  1. I Luv you guys!!!! and KEH!!! I will check both out.
  2. Nice, That is some good trivia. . . We should start a movie location cache series LOL. The Walking dead is a pretty interesting show, and I'm usually not so much of a Zombie movie fan. LOL
  3. I live in the Atlanta, GA area, and thought it would be cool to do a a Cache in honor of the new AMC Series "The Walking Dead" I am trying to figure out where their "Camp" was, and figured it'd be really neat to put some zombie paraphanalia in a cache there. I suspect maybe Kennesaw mountain considering there's a quarry nearby, and you can see the skyline. I will try and hike up the mountain, take some photos for orientation, then look back at the show to see if I can narrow it down a bit better. If anybody else is interested in making this happen, please hit me up!! I think it'd be fun!!! We can take the "walk of the dead"
  4. I finally figured out how to mount my Vista to my 94 CR250, AND keep it safe in the event of a crash. I use the Garmin bag for a gps12, and run nylon strapping around the tank, and through the belt loop on the gps case, then run a zip tie through the loop and around the gas cap to keep it from sliding down the side of the tank. It works GREAT!! If I wreck, the GPS should be fine, as the bike usually doesn't get tagged between the tank and seat (if it does, I will prolly be too dead to care about the vista). It was great for determining top speed on the CR, also, my gps was perfectly scratch free at the end of the day. I hope to cache with it before too long. So far so good!!
  5. Yup, You can do it. Just have the Mapsource compile your route for you, then upload said route to your GPS unit. Activate the tracking feature in the software on your laptop, and enjoy the "big-screen"
  6. I like night caching, both of my finds (WOO HOO!!) have been at night. It was SOOO much fun, I think it really added to the adventure and suspense.
  7. Have been away for a long while, sorry I haven't checked the thread in ages. Were you trying to e-mail me?? If so, that e-mail doesn't look remotely like mine.
  8. I have a Vista, and it has been working GREAT for me. Used it in THICK forest cover here in GA. To top it off, I was on my 94 Honda CR250 Motocross bike. In sections I got him in the top of 5thgear with the throttle pinned. The GPS read roughly 60mph. Never had any probs losing signal. It was REALLY neat to look at the track log on my computer watching the elevation changes over a short distance, not to mention looking at the tracks. Anyway I was really impressed with it's tracking, especially at such high speeds through dense cover. I had it mounted in a GARMIN Gps case, which was actually designed for the 12 (got it because it's padded, and is fully enclosed) which was strapped to the gas tank using sleeping bag strapping (stuff you use to strap a sleeping bag to your backpack). I couldn't watch it while riding, but it was protected in the event of a high speed crash (fortunately there were none) and when I got back to the truck, it showed very complete tracks.
  9. I can agree with both sides on this one. While I understand the necessities of leash laws (most dogs aren't sufficiently trained to allow them to run unrestrained) and agree with them. The owner stated that he had no problem paying the fine for violating them. As long as you're willing to pay the consequences for whatever the violation then so be it. That's a choice each has to make for him/herself. As far as the SUV goes, there's nothing wrong with an SUV or anyother vehicle. I have a problem with anybody that has difficulty understanding "Slower Traffic Keep Right". What it boils down to is live and let live. We all have choices to make for ourselves, each of these has an accompanying set of consequences, which are also chosen by default. As long as you're willing to pay if you play, whatever the choice is, for whatever situation, then all should be ok.
  10. Thanks Anders, I appreciate the input. My click-stick seems particularly "clicky" so hopefully I got a good one :-D
  11. Anders, I know what you mean, I think mine is a "wednesday" unit, hopefully I won't ever have to send it in, and get a different one, that may be a "monday" or "friday" unit. I wanna get some of those screen protectors, as the only thing I anticipate having to send my unit in for is a scratched screen (assuming of course, my click-stick never goes south.) Speaking of the Click stick, did garmin ever upgrade these in the etrex line?? Any way of knowing if my unit has the upgrade already??
  12. I work at an outdoor store, and we sell Garmin units. If you'd like a rebate form, I have some, I can mail ya a couple if ya like, just shoot me an e-mail (will send ya one to send in, and one to spill coffee on )
  13. . . . for developing this site and hence the sport. I have only been on two caches thus far, and plan on going again on friday. Alot of my friends (geomuggles) want to come along now. It's a really health, constructive way to enjoy life, and nature. As much as I like the outdoors, it's hard to just go for a walk without an objective (for me). This has given me the objective, the impetus to get out and enjoy life. Thanks so much!! Jeremy, I've never met you, but tip my hat in appreciation and kudos. Rob
  14. What wonderful stories!!! For those that have "guardians", especially the one with the homeless gentleman, those that can get to it should leave trinkets for them. A trinket tailored to that person would be great. It must be such an inspiration to own a cache that brings sooo much joy to the life of another, especially when life hasn't been particularly kind to that person. Stories like that really give me a renewed faith in the inherent goodness of people. That somebody could look out for another in such a state speaks loads for him.
  15. As a fisherman myself, it makes me sick to see trash all around places to fish. Half of the fun in going fishing is to be outside. I hate gettin tangled up in someone's fishing line as much or more than the next person. Also one reason it's so hard to fish anywhere anymore is these buttknuckles leave their garbage everywhere, so there's always "no fishing" signs posted, drives me nuts. I mean your bag was obviously big enough to bring the refuse in, it's big enough to get it out!!!
  16. Were you playin w/the Photoshop again??
  17. Goodrich Comp T/A 245/50/16. I need a truck, the poor ol Stang refuses off-road duty.
  18. quote:Originally posted by Joe Smith:I am also In sales. It is true that many people waste your time for free information and either buy it online, or go to another store. Yes, it is rude. But people just don't care very much anymore. Just because I dress nice (cause I have to) they think I make enough $ that I don't care about their business. I'm a student, I have bills. This will just get worse near Christmas time because everyone is looking for the best deal. to everyone: I you are talking to a salesperson, let them know your intentions up front. I won't waste your time, please don't waste mine. I am friendly and professional to everyone, please have the respect to do the same for me. I will answer any question you may have, if I know it. If I don't I can find out. And even if you could save two bucks if you shopped online, we are going to be here if you need us. Call me at midnight, I will be there. Come and yell at us if we did a bad job. Praise us if we did good. But I think it is worth a little more to have face-to-face contact, to deal with someone who knows your name. To have more than a distant voice on a telephone. Thank you for listening, and have a great day. Joe Very well put Joe!! I hated to sound the way I did, in my original post, but I don't think people really understand just what it's like.
  19. Fortunately none of the cacher's were hurt in that incident. I'm sorry to see your cache in such disarray
  20. quote:Originally posted by Stunod:Mr502go must be on commission... I don't understand why someone would take the time & effort to go to the store, then also pay the shipping charges to order it online. Must have been a BIG price difference. http://www.rowwindow.com/images/homer.gif __"Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand."__ To confirm your statement yes I am on commission (most retail store salespeople are), and yes the prices are a bit higher than online. One of the reasons for this, is the organizations selling online don't aren't paying people to sit there and demonstrate the units/answer questions, hence there is more overhead. The point is, if someone knows what the price is before hand, and has done their homework, there's no reason to sit there and take up literally an HOUR of someones time. If you wanna buy the unit online that's fine, I do alot of shopping online myself. The difference is I don't sit there, and take up an exorbitant amount of someones time without intent to buy from them at their price. Part of what you're paying for is the service, not just the product.
  21. I happened upon this thread looking at different places people shop. I work for an outdoor store that sells GPSr's. I just wanted to say to all those in search of a good deal. While I understand, and enjoy the power of the internet, and the good deals that it offers. Please keep in mind when shopping for a GPSr, and examining it at the store, that the person that is demonstrating it for you spends valuable time. . . I am saying this because on MANY occasions, I have spent literally over an HOUR with ONE customer showing him/her the ins and outs of GPS usage (to the best of my abilities at the time) to be told by the customer that he/she LOVED the product and would buy it. . . ON THE INTERNET!! I have had this happen on more than one occasion, in fact it happened to me three times in a day. The reason they cost more in retail stores is you CAN touch them there, you can ask questions, and if there's a problem you can bring it back. It's not fair to take up someone's time when you have NO intention of buying the unit there. I can understand if customer decides not to purchase at all, or doesn't like the product offered, BUT, to decide you like the product after a long discussion with the salesperson and then to buy it somewhere else, is flat out RUDE. On the same note, to go into a store with NO intent to BUY a unit THERE, but only with intent to ask questions and seek a demonstration is equally unscrupulous. I know this doesn't apply to many people, and I'm sorry to come off that way, as I like helping people. All I'm asking is that for those considering buying a GPS, to please consider this before asking a person for their help at the counter. I mean a little 5 minute demonstration is fine, ask opinions, but let it be known upfront that you're just looking and have researched the price on the net, don't have it pulled outta the case. You could be costing that salesperson many sales. Your savings shouldn't be someone else's loss. Just an opinion.
  22. Too bad Garmin doesn't offer updates for their mapsource products like they do for their GPSr's. I think it's ridiculous that you should have to keep paying over and over for map info you paid over $100 for to begin with. I mean if they wanna charge everytime, I could see it if all the info you needed was downloaded from the net without the CD's. That way it would be a lot more affordable for everybody.

  24. quote:Originally posted by ptv99jgc:I kayak with my Vista (not white water, but on lakes, rivers, creeks and streams). It has been under water many a time. Presently it is at Garmin to have the rubber gripper strip replaced. The rubber strip does nothing for the water resistance. It is sealed under that strip. It has been under water the length of the lanyard, but never any further. It has been rained on, been in my black Jeep on Hot Georgia days (I suspect that did the glue in on the rubber) and has never faltered. The electronic communication posts under the flap are deeply embedded into the plastic case and will not be leaking, the same goes for the battery compartment power leads. The unit is built solid and will not go dead if submerged as the IPX7 minimum standards. Paul Thanks Paul!! That's the kind of 411 I was looking for, great, I feel a lot better now. I wonder what happened to the people who say their etrex series GPSr leaked?? Just confusing.
  25. I know the eTrex line, and the Rino line have the same rating, but I'd think the eTrex would be more waterproof considering the eTrex's don't have holes in the case for the speaker. It seems water could enter the case of the Rino much easier.
