  1. it is always cool to get new and crasy ideas, dont ever stop think creative ideas, even if they dont directly fit this game, they might fit another game, here is one work arround : get a TB, as mentionened before it can be a tattoo or just a neckhanger or tshirt code or bagpack code, either way the page of the TB can explain where and when it is possible to find the TB, this is legal TB behaviour.. now your TB code, could also hold the secret code for a puzzle, when the TB is discovered, they get access to a cache in the same area, bingo you got what you wanted. many simple tricks to make TB codes into cords exist. some even works with out math or any hard to calculate tasks.
  2. I as a CO will delete found logs where the "finder" reveal in his online log he did not sign it !! a PEN is more important over your GPS or phone, you as a seeker must learn this simple rule, you did not sign it, then you dot not find it !! read the guideline for the game you play. bring at least two working pens, and bring extra battery for your GPS
  3. welcome back, it dont matter if you find 100 caches pr day or 100 days between a find, as long as you do exactly what makes YOU happy, not me or anyone else, and specially NOT the stats. The last few years alot of caches came out, so you find most likely your area is now full of caches, go and find a few of them, also the search and sort tools got better, so you find it easier to select and uptimize your time, so you spend as much time possible, on cache types you like the most.
  4. exactly, I find it similar to searching for a traditionel, the darn thing is not easy to find, try real hard for a long time, phone a friend, who more or less reveal where it is, pick it up and sign it, call it a find..
  5. well in the old days I wrote more in the paper log and less in the online log, then I realized the paper log got a much shorter life, and much less people sit and read in it, so today I write as little as possible in the paper log, and as much as I feel is needed in the online log, this way I share more, with more people. I also write funny faces and smily faces and such if I feel the size and time call for it. (if I power cache, I use my stamp) Date and time is not required, but can be fun to add some times, I find it funny to know another person found the same cache 14 mins ago :-) if you do add date (or time) make sure it is correct..
  6. 16 km = 10 miles Total Records: 5571 - Page: 1 of 279 from my home location Ballerup Denmark
  7. it can be a fun and good learning experience to solve puzzles together, using the internet as a communication methode to join peoples minds can be good, but offcourse it can be used wrong too. Seeing alot of hits from all over the world, just means people found the puzzle interesting enought to talk about it, take it as a good thing :-) you most likely designed it to make people happy ? not to waste their time ? -- if people find ANY thing in this world to hard to handle them self, they start ask for help.. why should puzzles be any different ?
  8. >Here in FL, I believe we have two seasons: hot and hotter HOPE TO SEE YOU SOON :-) here where I live in Denmark, we got a green Winter and a white winter, that is our year. caching in the city area is more or less the same all year BUT in the forrest where caches are mostly located on the ground you can imagine how hard it can be to find stuff with a little fine layer of snow, this is why I bring a large outdoor broom, so I just swipe a large area, offcourse if people will be so kind and use a nice useable hint I need to swipe less and I prefer that.
  9. PM only, on all our caches ? will this solve it ? I really liked the idea about this to be free and open BUT I dont like the idea about the download and find in 10 sec approch people NEED a little bit more intro before they go out and jamm caches due to not know how to behave.
  10. we got about 300 active hides, on two accounts :-) it is about what we can handle, my wife and I if others can handle 1 or 1000 I care less.. what is importent is you hide them, AND maintain them.. better hides = less problems and less total work.
  11. here is another example of what I said.. http://coord.info/GC31VEK see first logs. very complex, multi staged, night, lostplace. we actually where 3 beta testers, and the CO uptimizing all details 3 days before release, two of us had no prior information at all, played regular finders, so all our faults where detected and handeled, this way the cache ended as one of the BEST in this area.. 99 finds, 53 FP I strongly advice the use of beta testers when you create creative caches and harder multistages
  12. a Beta tester is a tester.. he can sign the log with BETA TESTER, but usually he dont do it on the first page, no matter where a beta tester sign it, the first person who finds it, using the official puplish log as only information, is the correct first to find. A beta tester can also log it as found online, but it is smart to wait a few days after others got the FTF and logged it. the beta tester can then log it, the date and time where he did test it, that date is typical BEFORE the puplish log offcourse..
  13. >Was it against the guidelines? NO off course not, and it was correctly rated, and plenty of clear explain about how to handle it, and even also extra warnings about all details. >Archived out of respect immediately by the CO when he heard of the incident. Sounds like a good enough reason to me. EXACTLY !! it is not fun for anyone to got and seek a cache, where another person lost his life, this is not the idea about geocaching. There has been a few other caches where people got killed (not in Denmark) those caches also got archived in respect. Please try to keep this thread free from dum-smart comments, we dont need them, thanks.
  14. any one with insider information, direct or indirect, should NOT participate in FTF hunt.
  15. A short translation from the article: yesterday 22 oct a 40 years old male geocacher from Germany died while trying to find a geocache in Danmark, his friend a 44 years old male, barely made it alive. Danish: http://www.bt.dk/krimi/tragedie-ved-als-familiefar-druknet-under-skattejagt http://www.dr.dk/Nyheder/Indland/2013/10/22/1022214808.htm We dont know yet what kind of problem they got into, the cache is closed as fast as we heard about this, we are many geocachers from Denmark who are very sad to hear about this, we think about his family and friends in this hard time.. please take care out there..
  16. ha ha soo cool.. newer underestimate how smart kids are, or how much they see just by walking the street.. their mind is made to educate them, by investigating anything out of the ordenary, kids are perfect cache finders..
  17. we tried to make a little power trail here in Denmark :-) http://coord.info/GC43AG3 We released it 1 month ago, and allready we see people show up from all over Europe to visit it, and have a go.. People invent all kinds of new funny games, like how many can you find by foot ? by cycle ? by car ? pr hr, pr date. Some people dont like to find that many, and that is also perfectly fine. Geocaching is all about find out what you like and just do that :-) We do NOT alow parallel team work logged under one unique name that is what we call cheating !! however we can not find out if people do this or not, their own problem.. We also dont alow container swapping, or Throwdowns. So far the record we belive is valid and performed truely is 533 finds in 24hrs, they did it correctly from 00:00:00 to 23:59:59 one of them is "Skattletaren" he is also one of the CO's behind the Swedish Power Trail i LUND..
  18. when we select special and maybe good/cool caches to visit we use how many FP it got, we also look on the % since either of that, is not perfect alone. a new cache with two friends finding it, both give their beginner friend FP now he got amazing 100% FP score, for a normal front yard cache.. wait 4 years, and it got 140 visits, and still the same 2 FP :-)
  19. some puzzles are actually so tricky, there is no real solution, but to go at the listed cordinate and actuallt find it :-) so where to list that ?? it is at the cordinate :-) come on, the system is perfect like it is.. you click the ? read what to do, if you cant solve the puzzle, or dont fullfill the logging requirement, ignore it. you do exactly the same thing, if it is a challenge or a puzzle.
  20. you should respect other people, and their spare time.. if you place a cache at a very remote location, if that one gets a DNF, you can expect the cacher actually searching quite well for it ! no one hikes 4 hrs, and search just 4 minutes for it.. So the chance is alot higher it is maybe gone, or moved by animal, or area changed so hint dont fit, many things can happen.. Would you go for a very long hike, to search for a very remote cache with 1 DNF as its last log ?? I would NOT !! the CO should offcourse check it, if he do not care for it, then he placed a cache too remote, and he should archive it. another methode is to contact the DNF'er and ask more deep into where he searched, for how long, and what did he see there ? sounds like the correct spot ? and so on. a CO who hides very remote caches, also take pictures of the spot, and also very remote caches are rarely hidden that well, like a nano drilled into a branch 25 meters off GZ
  21. most caches placed just outside a shop of what ever sort, or for what ever reason, is indirectly commercial, since it draw people to the location, if the person there, got a need for the stuff they sell, there is a risk he make a purchase.. directly commercial listings are not alowed, that maybe also apply to the user name, if this is bothing you ? you can always ask your local reviewer what he thinks.
  22. so what.. kids like this loose interest in this game fast, and should be just as fast forgotten.
  23. I delete logs all the time, it is what a CO is required to do when he know a log is bogus, it is a part of the CO job, the rules are clear to all parts, explained really good online.
