  1. OK, this might be pie-in-the-sky thinking but I'm wondering if we could get sneeky about this. How about a Seal of Approval? I'm not sure how to implement it, but my thinking goes something like this: if it meets agreed upon criteria, which there seems to be about 3 basics, then when a coin is offered for sale, it could say it has the stamp/ seal of approval. Like the Good Housekeeping Seal, or the UL, or even the movie rating board (pg-13 coins, anyone ) Personally, I like pretty hunks of metal with paint and as one very new to geocaching, I don't know who is genuine and who is a sock puppet, meaning someone could be around for years and I wouldn't know it, yet you all know who's who. So, short of someone posting what is considered negative post in a selling thread, something like this could potentially cut down on the angst. Any thoughts? Looking for thumbs up, thumbs down, not logistics concerns just yet. Cheers, nooks
  2. I don't want to see people who bring up legitimate concerns being labeled "the bad guys." Others would argue that it is the opinion of a few, a very vocal few. Maybe this has been done before but I was hopping for a definitive thread that you could point people to. That way you're not creating the angst, your pointing out an opinion that has been discussed and is shared by many. It gives it more weight, I hope, especially to new people who are coming in. Of course, many people will still do what they want regardless. And with that in mind, would it be possible to start a list of the regional coins(including state coins) that groups have produced vs individuals. Does anyone see the needs for this? Cheers, nooks
  3. Forget Geocoins, its all about the GeoBLING! OK, now I have to ask, WHY? Unless it was for Marky's birthday, which is next weekend, I think. GO BLING! (...wait...that's not a football team!) Cheers, nooks
  4. Not interested in the angst. More interested in solving a problem and as alway, thanks for your input. I saw a thread started by someone looking for a state coin. Is there a list somewhere of regional coins put out by committee? If not perhaps one should be started?
  5. This conversation was started on a selling thread and I wanted to take it more generally. I have seen concerns when someone comes out with a coin as to what it actually represents; is it a personal coin, with no input from a larger community, or a group coin, with input ad infinitum. Recently, we've had two people from my area sell coins that were labeled "area coins" but had no input from a larger group representing the area. TBTB are not interested in addressing this as Hula Bum eloquently points out: And my thought was for the people that DO care. A thread was started recently asking about a particular state coin. What does that mean? A state coin that was designed by a group or a person? Does anyone even care? I would really like to know. Cheers, nooks
  6. I don't want to hijack Castlemans, thread, so I'll start another one to pursue some ideas. Good luck, Castleman! Cheers, nooks
  7. You know, I never thought much about "What the coin represents" further than, as Castleman put it, this is super cool trackable 3-D coin that's cheap. I'm saving them for traveling outside CA. I remember the first coin I found in a cache, it was an Anthus coin. I thought how cool is this! I read a log yesterday from a couple who've been caching for awhile and found their first coin and they sounded pretty excited about it. I want to put more coins out but they are getting sooo pricey. This fit my requirements. Kealia, I have seen you post your concerns regarding this subject quite often and I wonder if TPTB could address them. They are legitimate concerns and I know many people support them. Perhaps, a different thread to "take a pulse" could be started, or a definitive answer could be had from TPTB. I have to wonder why they haven't addressed it yet. Cheers, nooks
  8. Does this mean I get another guess?
  9. Well, I STILL think it's a good guess, I think Nielsonc must be wrong
  10. I have a request. I would like to see mini dog tags. I have a few TB's that I want to send out, but the dog tag is just too big. I ended up drilling out a micro generic coin and attaching it. Still, I would rather not do that given the loss rate for coins. Where can I post this request. Cheers, nooks
  11. 7 inches 7 MM 32 OZ That would be some brass
  12. 2nd guess 3.25 inches 5 mm 4 oz
  13. It can be a few less clicks if you're using Firefox. Install Greasemonkey, then install the plugin from this page: Groundspeak Forum Enhancements I've had it installed for quite some time. What's really nice is it also gives a better indicator if you've posted in certain threads. Thanks for this! Sorry, Hula Bum, I guess I wasn't paying much attention to anything other than the coin forum before I became a premium . ...and then one day, when I'd read all the coin posts, I discovered a whole different world out there... Cheers, nooks
  14. what coin would you give away? I gave away a few coins on NYE and Team Chelmo and Vegas both won them. BTW, I posted them today. Please let me know when you get them. ...and now back to our regularly scheduled program
  15. Why look who's posting to this thread! I almost feel an itch to giveaway a coin! Cheers, nooks
  16. well I guess that makes you silly....girl!
  17. First guess: 3.25 inches 4mm 5 oz
  18. Anybody want to do a lurkers coin? You would have to be a member for 6 months and have less than 10 posts
  19. And now for something completely different:
  20. I didn't know they were trackable! Dang if I'd known that, my trackables list would be enormous! Cheers, nooks
  21. Great coin and a wonderful contest idea. I don't suppose you could design it with a hole to attach a travel tag? Cheers, nooks PS. Got your addy and thanks, Team Chelmo. Your coin will be in the mail tomorrow. I guess we'll have to open a thread so I'll know when you get it. ..and now back to our regularly scheduled programing....
  22. The site that I know of is "coin tracking". Many people have lists on that site for trackable and nontrackable coins. You can do a search for this site (I don't want to offend any pasta persons that might be lurking ). Or you can post what you want to trade for on the thread at the top of Geocoin Discussions forum. One can trade untrackables, just not sell them on this site as I understand it, Them's the rules..... Cheers, nooks
