  1. I will be in for the Monday trip and I have some seats in my truck if anyone wants to carpool.
  2. I can do Monday morning for Phil's Memorial Cache? If that is the one you are going for that day, let me know what time you are heading up there. I will have room in my truck if anyone else wants to carpool. Sunday morning I don't get off work until 8AM so I will pass on those for now in Blair Valley.
  3. Congrats to Miragee on hitting her 2800th find yesterday! A short photo essay on the find: Beginning the quest. The view from the cache. Looking high. Looking low. A heartfelt congratulatory high-five from fisnjack All in good fun. fisnjack coming to help sign the log! Miragee signing the log. Great evening out along the 94 for a few caches provided the back-drop for the milestone. Congrats on the 2800th! Ohh, and for those that are thinking about trying Miragee's newest "History" cache, this photo so you can can get a good look at her should you encounter her on one of your hikes out east, you can THANK her personally for the placement! **DISCLAIMER** Release of liability has not been obtained for these photos.
  4. This just in....... These two are celebrating some sort of Milestone, any guesses? More to follow!!! In congrats thread later for Harmon's photo-shopping pleasure.
  5. If anyone has nothing to do this evening I plan on heading out to the Portrero area and do some caching and if anyone wants to go along to cache or just for fun you are all invited. NO real plans other than to do the two underground caches out there first {let the sun settle a little bit more while we are in the tunnels} and then just drive around nabbing caches like the Stone Ruinations or whatever comes to mind and is in the PQ! Most anything is game, but not really planning on any long walks. It's not planned and there are no set plans for what I am going to do, just an evening drive in the country. If you do go, remember the underground ones may be messy with guano or water, so an extra set of boots/socks would be recommended as well as headlamp/flashlight. I will be leaving my house about 3:30 with Fisnjack and Miragee may meet us at the Honey Springs Road parking area near the 94. So if you are wanting to go, let's say be at the parking there by 4:15ish and we will go from there.
  6. Building on Kit Fox's idea: Maybe two magnets, one attached to the M&M tube bottom and one glued in the bottom of the "Launch Tube". Opposite poles facing each other so when the top of the launch tube is lifted the magnets oppose each other and the M&M tube maglevs out the launch tube. The magnets would have to be fairly strong to repel far enough, rare earth or hard-drive magnets, to launch the M&M tube, yet not too strong to injure? Dunno, just a thought!
  7. I guess the question to pose is: If a gun-toting cacher happens to shoot someone in the forest and there are no muggles to hear it, does it count as a find?
  8. Made the Boulder Creek Road run today and spotted some neat semi-critters! This one near Viejas Mountain -- The Backside: BCR Series, I think it belongs to a funnel spider? maybe. Tapped on its door, but nobody answered! And then this fine example of Freakit'sHotOutHereI'mFrothinAttustheMouthus! Found near Conejos Valley -1st glimps
  9. Total Records: 1970 - Page: 1 of 99; best get busy walking here!
  10. Looks great Harmon! I can't wait to roll up my shirt sleeves later and give it a whirl! Thanks Harmon! As long as you are rolling up your sleeves, don't forget to scrunch down your socks... My wife bought me some special chopped off socks so I don't forget to do that anymore... So she bought some girlie socks that didn't fit her, is that the deal? Nope. Got 'em in the Men's department. All the guys wear them now! Don't they?! Is there a short sock police too? With pink lace around the top, yes indeed. Hmmmmm, do they actually sell men's clothes in that men's department? {Proud wearer of thick burly-man winter socks, no matter the time of the year}{Oh wait, those aren't socks, seems my full body wax is a bit out of date!}
  11. Congrats to Harmon on his 3000, and nice hat by the way! Also to Chuy! on going over 4700.
  12. Sounds good, we'll say a 6PM meet time over at the Visitor's center which is located at the interesection of Mission Gorge Road and Father Junipero Serra Trail; there is a parking area just outside the FJST gate for when they close it. We can walk west and the up the south side of South Fortuna and over to North Fortuna, or whatever you feel like after your day of caching out east. If we go up the Fortunas we should be up there at sunset. Also there was a fire there today, anyone know what if anything may have been affected?
  13. Why not both , I am going up to Oceanside for the events and the caches in the park, leaving about 06:30 from SD and returning about 14:00 or so back this way. Then some dinner and off to MTRP to do "The Adrenaline Cache" near early evening. If you are interested in MTRP, we can walk the ridges of South and North Fortuna after dinner 18:00 start or so. Should be some decent views of the sunset to go along with the hike, if I remember right there is an ocean view from up there.
  14. Awesome, another evening hike is in order! Looks like it will be a Sunday night, maybe something out east county or further into the desert? Just a couple thoughts for now.
  15. Hey! there's the bright-orange or perhaps bright-red color that appeared at the edge of TrailGator's photo. Oboy, oboy ... thanks for the invitation. Looks like some good material for Lesson 16. Not Me! I say it was locusts or possibly Miragee {The Were-With-All } contemplating her next victim from afar and TrailGators just happened to catch it on film. You know it was kinda odd that the trip ended right at 5 mins to midnight !
  16. Seen you ALL drive by, that was awesome, miatas of all colors just kept coming at us as we sat at "Holey Poley"! Some of the pics from the trip: Before sunset; lostguy. Mr. WeWilldo7, Mrs. LLOT, J of J&J, Mrs. WeWillDo7, amd Mr. LLOT. After sunset; Piglit9, Mr. LLOT, TrailGators, lostguy, Mrs. WeWillDo7, J of J&J, and Mr. WeWillDo7.
  17. 6PM meet at the cache "Holey Poley" then? and go from there. There is plenty of parking there; should there be a number of cars we can car pool up to the other trailhead caches to start.
  18. I'm still confused. Did I just miss the final decison about: the day, the time, the location, the meeting spot or teh dinner spot? Not sure if it is finalized other than a night walk up in the Carveacre area starting sometime around 4PM with the possability of dinner beforehand for those who want to eat. Anyhow, I have all the caches up there done and am just going along for some nightime picture opportunities. I do have an SUV, so if parking at the top of Carveacre is a problem, I could shuttle people up from the cache Holey Poley if they want. Has what originally was to be a night hike under a nearly full moon turned into a late afternoon hike beginning at 4pm and likely to conclude before darkness to avoid all the monsters and critters of the night. Bummer. I would have been up for an early dinner and a little later start to add to the experience of hiking in the cooler temperatures and under the cover of darkness. Eerily fun. I think that is what Miragee was actually going for, and I was going to hang around until after dark either way for photos near the wind caves themselves and maybe over near How Many Peaks area. I think a 6ish or so start time would give a better mood for the hike under mostly the moon on the way back from whatever turn-around point is choosen {Chevy No Va?}. The rocks up there should look awesome under the moonlight and for those that have concerns about darkness, it is quite amazing how much can be seen on a moon-lit night once your eyes adjust and you "see" correctly. So I am game either way, but like lostguy would prefer a slightly later start getting mostly moonlight for the hike. But, will be hanging around up there after dark anyhow.

  20. I was going up to Oceanside on Sunday morning to do those two events and some of the caches in the park. If you are interested in a late afternoon/early evening hike into MTRP, I still have to find the Adrenaline cache {snakes should be just getting up about that time } and would be willing to go up and over one or both of the Fortunas with whoever wants to go.
  21. Same here, they sound like very well thought out placements and if the simple removal of a couple items that are not allowed by GC.com guidelines is all that it would take, a compromise may be in order. That section of trail is used by experienced hikers, so for the most part thay would have the knowledge to have these items with them, should they be needed.
  22. I also enjoy the back country hikes and my kit changes from trip to trip, all the stuff listed above are great items to have. 1st thing I pack though is a firm understanding of what my abilities and limitations are; sounds geeky, but with that in mind every hike turns out great.
  23. CamelBak is an option also, not really a manpurse, but they do have a size for any situation possible. As mentioned before they provide the option of having the water inside the carrier for those heavy bush-whack trips to keep anything, like water bottles, from getting hung-up. Downside to them is they are a bit pricey, but worth it. In addition to the CamelBak, I wear on my belt one of the Garmin Universal GPS holders (GPSMap 60 style}, great for quick to get at items; xtra pens, sig. items and such.
