  1. ? ?‍♂️ You got me. When I was taking the time to put out caches, on the forefront of my mind I was thinking... how can I keep some people from finding these things by including a technological glitch that may occur on some old devices that I’m not even aware of. Case closed. Nice sleuthing skills.
  2. Emojis aren’t separate images, they are embedded into the Unicode fonts as standard characters. They are supported by every operating system, browser, phone, Groundspeak app, other apps, etc. Garmin needs to fix their devices to be compatible. Sorry they are giving you trouble.
  3. Yep. I don't want the people who create the tough puzzle caches to know that I've been beating my head against the monitor trying to solve their puzzles for the last 12 months. I'd rather my stupidity remain anonymous.
  4. I personally find this one to be very underrated. Get a hat with a sturdy round brim that goes all the way around your head, similar to the one in Jeff's photograph. It helps with the following: 1) Keeps sun off your face/neck 2) When you walk into spider webs, they hit the brim of your hat, and not your face. 3) When you accidentally brush up against poisonous plants dangling off trees, they are likely to hit your brim and not your face. 4) Ditto for thorns not hitting your face 5) Keeps your hair from getting filled with loose dirt and debris. 6) Keeps rain/snow off of your head.
  5. Like For puzzle caches, I'd give the same advice to someone just starting to find traditional caches. Start off with the easy ones to get the hang of it. D1. When I first spied puzzle caches in my area, I had no idea what to do, but solving the easier ones starts to get you the hang of it and before long you'll be able to start tackling those harder ones.
  6. Agreed. I'd never harass another user about their integrity (what's the point?), but thought I'd share because the photo editing is so bad its funny.
  7. I was looking at one particular virtual cache recently and noticed a recent user's photo which seemed a bit strange. It's a .gif format, not something most camera phones use, and it is clearly photoshopped. Out of curiosity, I clicked on the user's profile and he/she has been jet-setting around the world in the last couple of months during this pandemic finding virtual caches all over the world. Check out these great photo shopping skills... Should this person be reported? For a game based on the honor system, what's the point in lying like this.
  8. Only on rare occasions should you log Needs Maintenance with DNF. If you did not find it, how do you know it needs maintenance?
  9. I was strictly referring to the state of geocaching, not the state of politics. I could fire off a well-reasoned rebuttal, but I think most of us would like to keep politics out of our hobby... Thank you.
  10. Just thought I'd add something interesting about "1 foot accuracy" I've recently done some caches involving Celestial Navigation and was curious about how far a degree/minute/second is. 1 minute of latitude is equal to 1 mile 1 mile is 5280 feet Geocache coordinates are listed out to the 1/1000 place of a minute. 1/1000 * 5280 = 5.3 feet. So it's really only possible to have accuracy within 5 or 6 feet, unless you have geocache coordinates out to more decimal places.
  11. Update: For my issue, I uninstalled and re-installed the app and it seems to have fixed the constant notification issue for now (separate issue than OP, sorry for hijacking the thread)
  12. I'm having the opposite problem. I've got the official app installed on an iphone and on an ipad mini (in case it may have something to do with it). I'm constantly getting message center notifications from conversations that are days old that I have already accessed several times on both devices in hopes of clearing/letting the app know that I've seen the conversation. It's gotten so bad that I will look to disable push notifications altogether, but then I may miss messages.
