  3. I have a palm Z22 and have cachemate installed on it. When I go to download from GSAK to cachemate when I do the hotsync it is interupted and says "HotSync Error: An application cancelled sychronization or failed to respond to a HotSync notification. Please ensure that you are not currently editing data using applications such as Palm OS Desktop or Install Tool. (8009). What gives I dont understand this. All programs are closed.
  4. I had the same problems. Download GSAK to any folder other than program files. There is something about the Vista program security settings that messes with GSAK. Go to the GSAK web sight forums for some good info.
  5. I have the Windows Vista program. I loaded GSAK into my documents folder instead of the programs file folder. It made a difference, something to do with the new program security. At first GSAK was giving me all kinds of problems. Works good now. If you go to the GSAK forums sight there is good info on dealing with the new Vista program.

  7. I was out at the Yellow Water complex across from Cecil Field in Jacksonville Fl. This is a somewhat remote wooded area. As I was walking down a dirt road coming out at dusk,I saw a police car pull up behind my car and run the tag. A young kid gets out and asks what am I doing out here. I responded"looking for hookers". Wasn't expecting that answer! I have very little love for the police; but I did proceed to tell him what I was up to. He looked at me like yea right. I did show him my GPS and PDA, he seemed satisfied and moved on.
  8. Down to $105 plus shipping. Just bought an explorist 400.
  9. I have an explorist 200 for $80 which is slightly less then new in excellent shape.
  10. I am trying to download way points to my explorist 400 using gsak and seem to be having a lot of trouble. I try "sending to the gps" and also try exporting to explorist with no luck . Any suggestions?
  11. Both of these units are in excellent shape, slighty less than new. The Venture comes with an automount, serial cable and car power cord-$110.00 plus shipping. The explorist again excellent shape-80.00 plus shipping. The only reason I'm letting these go is I just bought an explorist 400 and have an explorist 100 for hunting. I can be contacted at flteng@comcast.net
  12. I am looking for info on how to adopt someones cahes. The member has moved and instead of archiving them he asked me if I would be interested in adapting them. So how do I do it?
  13. Dropping the price on the extrex venture to $125.00 with accessories.
  14. US Navy 1981 to present. Attached to VP-49, VP-30, VP-62, VP-92, Reserve ASW Training Center and VP-30 a second time. Was a ground pounder then went aircrew.
  15. I was comparing my explorist to an etrex side by side and noticed that the etrex bearing needle lagged behind when trying to find a cache with a waypoint selected. The explorist bearing needle moved steadily where as the etrex took a long time to move when I changed direction. Anyone experienced this problem, is it normal?
  16. This unit comes with the automount and the car charger which retail for $70 if someone is interested make an offer we'll talk.
  17. I just got an Extrex Venture and its not going to fit my needs, so I'm putting it up for sale. It's new, tried it out once around the block. Comes with the serial cable, auto mount and car charger cord, also new still in the package. $155.00+ shipping accept paypal or if you are in the Jax Fl area its avail. for inspection. I can be contacted at flteng@comcast.net
  18. I've been geocaching for a short time and would like to know this. Why is it desirable to have a gps that downloads maps? So long as the spots are marked like on an explorist 100 or extrex why would you need a map or more than a base map?
  19. I have used both brands ,(etrex, legend and explorist ) I find that Magellan gets much better reception under cover. I use it (explorist 100)while hunting and it works very well in just about any environment that I'm in. So many folk here seem to use Garmins, so I'm wondering if I'm missing something. Your thoughts?
  20. While searching for an ammo box at an Army /Navy store on Blanding Blvd in Jacksonville Fl. I ran into Georgia Walnut and Georgia Peanut, totally by chance. I was telling the store clerk what I was doing with the ammo box and they overheard me and said they also geocached. I had a very enjoyable conversation with them. So the moral of this story is, while your hanging around the ammo boxes look around you, you meet the nicest people. This store has plenty of small ammo boxes, I believe they were 2.99 each.
  21. I took a trip out to osceola national forest this morning. Prior to going out there I loaded from the goggleearth map some GPS coordinates in my explorist 100. I discovered upon arrival that the position I plugged in was further east than I actually was. While I was there I saved some way points then went back into goggle earth and tried locating the points. Upon locating the coordinates for each poi, my coordinates were further west according to goggle earth than they were. I took a reading were a major road and creek cross then located the coordinates on google earth. My location IAW goggle earth was west of the spot I marked. I have used this same GPS to GEOCASH using other peoples GPS coordinates and the get me with in feet of the cach. In one case I was 4 ft away. Any input would be appreciated
  22. I have a chance to get an explorist 300. I have done some research and this does not seem to be a popular model. Opinions on this model or magellan?
