I think part of the appeal is the solitude, the lack of human presence. I think if more people were out there, and you saw people everytime you went for a cache, it would lose it's appeal. So it's good that some people think it's stupid. I just hope the search and destroy types don't come around. But then again, most caches I do are far enough away that they would never put in the effort.

I think there's some bugs in it. I usually get those and other e-mails, and lately they haven't been coming either, although I did get some today. Seems like it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't

I've seen post about mounts often here and wanted to show pics, but always can't find them when I need them. Anyways I use Ram mounts, I find them great and can change from vehicles to vehicles to hand with basic ease. With all the different ends, I can place it in my Van, car with suction mount to quad with handlebar mount to boat. The GPS, holder and extension is all that needs to be transfered. I don't work for Ram, I just thought I'd post this while I have the pics together.

Mine was just recent. This One was never found and over 2 years old. It ended up being a 200kms trip on our quads. My son and I took 11 hrs (total trip) and although we did find the right spot, we never found the cache. We did have a great ride and a beautiful day and stopped and grabbed 2 other caches which my son hadn't found on the way back. Wrote a note log and a maintenance log, but haven't heard anything yet. If it gets archived, I just may go place one near there.

My 60csx has done the same thing with topocanada, now when nearing a known area (where my GPS shuts down), i'll go into map settings and hide topo, not the greatest fix, but a workaround. I've got2 definite spots it shut's down and seen a few more which I never verified.

I'd have to say whenever I get a new cache that I totallly enjoy it's my favorite. When your at a great cache, that cache is all that matters and is the greatest. But one cache that stands out for me is Chipmunk Caves. I travelled 3000kms and got this one, my first B.C. cache. My son and nephew were a little scared to go in the caves, but I was going in for sure. I called them in and told them it's great (and safe) inside. They came in and we took pics. It will be one I'll never forget, neither will they.

The police should get an account with pocket queries that show all nearby caches. Then they'll know if it's a cache. At least check and see if there are any caches at the so called co-ordinates. a 2 minute search would save hours and dollars.
It's just about impossible to make a cache not look like a bomb, any suspicious container would be considered.

I like caching with my quads, but any cache that takes me to a beautiful place or a place with a beautiful view is what I prefer. Always bring the camera and take lots of pics. Idon't have many caches in my area, I've pretty well gotten most and have been slowly getting the less interesting ones (Micro & Multi's). But usually I'll plan for some caches and make a day trip out of it. Also got my eye on some really awesome caches that will be weekend trips.

Thanks to Cache-tech. He's very prompt at getting caches out and we've been keeping him pretty busy lately.

Had an old magellan GPS since the late 90's, upgraded last year to a 60CSX. The 60CSX has Geocaching features built in. After about 4 months using the GPS, I decided to see what this geocache thing was about. Went to geocaching.com, downloaded a page of caches close to home postal code. Went out and got a cache close by, Well the rest is history.

19 out of 158, I usually log my DNF's but don't usually log the second, third attempts unless it's a find. I just log 1 this weekend, I traveled 200kms round trip on my quad and didn't find it. It was 2 years old and had no finds. But the trip was great and I got the real prize as the area was more important than the actual cache.

I use the ram mount, no vibration and easily goes from my vehicle (suction cup) to ATV to my boat mount. You just loosen the extension bolt to unclamp it from the ball and place it on the other ball mounts. They have ball mounts that can hook up just to about anything. Bonus is my ATV has a lighter plugin so I don't use the batteries while driving.

11 so far out of 157 finds. I have most of the caches in my area done, so when a FTF comes up, I get to cache near home again. I do leave them for others, but if they don't find them within a week, I'll be going after them.
3 of my FTF's, I'm still the only one who has found them. There is one more on my list to find that's about 100km quad ride away. Was gonna go for it tomorrow, but now it looks like rain.

I think this is a game and the numbers are fun, to me, taking away the numbers would be like taking away caches that have great scenic views. There not needed but they sure make it fun.

Garmin 60CSX with 1gb card and topoCanada and metroguide
Sony DSC-H2 with 1gb card and polarizer lens and tripod
That's more than enough right there without adding PDA, Swag, Spare rechargeable batteries, MP3, cell phone, FRS radio's, flashlights and headlamp.
Throw in the 2 quads loaded with storage boxes, winches and other excessories we usually cache with and yeah, $50 bucks is about right.

Mine did the same thing last summer when it got really hot out, been going great through the winter, but am waiting to see if it acts up again this summer.

Check them out, you may see things you never new about.

Why does one cacher feel he should change things for everyone else. If you don't like these caches, don't do them. There is a big enough variety that will keep you going with what you'll like to do. We are all grown up and can make up our own minds, we don't need anybody doing it for us.
Soon we'll all have to wear padding and helmits, and pay to do each cache.
Leave well enough alone.

I use the ram mount on my quads. No problems even when going fast in the rough. What I like about the ram is it uses a ball and socket connection, so it can attached to all different kinds of adapters. Just loosen the arm screw and cetached and attached to suction cup, handle bars bracket, even a flat bracket I use for in the boat.

I am hoping to tackle Silver peak this suummer also, looks like a great trip/cache, thanks for the map also. Might just come in handy.

I mount mine right at the bottom under the rear view mirror (Ram suction mount), easy to see yet it doesn't reall block anything. Don't have to move my head, just my eyes. I find the 60CSX works great for autorouting, the warning turn screen pops up well in advance and then a second warning pops up within 100m of the turn. while driving, sometimes i'll just page over and get a heads up on the next turn (distance, direction and name of street). And I don't usually panic if I do make awrong turn, it recalculates and puts you back on track.

I enjoy caches that are of great places (waterfalls, caves, scenic lookouts) so the faster I get there, the more time I can enjoy the area. So I love the autorouting.
The great thing about caching, you can make it as hard or easy as you like, and you can pick and choose the caches you like. There's something for eveyone.
