I got burned the same way. Thought that the City Select that came with my StreetPilot would work with my Vista.
Looked at the replacement, and for me Roads and Recreation was the better choice. Metroguide however are more "accurate". R&R had more of the smaller streets in my area that Metroguide did not, however there's an accuracy skew of 30 feet or so. If I set a waypoint at my front door, City Select puts it on the map where it's supposed to be, but R&R puts it about 30' up the street.
R&R has more of the small streets in rural areas, plus streams, etc so I felt it was the better choice.
