  1. I am no longer able to load today's PQs into Garmin MapSource. Error message pops up say "<filename> could not be imported." I never had an issue loading a GPX file before. I can load other GPX files fine. I can load the PQ into GSAK and then export to a GPX and that GPX loads fine, but that would be a pain to have to do that extra step every time.
  2. Anyone know if either of these events took place this year? I couldn't find a listing and I assume they didn't take place. Nebraskache Kearney Picnic GCJY6D 2004 GC85GHK GC8M9KJ (2020, retracted?) September Nebraska NY Capital Region GCGRDN 2003 GC8AX33 September New York
  3. Here's the updated list. Several events were removed from the list this year and 6 of them below I can't find a 2020 event for. If you know if one of these events took place or didn't this year (Chicagoland, Halloween Horror, Letchworth, NY Capital Region, Nebraskashe Kearney Picnic and NWOGEO Holiday Shindig), please let me now and I will update. These events didn't happen in 2020: Scouting Steyn JOTA/JOTI GHAGAFAP Indiana Spring Picnic GeoWoodstock SEPAG/SPACE Storms the Castle WSGA Summer Campout
  4. My wife and I were the ones who dnfed your cache the other week. You probably want to disable the cache listing since the cache is not in place at the moment. Talking to a friend who found it, he said it was very shiny and didn't think it would last...probably why some muggles found it and destroyed it, which is a shame. About 30m to the south on the other side of the trail are some large fallen trees...that might be a better place to hide it and conceal it well with natural objects. Also maybe include a hint, incase people have trouble finding it. Don't let it discourage you...it's all part of being a cache owner. Looking forward to the cache or a replacement being back in place soon so we have something to find in town.
  5. I believe the number was 12%. The Bruce Trail only owns 12% of the trail, so that 12% you can not place a physical cache along. Problem then is, we have no way of knowing exactly what sections of trails they do own.
  6. Sounds like you got one of the 2005 Ontario Gecoins. I can look up the coin # to see who it belongs to or atleast who initially got it from me. I assume the tracking site no longer exists.
  7. I notice that on the 2017 event https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC6KBPQ_2017-indiana-spring-picnic it says that it is their 15th year, which would mean it started in 2003. It could be that the organizers of the 2003-2017 picnics aren't counting the 2002 event as part of their series.
  8. 1) Go caching in Nunavut (and find my son's cache there). 2) Finish hiking the Bruce Trail (39 km left to go).
  9. I run a yearly event http://home.cogeco.ca/~res2100/GHAGAFAP/ghagafap.html with 400 attendees and we have over 150 prizes. Each PERSON that attends gets their own ticket. You want to be inclusive and not exclude people or family members because they don't have their own geocaching name. 20-25 prizes should go fairly quickly, so it's always more fun and exciting to draw the prizes live than to predraw the winning tickets.
  10. My question is, can an event be rated higher than a D1? According to the guidelines, no, yet we see higher rated D events quite often. If that is the case, why are events allowed to be published with ratings higher than a D1? In the end, does the event host have the right to choose whatever rating they want based on their own opinion? Can a reviewer say "Your D rating is wrong and it won't be published unless it is a D1"? If all events should be a D1 like the guideines suggest, then a simple change in code to force a default for events to a D1 (and don't allow the option to change it) should perhaps be made and it would avoid the entire issue.
  11. Based on your reasoning, one reason why a park event should be something more than a D1 would be if it was a "pot luck" event. There can be some mental preparation involved in going to the grocery store, cooking a dish, and figuring out how to get it to the event while it's still warm. No, a park cache with a pot luck would still be a D1, since the pot luck portion would be optional...according to the guidelines. I do a couple tough hike events every year which are also a D1 and always have been for the last 10 years, since all you have to do is show up at the start (which as per the guidelines is the event, and the hike is just an optional activity)...you don't actually have to hike. If people were required to hike then the raiting would be a couple points higher.
  12. I've held many events. Most are a 1 for difficulty however there are times where the difficulty needs to be higher. In 2008 I held an event at the top of the highest mountain in Ontario which was very appropriately rated a D5/T5. It involved water crossing, elevation change, 30km round trip hiking, 10km round trip of bushwacking. Most of that would fall under the T5, however the D5 comes in that there was an immense amount of mental preperation needed and also overcoming mental obstacles in the process of getting there. Just like solving a high D puzzle that needed mental work, so did the process to successfully make it to the top of the mountain where the event was. Everyone agreed that attended that it was definitely a D5. A D1 rating would imply that a person would have a very easy time getting to and finding the event and for this event, it was not the case. However if the event was in a park or a restaurant there really shouldn't be a reason it should be anything more than a D1. However looking at the Help Center for 1.16, it now clearly states that an event should be a 1, even though if used that rating for for my event in 2008, it would have been very misleading and could have resulted in some serious issues or even death if people thought it was an easy one to attend. I look at it as follows: Difficulty = Mental Terrain = Physical ...The guidelines however no longer seem to follow that like they did in the olden days. There does need to be consistancy across the world though and if it is mandatory for events to be a D1, then reviewers should insist on it so the above mentioned events by the OP should not be published as such. Then again I was told by appeals last year that a cache owner can give any DT rating to their cache even if it is inaccurate.

Added OKIC Summer Picnic Removed WSGA HOLIDAY PARTY - There was no event in 2009 (hence not really annual despite event changing from Dec to Jan during this time) and their 2016 event says it was their 9th only. May decide to ad it back to the list pending more clarification.
  14. I group cache a lot as I enjoy the social aspect of the game and I am sure we have found many of your caches during our adventures. If we saw that request to sign individual names, yes we would definitely honour it, however we may not see it. I don't think many people read the cache page anymore, unless they are having trouble finding the cache, so they may not even see the request. If someone found the cache, there should be no reason to delete the log.
  15. Is my name in the log somewhere? If yes and you let me know what date I signed the log, I can look it up. At one point I had all of the caches in Oakville found.

  17. Thanks for the additions...for the Spring Picnic in Ohio, I don't see one listed for 2010 or was it listed under another account?
  18. Adding the SEPAG event to the 12 years list. If someone wants to make a list of all 10 and 11 year events I would gladly add them, but I am guessing each year it would becoming increasingly larger with more and more events reaching the 10 year milestone and trying to find them all. 15 Years (2001 to present) -- Kansas City Picnic (GCA28[2001] - GC5NJ3A[2015]) – Kansas/Missouri -- Chicagoland/Chicago/GONIL (GCA12[2001] - GC5X6MZ[2015]) – Illinois -- Halloween Horror Event (GC1FE9[2001] - GC63FR5[2015]) - Noord-Holland, Netherlands -- Scouting Steyn JOTA/JOTI (GC2153[2001] – GC63QC9[2015]) - Overijssel, Netherlands 14 Years (2002 to present) -- GHAGAFAP (GC8DFC[2002] – GC5JRZ0[2015]) - Ontario, Canada - Canada’s Longest -- Letchworth Fall Gathering (GC62D5[2002] - GC5YWB3[2015]) - New York -- Columbia River Gorge (GC6BBC[2002] - GC5R4TT[2015]) - Washington -- Spring Fling (GC4B5B[2002] - GC5GY88[2015]) - Oklahoma -- Fall Fest (GC80C3[2002] - GC5RZQH[2015]) - Oklahoma 13 Years (2003 to present) -- Texas Challenge (GCC414[2003] - GC5NTX8[2016]) - Texas -- GeoWoodstock (GCG03E[2003] - GC5Q1ET[2016]) - USA -- Geocaching Hampton Roads (GCGMX3[2003] - GC5CQ70[2015]) - Virginia -- Pine Mountain Star party (GCGEA1[2003] - GC5VHJX[2015]) - Oregon -- NY Capital Region (GCGRDN[2003] - GC5YZ1B[2015]) - New York -- Haunted Halloween Caching (GCH4Y1[2003] - GC610C0[2015]) - Tennessee -- WSGA HOLIDAY PARTY (GCHB51[2003] - GC5G0ZJ[2014]) - Washington (2015 not listed yet) 12 Years (2004 to present) -- Nebraskache Kearney Picnic (GCJY6D[2004] - GC5R97A[2015]) - Nebraska -- Hike n Seek (GCK2PA[2004] - GC5PG40[2015]) - Iowa -- MOGA (GCGZ0B [2004] - GC5KYNP[2016]) - Ohio -- Cache Across Maryland (GCHX89[2004] - GC5KHE2[2015]) - Maryland -- WSGA Summer Campout (GCJ93J[2004] - GC5MDTF[2015]) - Washington -- SEPAG Storms the Castle (GCJHRP[2004] - GC5ZFH1[2015]) - Pennsylvania

  20. The ultimate goal of Travel Bugs is to move. The wishes of the Travel Bug owner take precedence over those of the TB Hotel cache owner. A TB Hotel that requires people to exchange or leave TBs is considered a TB Prison and goes against the guidelines for a cache...a cache with such wording probably won't be published. As a TB owner I think you would rather see your TB move from cache to cache instead of sitting in a cache for a long time because of some arbitrary rule set up by the cache owner. If the cache owner wants to see a good flow of TBs in their TB Hotel, they should hide it in an easy accessible place that would see a lot of cachers come through the area and allow to them help TBs along on their goal. Additionally, instead of relying on other cachers to keep their TB Hotel stocked with TBs, the cache owner could visit their own TB Hotel on a regular basis and fill their TB Hotel with any TBs they find along their caching adventures.
  21. Definitely not the longest but very fun and most definitely unique is the Credit River Shipwreck Series which consists of 146 caches along 37.3 km of the Credit River, in Ontario, Canada. In order to get these caches, you will need to use a tube in the river. There is also a nice variety of hides. We plan on extending this series in both directions this summer. Lots of fun!
  22. I also regularly cache in groups that average 15-20 people and we always designate one individual to submit the answer on behalf of the group. As a cache owner I appreciate a group designating one person to send in the answers for the entire group...rather get 1 email than 20. Also as a cache owner it would be my responsibility to keep track of who found my cache even if they log it 2 months later. Unless there is something really suspicious about their log, I think you need to give the cacher the benefit of the doubt that if they said they were there and found it, then they did. Cachers generally are a good bunch of people.
  23. I'd say you've got until then. I don't know what your timezone is, but it's possible they've just added in an extra day to allow for all timezones, plus an anti-disappointment margin. Edit - is that midnight on the 1st of March in GMT? I am in Eastern Time Zone, so that would be 12 noon GMT Sunday March 2nd
  24. I got an unexpected surprise this week when a friend created a lab cache for me. I haven't gone to find it yet but I am wondering how much time I have to find it. According to the FAQ, I have to find it by end of day Feb 28. However when I go to the lab cache itself, it says I have 2 days and 10 hrs left to do it which puts it at Sunday March 2nd, 7am. Has the time been extended to March 2nd? If so I would wait until March 1st to go find it as it's more convenient for me, but I don't want to miss out if it does in fact expire on Feb 28th like the FAQ says. Hoping someone from Groundspeak can give an answer.
  25. I think I finally found the first one for Kansas City Picnic http://coord.info/GCA28
