  1. I just found out today that all Garmins have an updatable internal world map for calculating MV.
  2. Here's mine.. no recycle bin..
  3. Well, the question is, why would someone with a Porsche go bashing along on a 4x4 mud track in the first place? ..well yes, my point exactly!
  4. Ahhh yes, I forgot about that...
  5. Some maps that work on Garmin are: Garmin City Navigator NT Thailand 2014.30 Garmin North of Thailand Travel Guide (13province) - Thai language Thailand ASTER GDEM v1.02 - Garmin Garmin Thailand Topomap v.1 ~
  6. My recycle bin has the capacity of the hard drive. If I choose not to empty it then it never forgets it's contents. How is this different from a Mac? ()
  7. Previously I've stepped back off a boat ramp and into 4 foot of water only to realise that my iPhone was in my vest pocket, DOH! The phone was dead as and so I learnt my lesson the hard way, once. The eTrex replaces my iPhone on boat/hike trips. It's had quite a few swims and some accidental heavy knocks that would smash an iPhone and continues to function perfectly! I'm sure a Porsche would be fine bashing along on a 4x4 mud track but why would you want to, unless you are an idiot!
  8. ... just put one of these near it on their frequencies.. ... and they won't bother building any more!
  9. Ok, but you are not making it obvious to other posters is that you get your iPhones replacements for free no matter how many units you destroy in your caching efforts! So there is no cost to you, but only you! I simply can't afford to risk my expensive non water proof/non shock proof iPhone just for geocaching! That's why the cheaper Etrex exists because it is designed just for the rough and tumble of geocaching, nothing more. Unless Apple makes into the future a water/shook proofed iPhone for water sports/hiking then the purpose built eTrex will do. Also the only data on the etrx are map imgs that are computer backed up anyway. When on the trails it's best to keep technology as simple and as dedicated as possible.
  10. Oh dear! It's that POS compass thing that everyone here says has been resolved.. My eTrex 20 does not encounter such issues.
  11. Trash can on a PC is called the 'Recycle bin', same thing as the mac!
  12. Yes I have even a raw copy of the eTrex 20 firmware, files and folders on the SD card should anything go down..
  13. Like 'Adventures' it will never be used by me as a serious option due to it's lack of support!
  14. Zero I've both had my iPhone die from water damage, and fractured the glass screen. I lost zero data. From the water damage-I lost no money. From the fractured glass screen I lost $29.99 I lost NO data Same here, I won't lose any data either as my iPhone lives in one of these when I hit the trail.. http://www.otterbox.com/Pursuit-20-Dry-Box/otr-pursuits20,default,pd.html My $150 Garmin is water proof and shock proof... ...my $900 iPhone is not. .
  15. Again, not true. If I lose my Garmin, it's lost and I must replace it. Not so with my iPhone. Not true! Then please explain how it is my $150 Garmin is a more expensive replacement than my $900 iPhone?
  16. It's Garmin's programmers who are certifiable, not the user! Designed obsolescence should be in the product, not in the company! The market place will ultimately determine their "Defective Users" future purchases!
  17. ^^ agree and remember it costs a lot less to lose/break/swim a Garmin than a smart phone.. .
  18. Your profile says you've never logged a cache....? ...and it never will, my geocaching activities are private and not for public analysis!
  19. I'm hoping that they scare Garmin enough to force Garmin to beta test in house before releases are made.. ..in short, more competition always brings better products!
  20. Ask yourself this... ...how much personal data can you afford to loose if you dunk/kill your phone in the field?
  21. Be thankful it doesn't have a compass that needs constant recalibrating! The only thing it needs is for you to take two steps forward to be 1,000 times more accurate/reliable than the eTrex 30's tri-axial compass!
  22. Get the SD card Garmin recommends and go for only 16 GB as the 32 GB cards are known to have issues! 32 GB are oddly not recommended by Garmin because of those issues even tho the unit can take 32 GB, go figure....
  23. I have an eTrex 20 but it lives as with the iPhone (Pelican dry case) in the day pack. The unit that lives in my hand is the original eTrex H.. Just luv it for it's simplicity, accuracy and it's lack of all the GUI guff that the new eTrex 10/20/30 series is. And the screen is bigger, lol! Not saying phones are any less capable but way too expensive to take repeated dips... I can buy 14 x eTrex H's for the cost of one iPhone and the GPS performance difference is negligible. So I use a dedicated device for geocaching confident that if the elements go bad it won't hit my hip pocket nerve at all! Besides the eTrex H lives in the car glove box next to the Suunto compass when off duty..
  24. I have an eTrex 20 and have no problem downloading caches from geocaching.com.
