  1. I haven't been getting mine either. I'm not a Roadrunner. How do I find out if my ISP is blocking them. Not too computer literate. J.O. Cacheola Crew
  2. Add me to the list, although I am in the same area as Darlene. Janine
  3. Just a plug for the Hampton Roads Geocaching group, that was formed this summer. Though our primary members are in the Hampton Roads area, we welcome cachers from all over Virginia and Northern NC, or anyone who may come to these areas on vacation, etc, to find caches. 10. It's slow around our area, cause Isabel ruined a lot of caches and also closed a bunch of parks. 11. I always log the find, then send the email. I didn't know there were cache owners that required you to wait! Never had a problem with any of the cache owners of virtuals that we've found. 12. Well, we only have two, but I think my favorite is Hampton Roads Hot Potato because he was the victim of a plundering, but was rescued, repaired and is still going strong. My son has Geo-Jaguar which is a very well-travelled one, currently in Wales One of my favorites that we've found is Cheeky the Geo-Monkey. He was the very first travel bug we ever found and he "talks" to you on his TB page. Also has a cool links to his "cousin" bugs that are in a race. 13. quote:Also who is going to be brave enough to post the 1st essay? Some might say that the best strategy would be to post at the last minute...but is it really? If you post early you give the others ideas to go from. At the same time if you post early and the others try to steal your ideas...how does that make them look? Why not have them all send their essay to you and then post them all at the same time? 14. One year ago today, we found our first cache. We found about caching through two different sources. One was a mention of it on a Cub Scouting e-group I am on. I thought it sounded interesting, but at the time put it on the back burner. Then, one day shortly afterwards friends of ours who live in Indiana called us and said, "We did something cool today". They told us all about their afternoon of geocaching. I am a fan of the Amazing Race and this really sounded like it had some elements of that. So I signed onto the site, registered, and the next day my two boys and I went to find our first cache without a GPS. Luckily, the map was pretty accurate. A few weeks later we had our GPS. 15. Wow! This just happens to be our one year caching anniversary! Things for us are pretty much the same. We try not to pay too much attention to forum hubbubs. Our approver has always been fair and impartial. One thing that has changed is the formation of our local group, which has added another "social" element to the game. Also, Hurricane Isabel changed some of the places we can currently go locally to hunt. 17. A non-cacher found my cache, Heron View, by accident while looking for a hiking stick. It was interesting because he was afraid it was some kind of amunition since it was near an Army base, and so he took most of the contents out, including the log book. The next cacher found it plundered. So, I went out to retrieve it and lo, and behold, it was back in place with all the items returned. The man wrote a nice log entry of how he had gone through the stuff at home and figured out what it was. He also put some really cool commemortive coins and medallions from the local Naval Shipyard (and also some pocket knives...the nerve!). I really need to retrieve the log book and type up his log entry in the online logbook. 18. I think that the approvers have every right to use an anonymous name, just as we do. Remember, this is a public site. You do not have to be a member to surf here. Perhaps these VOLUNTEERS would rather not have their real full name and location posted for just anyone to see. BTW, if you ever deal with AOL, all the volunteer moderators have fake AOLnames, something like HOSTJane and similar. They do not use their regular AOL screen name when performing their moderating duties. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Geocaching-HamptonRoadsVA/join "You have brains in your head; You have feet in your shoes. 19. Where I live there are: 240 caches within a 100 mile radius 8 caches within a 5 mile radius 40 caches within a 20 mile radius (unfortunately, due to Hurricane Isabel about 10 of them are out of service) j.o. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Geocaching-HamptonRoadsVA/join "You have brains in your head; You have feet in your shoes. 20. How do you go about getting a link to your geocaching group listed on the state page (under the license plate). I noticed some on other state pages. Does it have to be a "State" group or can it be regional. I believe there are several regional ones in VA. 21. As Deskjockey mentioned, Lucky Sevens Geocache is on a ski slope. (the December 30th entry is very interesting). We went there this summer, however, and there is no charge to get into the resort area and also no charge to hike up the ski slopes. We did choose to spend money to ride the ski lift up and take the slide back down, but it is not a necessity. This would be different in the winter, however, cause it would seem that you would have to spend the money to get to it. We enjoyed this one very much though. Hope you get yours placed.
