  1. We had a great event in Florida as well. Much smaller than many others, but great none the less. I did end up selling the majority of the Florida Edition coins but do have a limited few for sale. I'm not interested in trading for every other version, so please don't get offended when I decline any trade offers. Paypal only, $11 each, $3.50 S/H in US and $5 international. Please contact me through my profile for my paypal address if interested.
  2. Send me your address and I'll get one in the mail to you. It was made for an event in Florida though, not Afghanistan. If you can overlook that small minor detail then I'm sure you will enjoy the coin. BTW, Thanks for your service!
  3. been awhile since I've browsed the TB forums... here's mine that I got for my forty- something-th birthday in July...
  4. unauthorized vendor? I'm not sure why my post got edited. It wasn't like I was a walking billboard for anyone. I was only pointing out a geocaching personal trackable that under the current guidelines is considered a geocoin that is offered for sale to geocachers which helps promote geocaching. I guess this is a clear case of I should be careful of whose toes I step on today because they could be attached to the reviewer you're kissing to make up with tomorrow! well, you get the picture... my intention was not to promote anyone, I was mearly discussing trackables* that are in the market for geocachers to enjoy. * trackable on gc.com with a unique icon, which also brings up the question, How can someone not be an approved vendor if they have many items that support and promote gc.com? gc.com supports the product in some way or another because gc.com is printed all over many of the products for sale through them. ************************************************** back on topic, I think you found the answer to your question boils down to the cost of having a coin minted. I also went for the whole shooting match this time around. I hired an artist who made my idea come to life and minted the coin with all the bells and whistles... multi level 3D, shaped, trackable, icon...ect,ect,ect... it was quite pricey after I figured up the final cost per coin including the designer fees, but well worth it in the end. Would I do it over again? certainly, but only for commercial coin purposes, not for a personal... another personal would probably come in the form of something much easier on the pocketbook...
  5. well, I just had a personal produced that was at least 2-3 years in the making. I think it boils down to the sluggish economy for the most part, as to why they aren't produced the way they once were. let's face it, producing a coin is essentially done with someones disposable funds and there isn't as much of that as there once was for most folks. Giving that statement, the obvious solution would be to reduce the cost of making a personal geocoin. Making group coins like drneal suggests does have a certain appeal to it... they aren't as expensive and have always seemed to do well. so that may be a small solution to your question. Also as caching grows and evolution takes it's course, many feel geocoins have seen their day in the sun and cost too much to put in caches only to be stolen after a 3 cache/50 mile journey. and as much as the lilypad tries to ignore those little pathtag thingies, it has grown into the trade item of choice by many cachers and anyone can make approximately 12-15 different tag designs for the same cost of your average coin these days. I did mention a couple years ago after the alluminum micro compass tag came out that if marketed the right way, I could see alluminum tags becoming the personal coin of yesterday... geoswag has done alot with the alluminum tag idea by offering them with a unique icon for each design, but they never became as personable as I had thought back then with anyone else but the folks at the lilypad. I have seen several lackeys that have personal tags which again, is much cheaper than a coin. hell, Geico even went the alluminum tag route... I think if any *personal trackables could be kept under the $5 range and they aren't obligated to buy a minimum order of 100 or so* , then your average cacher would show interest in it, even if it were a group coin project... *non-approved vendor removed by moderator* bottom line is, I wouldn't expect the personal coin craze to come back to even a fraction of what it used to be anytime soon... folks don't have the extra funds and the market has alot more to offer these days at cheaper prices...
  6. That's a good idea! I hadn't thought about a leap year group coin project, but I did think about a "12-21-12 - End of the World" multi event coin... It could be too close to 12-12-12 to gain any support though. I'd consider a Feb 29th project...
  7. wow, that's quite a lunch tab! Honestly, I went away a bit disappointed with the small selection of coins that were available, and those that were available didn't impress me as much as past GCF coins did. I had earmarked $1000 spending money and spent roughly $200, mostly on geocaches and acessories from GxProxy (that included lunch too!) I did make several really cool trades though! All in all a great event, just not as many coins as I expected... I ended up with 11 new coins and 93 new pathtags... ...now if I could have talked Moun10Bikeinto selling me that first coin of his, I'm sure I would have come home broke!
  8. under the current blanket catagorizing of geocaching trackables... my personal Nomads are considered geocoins. They are trackable and have a unique icon on GC.com They are not metal, clay, glass, leather or cloth so I guess they classify more as a personal trackable because of the PVC plastic material they are made of. BTW, soon metal coins very simular to this design will also start circulating and they also will be trackable with a unique icon, so technically although the designs are simular, the materials to make them are very different, so calling them both "geocoins" could become "coin" fusing....
  9. I'm not positive and only taking a guess here, but it looks like the ships wheel spins behind the pirate image... or vice versa...
  10. wow! a definite must have! great design!
  11. awesome design... hope to have an opportunity to obtain one when they are available....
  12. This is not my first multi-event (we've been participants since 8/8/8). This is not the first time I have received trade/purchase requests months before one of my events. It is your choice to offer your coins as you wish, just as it is my choice to let our event attendees have first dibs. We usually sell out of our event coins, so I find it unfair to our event attendees to make the coins available to non-attendees, nor can I afford to purchase a bunch of surplus coins to trade. I would not like to learn that I could not purchase a coin at an event that I attended because the host sold some coins to folks that never intested to attend the event. I choose to not put my attendees thru that. So, I do not think we (those who have requested "no more trade/purchase" requests) are over-reacting by posting our intent. I have received more than 3 requests, and not all of them were from other event hosts. I don't really like explaining myself over and over to those sending the requests. I am going to edit my event page to state that they are first and foremost for our event attendees. That might help prevent some of the requests...however, not everyone visits the event page to contact us, that is why we posted what we did here. well said! ...my sentiments exactly!
  13. oh my! my set arrived in Florida today and I was able to get them before Mrs. LL got to them! I still haven't had any luck getting my original one back from her... it is one of her favorite necklaces now! I'll have to put these in my coin binder before she gets home and maybe they will be hid until the next event I haul them to before she realizes I got them! ...then I'll act innocent and tell her she has already seen them! another great job Steph!
  14. I don't mean to sound rude to anyone, but I tell it like it is... if you see it as rude, you are entitled to your opinion... <rant> Could some of you please quit emailing me and asking to trade coins? I opted out of the host trade because I have no desire to have every version of this coin that will be produced. I realize some of you do and that is fine. AFTER my event is OVER and IF I have coins left, I will gladly come here to the forums and let everyone know that I have "x" amount available FOR SALE. I hate to repeat myself but I am not interested in TRADING for every version available. If you feel you MUST have my version WHEN and IF it is available, I will SELL any extras to any other host for exact cost to produce the coin + shipping. If you are not a host and want one the price will be $11+S&H, but hosts will have the first option to buy them. </rant> THANK YOU VERY MUCH, JB
  15. Good timing on your update request. I just got word about 10 minutes ago that they are finished and are getting shipped out this week. I should hopefully have them sometime early next week. I hope to have some on ebay for sale shortly after that. serious? ...why ebay? ...are these going to be made available to purchase anywhere else? ...cool coin and I'd love to purchase one, but if buying from ebay is the only option, it will keep me from doing so...
  16. I believe Dale and Barb are doing one marked down as "space coast of Florida(central)" tho it does not look like the event is posted yet. Not that I can see. Thank you for the response. I hope to see their event. There are actually 3 Florida events that will have a unique coin... Along with the one mentioned, I'll be hosting one and Scificollector is hosting one as well
  17. inquiring minds will want to know.... does it have a unique icon?
  18. very nice, I'll keep my eye on this one!
  19. I have a CinemaBoxers "MCRmy" version I have no use for if someone wants to offer up a trade for... CinemaBoxers anything is just a bad memory for me. ~J already have one in my collection along with 20 others... thanks though, maybe someone else may want it. It's a good looking coin.
  20. after receiving the "best of the Bad" guitar this week and adding it to my collection, it stirred up some memories and desire for a new batch of guitars. I wonder if dragging out an old thread would renew any interest and get Chris and Helen at Landsharkz interested in possibly going on tour with these again, this was an awesome group coin project. If not, just ignore me and I'll go back to my corner and lurk for a bit longer... It never hurts to ask, right?
  21. If anyone would like to make 25 or 50 more coins available to Oakcoins, I believe they will trade on your behalf. More information to come. this sounds like a good idea if it is done properly... I am sure some folks that will want every version available, however I am not one of those folks and really have no desire to trade for all 30-40-50 versions. I also don't want folks mad when I tell them I'm not interested in trading or don't have them available to trade. However if Oakcoins wants to produce the extra coins for the PARTICIPATING HOSTS that want my version then I'd be ok with that providing they don't offer them to be available to the mass geocoin population
  22. Yeah... they're great looking coins, but the $23US pricetag (then figure shipping from CZ) is a bit steep... jmho ~J yep, I was ready to purchase as well, but the price was a total turn off... just can't see paying that price for a coin. good luck with them elsewhere though... maybe someone will be willing to pay that price for them...
  23. The second half of our team quickly came up with this follow-up: Geocoinfucious says man who lose watch in toilet gets s***ty time. lol, don't get me started! geocoinfucious say crowded elevator always smell different to midget!
  24. this is something I suggested a couple years ago when folks complained about missing/stolen coins and all the alluminum tags started saturating the market. I still think it's a good idea. and would ensure that good quality proxies were in the game. However with any good idea, you need someone to lead the way and set the standard and become the trailblazer. afterwards, if it gets good feedback, the rest will follow.... Who better than a Lion to lead the way?? Charge!! lol, I was refering to a coin vendor leading the way...They have the means and support... I think maybe oakcoins is in the best position for doing so. Seems they come out with as many new alluminum tags as they do geocoins. If they offered an alluminum tag that resembles the coin,(same icon, same tracking code) then I'm sure it would boost coin activation and tag release... Like many I'm sure, I'd be willing to set the $3 tags free, but the $12 coin is going to stay safe in my collection.
