  1. quote:Originally posted by Ce'Nedra:I was 2nd finder to that cache, its only 90 feet from the car, so i made a run for it, and it was easy to find. It was 100 feet for us. We had to make a 10 foot circle around the two "cache guards" you see in the picture we posted to the log :-) Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  2. quote:Contact the owner to find out if they have permission. Some people do have it. Ok, but if they do indeed have permission, how does that permission then apply to people hunting the cache? Seemed to rather rile the cop today, fortunately we were in the car pulling back out on the street, rather than parked and out of the car . No amount of "permission" that the cache owner has is easily verified. "Sure officer, the guy that put the box here has permission, I don't know his name, and I don't know his number, and you can email him at this website before pressing charges" doesn't work in most cases I think... 3. What's the best way to handle these? Notify the owner? Notify the Admins? Just hope the owner does the right thing? http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cachelog_details.asp?start=&L=1873508&ID=290694&decrypt= Just wondering the "right" thing to do. Actually drew the attention of the local constabulatory doing this one today.
  4. quote:I want to know who uses the in-dash GPSr in thier 4x4 to find a geocache. Not an in-dash, but a StreetPilot III. It tends to ge a bit confused with the off-road part. Best one so far was it taking me to within 200 feet of a cache. Only problem was that it was 200 feet horizontally.. but 800 feet vertically up a sheer rock face ! 5. Ignore them. Common ploy for people trying to circumvent eBay controls, and many are not reputable. If you want to have real fun, report them to eBay as it's a violation of their terms of service. As with anything else, a deal that's "too good to be true" usually is. 6. That's just north of me.. I'll pick it up and place it south (in VA) if you need... and of course, maintain it from there. Just drop an email. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  7. I disagree with the cache, in that it's possible that it could take days to get the last parts. Given schedules, emergencies, life in general, it's always possible to be indisposed for a week or two. Creates a "false sense" that it can be easily completed in two days. 8. Thanks... I'm sure the last stage is correct, as it was a calculated accumulation of info from 4 previous stages, and the last had me at a designated place as was described in the cache description looking for the last part. Co-ordinates were dead on, so I believe this location was by design, and indeed correct.. Without giving away the cache, it was a multi-stage virtual with the last and final stage requiring obtaining a date off a stone marker that could only be read by stopping and exiting the car to view. calculated co-ordinates put me at the marker, so I'd venture to say it was correct. All the previous stages were similar in design, but all had ample, safe parking at them or nearby. While maybe fine for some, we exclusively cache with three children ages 10, 11, and 14, so safety is always a concern.
  9. I'd like an opinion here... If you got to the final point of a multi-stage cache, only to find that it's on the edge of the shoulder on a heavily trafficked 55mph 4 lane road, would you consider it safe? If not, what would you do? I'm just curious. Struck me as a bit unsafe for many, but just may be a personal opinion. I'd appreciate others thoughts. Dropped a note to the cache owner, as I personally wasn't impressed. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  10. It also depends on how quicky you send the check to the approvers. You did send the check, didn't you? (grin) Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  11. None of the responses even mention that to a certain extent, this could be an additional source of income for the NPS to boot. Considering many NPS areas are "Fee" areas, I know that I would splurge the $50 annual fee for the access pass that would allow me to escape the fee. Actually, I buy one annually anyway, but it's that much more incentive. And I'd have to agree with BrianSnat. I can pay $70 annually for an Off-Road permit to drive my diesel 4x4 offroad on NPS property... and do so almost weekly.. Geocaching is more environmentally damaging than that?? Come on now.. 12. Lyme disese from a tick bite for me :-( Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  13. I have to agree with Renegade Knight.. Put 'em up for adoption and go on your way. Drama is for Soap Operas. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  14. Works fine for me. I have it in the garmin case, with the lanyard attached to the point you're talking about (there's a hole in the case for it. I have been known however to clip the belt clip to my baseball cap so as to keep it level and hold lock :-) Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  15. "Does enyone know if the Copperhead gives any kind of a warning before striking?" No siree.... they just cop an attitude and bite. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  16. Have a buddy two weeks ago in his own back yard, after enjoying a few cold ones, saw a snake slithering through the grass. He decided that it would be cool to catch it. He spent 3 days in intensive care from a copperhead bite. This in a suburban subdivision in VA. Hey, I didn't say he was bright :-) Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  17. Getting this intermittently.. Thought you'd like to know. Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server error '80004005' Transaction (Process ID 60) was deadlocked on lock resources with another process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction. /track/track_logs.asp, line 144 Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  18. Outdoors? What's outdoors? I'm a computer geek, I don't think I'm allowed out there! :-) Seriously... we're into RV'ing, so we can go to strange and exotic places... and geocache! Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  19. Just wanted to post a word of warning to anyone considering caching in the Cape Henlopen State Park area. While it's a great park, and certainly full of caches, it's also very infested with ticks. My daughter and I were diagnosed with the beginning stages of Lyme infection as a result of tick bites we received while caching in the state park the middle of last month. While I certainly realize that ut could happen anywhere, I just wanted to post a word of warning to others that may be considering these caches to be especially careful and take all precautions you can.. Please take extra precautions that you don't come home with something other than a McToy!. Regards, Roger Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  20. At 250cc, I believe that he's thinking something in the Vespa type/style, rather than a Razor on steroids :-) Costco here was selling new ones in the $800 range for a short period, long enough for all the spoiled kids areound here to get them for presents and terrorize the roads with them, but I think they were smaller than 250cc. 21. We have a SPIII for the car, and a Vista for the trail. Between the two of them and some computer savvy, if we can't find it, it's probably not there. Personally, love the combination. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  22. Renegade Knight, Don't blame Garmin for the cost of their upgrades. You have to realize that the Maptech data is licensed, and Garmin pays a per-copy charge. Unless you want to show documentation that they get it next to free, I'll personally lay $ on the fact that the largest portion of the upgrade costs go for the licensing fees. It's not all their fault, it's just everyone trying to get a piece of the pie. Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
  23. This is sold. Thanks for looking! Sometimes a majority only means that all the fools are on the same side
