the 'States' in the filters: if your original Pocket Query includes caches spanning more than one state, you'll see them listed there. Of course, you can also get the same thing by merging GPX files with a program like Watcher. About EasyGPS: don't use that to manipulate GPX files. It 'drops' all the interesting data as it loads it since it does not understand the GC.com-specific xml tags. As a result, when you save it back, you're missing a great deal of the details that you had in the originals. This has nothing to do with GPXSonar. Fabien.
  23. CC... Just got your email. Checking it out now... I'll answer you directly via email.
  24. Rosco... Do this: 1. Click on 'Cache Attributes'. The text of the filter will be 'highlighted'. 2. Then click 'Config' The check boxes 'Activate' or 'De-Activate' the corresponding filter. This allows you to combine your search criteria at will. As a rule of thumb, the more checkboxes are checked, the more restrictive your search is (they form an 'AND' condition). Fabien.
  25. Rosco... The 'Active Filters' dialog contains 7 options. The 'Bearing & Distance' one is only the first one of them at the top of the list. What you want is 'Cache Attributes', the one just below. It sounds like you're clicking too fast Keep exploring, you'll find it.
