  1. Oregon 550t blows the Etrex series away! If you buy an Etrex you will still have to buy the Oregon 550t anyway after you have resisted throwing the Etrex out of the car window and sold it on... You have been so advised.
  2. The Etrex H's can't be that great as you seem unable to find any caches with them and do you leave the Etrex 20 at home in the drawer with all your other socks? I hang glide, like up in the sky! Haven't yet found a cache there yet but I'll let you know when I do. Oh, the 20 goes into my Glock drawer, not sock drawer... ~
  3. I have two Etrex H's and I love them, my Etrex 20 stays at home. Oh what a disappointment the 20 turned out to be! Bling but no go!!! The 20 has a smaller low resolution screen, a really clunky GUI and menu's that just don't make sense and it's soooooo sloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow! Ergonomics were marketing led, not user lead. Don't be fooled like I was with the groovy hype, the 20 is rubbish compared to the excellence of the Etrex H. Similarly the 30 is a nightmare of failed firmwares, avoid. Do yourself a huge favor and buy the latest of the 60 series and forget the current Etrex cons as a slick marketing ploy found out. Seriously, don't waste your time and money with the 10/20/30... ~
  4. Not so if you're talking about the Etrex 'H' yellow one. I have two and they out perform the new Etrex 20 hands down in closed cover. The 'H' is a perfectly matched system and goes without the new series Etrex bling that has brought so much trouble to the current line. Keep it simple, stupid 'KISS'!
  5. Not always true, the Etrex 30 arrow often points in the opposite direction! http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=309767&view=findpost&p=5236534
  6. I've had my Etrex 20 for about 12 months and used it heaps! But the screen has no scratches on it. What I have done is put 3 clear rubber pads onto the glass area so that it lifts the glass area off from any surface and gives your fingers something to grip onto...
  7. So you're saying that the serial connection for the Etrex H now works with your computer. So if I use this then my old serial plug can be used again instead of getting a modded USB one?
  8. The tile limit on the Etrex 20 is 3000! What is the tile limit on the 64?
  9. Windows Virtual Machine of XP will allow you to communicate with it.
  10. Motorola Walkie Talkie TLKR T40 - $50 AUD http://www.motorolasolutions.com/web/Business/Products/ConsumerTwo-WayRadios/T40/_Documents/_StaticFiles/ENG_TLKR_T40_SpecSheet.pdf http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Motorola-Talker-T40-2-Way-Walkie-Talkie-Radio-Black-Red-Pack-of-2-/231159617737?_trksid=p2054897.l4275
  11. Yeah it's just drag and drop into the Garmin folder. I have just got City Navigator 2014.40 and it was just drag and drop also.
  12. Is this Etrex 10 or Etrex H you are referring to??
  13. No, the internal mag variation map in every Garmin is updated in each firmware update. Garmins auto calculate the magnetic variation depending on your location. It's all automatic on a Garmin. Custom inputs are at 1 degree intervals.
  14. I should add I didn't find the GPS maps to any great advantage over the paper maps I used anyway. The Etrex H adds positional accuracy to the paper maps very easily. I forked out the required $100's for the Garmin maps but went back to paper maps because paper maps can have screen size of several feet! There was no increase in accuracy using the Etrex 20 over the Etrex H.
  15. I bought an Etrex 20 and loaded a CN, CX, Topo, BlueChart, OSM, Shonky, Birdseye and contours, but so far but I left it at home in favor to my Etrex H. In fact I went and bought a second new Etrex H ($49) and carry that as my spare! Stick with the old yellow Etrex H, you can't got wrong with this 'design classic'.
  16. My 50 sits on the dash and guides me through the city and country, finding the odd ATM as well but nothing more is needed by me. I suppose its what you need it for. For me it's not an entertainment system as I already have one of those in the car. It just does what it does and does it well. No need to update this one.
  17. I bought two Nuvi 50's with one as a spare. For the car with CN and Topo with 5m contours they work brilliant and without issue. New models offer nothing new or better!
  18. It's a stop watch that measures both in time and distance or each respectfully.
  19. Rand McNally GPS http://www.randmcnally.com/product/foris-850 Rand McNally Foris 850 GPS Has Built-In Contour Maps and Voice Directions According to their rep, Rand McNally is already #1 in truck and car GPS systems; now they are entering the competitive outdoor GPS market with the Foris GPS. They gave us an in-depth demonstration, and we were impressed. For one thing, contour maps of the entire US, including special features like roads and trails and special interest sites, are already in the GPS – no cumbersome and expensive downloading of desired maps from a website like other products force you to do. Navigation is by touch screen and very user friendly. A special feature is the ability to offer localized hiking, biking, or driving options for the amount of time and energy you have available. The screen is very sharp and the unit responds quickly. And this one will provide voice directions, if desired, just like a car GPS. This is all very impressive for a brand new product. Weight is 8.15 ounces and MSRP is $400.
  20. I got royally poo poo'ed here for asking about a popular Hawaiian hydrocache! So now my GPS water adventures are to highly valued fishing/lobster caches gotten and shared at another forum.
