  1. Be sure you hit the "show all logs" button before using your browsers "find" function that was suggested in the first reply. Using the find function is good for if you are planning on going after a locationless cache, but you don't know the coordinates before going out and finding it. (example:You may know there is a castle at a certain location, but you don't know the coords. So, you enter Virginia and you will get all castles logged in VA) The only bad thing about using the find function is that not everyone puts the name of the state in their log. Or some logs have the name and some have the two-letter state abbreviation. I usually check both ways, but VA pulls up a whole lot of other words too! Cacheola Crew Mom
  2. Okay PStar, we are both at the starting line! A classic North Vs. South battle. Cacheola Crew Mom
  3. I agree with this (having the CITO info go on the cache page...anonymously). But I had to vote NO in the poll the way it is listed now, cause I don't like the idea of CITO logs "credited" to individual cachers for reasons folks have already listed. Cacheola Crew Mom
  4. I think you should log the DNF and your log should reflect the reason you didn't find it. The owner has the option of emailing you to get more details before he makes a run out to his cache. By emailing you, he may be able to determine if you were even in the right area. Cacheola Crew Mom
  5. The "Look-up/email another player function" is great. Using that is a lot easier than the old way, where you had to put the person's name in the caches found by box, then click on there last caches found and then click on their profile. With the new function it is just one step to be able to email them, and two steps, to see what a friend has been up to. I also like the "Search for Nearest cache" function. The only thing I don't like (and I guess it's already been mentioned) is the fact that you can no longer get a one-line-per-cache list of all the logs all on one page. Now, you either get only 15 logs on the main page, OR if you go to the Geocaches tab and hit list caches you have found, you have to scroll through pages and pages of them. I much preferred the quick overview of the old page. If you take out the "you found...you made a note" part and just use the icons, will it be possible to just get the one-line listing all on one page again (one that includes DNF's?)? Thanks! 6. Geo-jaguar had his first birthday on January 7th and still going strong. Has travelled over 24,000 miles and is now in New Zealand.
  7. We are a family of four that caches under the Cacheola Crew handle. However, Cacheola Dad goes on deployments, and so he created "Cacheola" just for his solo finds. When we are together, there is just one log under the team name and any finds that are under his name are ones that no other team members were with him. Cacheola Crew Mom
  8. I like the "leave something that you would like to find rule". BTW, kids often gravitate towards things that are less than $1.00 sometimes. My boys favorites to find in a cache: hot wheels cars (approx $.88), little plastic animals, frogs or lizards (approx $.30) and even (GASP!) the dreaded McToys (in the original packaging, of course). 11. I'm kind of bothered by my sons' willingness to come up with "cover stories" and the speed in which they do it. Today we found a cache and there just happenned to be a "kite festival" going on in the nearby field. As we snuck off to the wooded area, my son said, "If anyone wants to know what we are doing, we can tell them we are looking for our kite!" Cacheola Crew Mom
  12. The Hampton Roads VA Welcome Wagon should be there tommorrow!
  13. oooohhh Northern VA challenging SouthEast VA....should be a good race. Let us know your TB name when it's entered, so we can follow its progress and see how far ahead we are.
  14. Soooo, I showed you mine, you show me yours....
  15. Sure, check out this mean, orange machine. Hampton Roads VA Welcome Wagon Catch us if you can! Cacheola Crew Mom for the Geocaching Hampton Roads VA Group
  16. What group are you with? Cacheola Crew Mom
  17. Okay, so Virginia is here in the Northeast forum, and so fellow "northeasterners", I'd like to know if any of you that have groups have considered entering a "group" TB in the cannonBall run? See info here: http://www.ny-geocaching.org/cannonballrun/rules.php The Hampton Roads VA Yahoo Group is entering one, and would love to compete against you guys. Trying to talk a couple other groups into doing it as well, for a little regional competition. There's only a week or so to enter the race though. hurry! Janine Cacheola Crew Virginia
  18. I watched the clip. Too bad the anchor also mentioned right at the beginning "the name of their game is BURIED treasure." The reporter also said "And it could actually be BURIED in here?" I'm sure he was talking about buried in snow, but it probably would appear to non-cachers that cachers could be buried. The "buried" misconception about geocaching seems to pop up in every kind of article/news segment. Cacheola Mom
  19. The Geocaching Hampton Roads VA group has a couple of members who are going to try it. We are not sure about whether or not we will be successful. We also have some deployed members who are also going to try and hook up from overseas. Here's our event's page: HR Duck Inn-side Travel Bug Exchange
  20. I like Sax's idea. You are still relying on the Cache owners to rate it, but you are just giving them a little reminder. Are you sure??? Cacheola Crew Mom
  21. My son has Geo-jaguar who made it overseas and is now in New Zealand, after visting several other countries Since Geo-jaguar started in Virginia, we thought it would be neat if it came back to California and then worked it's way back to us, cause then it would have gone "round the world". 22. Looks like we've got a couple of people from our group who are willing to try it. Keep us posted. Janine
