  1. I am honored that I was asked to participate. The truth is that I am just not that computer literate. I built a Wherigo cache several years ago that took a lot tinkering to get right. Now I would be afraid to touch it for fear of screwing it up. However, it does still work and is found occasionally.
  2. Thanks to Max and 99 for the thorough answers to my concerns.
  3. I created our third Adventure Lab yesterday, tested it, and activated it. Unlike the previous two ALs that I did, I don't see credit for creating this cache nor credit for finding it. I have no problem if rules have changed and we don't get credit for finding it but I should see credit.for owning it.
  4. After completing 14 Adventure Lab Caches i would like to create one. I meet all the requirements for getting selected. The nearest cache is about 40 miles away so we could use one in our area. How do I get chosen to create one? Rangercarol
  5. How do I get on the list to create an Adventure Lab cache? We have completed about eight and really enjoy them. They not only take us to new places, the create nice teaching moments.
  6. Getting started. Would like an overview to start looking for lab caches.
  7. Thanks for the fast response. I guess I have to be patient.
  8. I was able to delete the pocket queries from the website but they still appear in the lists on the Iphone. There is no option to remove them. How do I get rid of them?
  9. We are in the habit of downloading lists of caches to our Nuvi and using it to drive close to caches. Then we switch to a smartpnone or Etrex to fine-tune our search. We just bought a new Drive 60 because of it's large screen and new features. Unfortunately, Garmin did away with the Favorites feature which showed all the saved items on the map. The new Drive GPS has a Saved feature which list the caches but doesn't show them on the map. You can look at them individually but not all at once. Anyone else fall into this trap and find away around it? thanks, Rangercarol
  10. Sorry to take so long; I haven't been checking this page. We have an Iphone 5C and a SE. Mostly we use the SE but occasionally we use both, We were out today, using the SE, and found that sometimes the blue dot was not where we were standing. This usually happens after we get out of the car. Sometime it corrects quickly and sometimes it can take 5 minutes. Today, we found a cache because its location was shown near a distinctive landmark but the blue dot was still back at the car. Both phones have the latest update. Thanks
  11. I have been using the Geocaching Ap on Iphones for years in the US, Canada, and Europe and been happy with the progression of the AP. Lately the Iphone 5SE GPS has not been as accurate as it was so I am thinking of getting a new GPS. I bought a Montana a few years ago and was unhappy that it wasn't plug and play; in addition to buying maps, it couldn't do all the Iphone could do. I returned that on and stuck with the Iphone. Now, there may be a more capable GPS that does it all. Not being one to trust the advertising, I thought I would ask users what they thought.
  12. Iphone 5SE IOS 11.5 The GPS is not as accurate as it used to be. It's obvious that the blue dot is not shoeing where I am standing. I like the AP but it is frustrating when it hinders me when searching for caches. It is poor when out in the open and even worse when in the woods. I recognize that this is a GPS issue and not an issue with the AP. Has anyone found a solution?
  13. Thanks - that worked. I still have a bunch of interim versions out there but I guess they are doing no harm. Rangercarol
  14. There is an error in my Wherigo cartridge that I have corrected. However, the site shows several versions of my cartridge but only downloads the early version. How can I delete all the versions except the latest? Also, I want to completely revise the cartridge using the same waypoints - would it be easier to archive the cache and start over? rangercarol
  15. I am trying to correct an error in my Wherigo cartridge. 'Quilt Trail' I have uploaded changes but the only cartridge that can be downloaded is the original. How do I replace or update it? Also, I now have multiple versions in history - how do I delete the ones that are unneeded? The end result is that cachers keep finding errors when they play my Wherigo cartridge. Thanks, Rangercarol
  16. I'll be darned. I tried what you suggested and it worked! Now I will copy your note so I can remember it for next time. On my GPS, removing the GPX files using Internet Explorer does not remove the favorite list and icons from the GPS. Never the less, I will hold onto the backed up files. Thanks for your help.
  17. Did you find the file in Garmin/GPX on your GPSr? On mine, my "Fay 2017" List looks like "Fay2017 - BM3TPGT.GPX", so I expect the file is in that general format when a List is loaded. That name format looks different from a PQ's name, or from a single cache page GPX. When caches don't show up, some people have luck by deleting everything from the Garmin/GPX folder (back it up first), then restarting the GPSr twice, then loading the new files. After that it seems to work fine. It's just an "indexing" thing, a technical issue. Also, remember that with at least the most recent Garmin GPSrs, caches beyond a certain distance from one's current position will not automatically show up. 60 miles, I think.
  18. This new feature sounds very useful to me but I can't get it to work. I have the newest version of Garmin Express and go through the process, as described, to send the list to the GPS. I can see the list as a one bulk GPS file in Windows Explorer but the icons don't appear on the GPS map nor as GPS favorites. Coincidentally, Firefox no longer allows you to use Garmin Communicator to send cache descriptions directly to your GPS. There is a work-abound whereby you can download individual GPX files and then move them to the GPS using Windows Explorer but this new feature sounds like it is much more efficient.
  19. Thanks for your show of interest. We are about to release a notice to our community announcing a proposed class. I think we might see about 10 attendees. As a little background; our community had an introductory session about three years ago and now has four premium members and about six others that are members but have only reported between 10 and 50 caches. Most of those use the old app. We have a lesson plan and will place three sizes of cache containers around the building for the attendees to find without having to navigate. We also have a simple traditional cache in the parking lot. After that it gets more difficult as the 40+ caches in the area cannot be found via the app unless you are a premium member. I don't expect any of our attendees to own a sophisticated GPS nor do I want to address using a non-standard app. I also do not expect much interest in printing out cache descriptions, using a GPS to find the caches, and then logging them via the website. We can take them to a local park and let them use two Iphones owned by premium members. The trick is going to be getting them interested enough to purchase a premium membership. We are open to other ideas.
  20. I am getting ready to teach an introductory class about geocaching to a group of retirees. While preparing an exercise for the students, I discovered that the new smartphone app limits searches to caches rated 1 1/2 difficulty and terrain. I see nothing on the website describing this limit. The original app limited searches to the same standard as the website; you could search for everything except premium caches. How am I supposed to drum up interest in geocaching when the newbies can only see three of the 40+ nearby caches? These people are expecting to use their smartphone and will not start like I did; printing descriptions from the website and using a hand-held GPS to look for caches. They also will not start our by signing up for premium memberships before they decide whether they like geocaching.
  21. The plot thickens. The last time it happened I didn't resubmit the log. A day later, the log popped up like it should have. I think that it may be because of weak WIFI such as found in a hotel where bandwidth is chewed up by all the guests.
  22. Here is the sequence of events- I enter a found log with a photo and a favorite on the Iphone SE. Log with smiley appears on the activity page and list. Check home page on computer and log is missing. Go back to Iphone and log and smiley have disappeared as if never entered. Iphone is connected to wifi for whole operation. See me get really frustrated... Rangercarol
  23. We have a new car with a built-in navigation system. On our old car, I downloaded caches to a Garmin NUVI 1450 to help us get close to caches before switching to an Iphone. The Garmin could display a treasure chest icon and the GC code for the file. I would like to see the same thing on the GPS in the new car. It will accept CSV or KMI files that can be downloaded from a flashdrive. Not being a programmer; is there a simple way to download that information from the website? Thanks for the help. Rangercarol
  24. Thanks for all your comments. I have incorporated them all. Now I have, what is probably a simple issue, I pulled up the cartridge, added a physical cache, made some edits, saved it, and built it. The saved cartridge is good however, the emulator is not picking up the final edits. I can't go any further until I am sure the cartridge is correct. When I am sure it is as good as I can get it I will upload it and submit it to Geocaching.com. Thanks, Rangercarol

    Wherigo

I have struggled building my first Wherigo mainly because I can't find instructions that I am certain are out there. I used Wherigo/kit to layout the tour, tested it in the emulator, and somehow got it to upload to the Wherigo builder. I then played the cartridge in the field. I am having difficulty with the final details; editing in the builder, deleting early versions, and most important, linking the cartridge to a new geocache before publishing. Also, one of the Wherigo cartridges that I played had no physical cache. I kind of like that because the cache is sometimes anti-climatic. The tool for building a new geocache does not seem to allow for that. Comments? Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Rangercarol
