  1. Just wondering if there is a reference or "phone book" for Geocachers using Skype? I have three geocaching friends who use Skype, and find it handy to discuss geocaching topics. Not only can we talk for free, but at the same time we can direct each other to websites, help each other with problems encountered, etc. (I thought of setting up a "Newbie Skype Hotline" for my area, so that newbies can ring, and get info on problems they're having - the program even has a remote access type mode, so that not only can you talk and walk them through their query, you can actually do it for them while they watch on their screen! ) So back to the original question.... Is there a way I can find other Geocachers on Skype?
  2. Many thanks briansnat, I had a feeling it would be something easy that I'd missed.
  3. Can someone please point me in the right direction on how to edit a link in a post? I think I worked out how to add a link in my post, (cut and paste web address), but I don't seem to be able to to edit the link name. I've seen some postings that say "check here", and the word 'here' is the actual link. When I add the link, it comes up as the actual address. Am I adding the link the right way? An example: This is one of my caches...... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...07-56619108b0cf but I'm lost as to how to edit it and rather than have a large address, I'd like to put something like "check mine", and have it go to that address. ANY help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers,
  4. Thanks for the info/advice to those that posted replies. Will check that out and see if it makes a difference. Cheers 2 StarBrand
  5. Help! I recently went on a trip to my home town to see my brother and grab a few caches whilst there. Took said brother out with his Garmin GPS12, and had my Garmin GPS60. Plugged same CoOrds into both units, but his GZ was exactly 200m from my GZ. We tried another cache and, after loading in same CoOrds, came up 200m out again. I knew mine was correct because cache was easily located. What am I missing here? His unit is set to WSG84 datum, could this be the source of the error? Or is it something else in the settings. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers,
  6. Thanks to all for the input, comments, and views. I find it hard to try and determine whether something is wheelchair accessible, as basically, I have no experience of wheelchairs. I generally err on the side of caution and make it a rating of 1.5, but then I feel like I'm being discriminatory towards wheelchair users. But then I don't want to say something is wheelchair accessible, and then have the person suffer frustration in not being able to get to it. Again, thanks to all for the input.
  7. Looking for clarification on the wheelchair attribute. I recently hid a cache, and was a bit stumped on whether to add the wheelchair accessible attribute to the page. The cache is hidden at the base of a tree, about a metre away from a concrete path, which one could easily get to in a wheelchair (flat terrain). However, cacher would have to get on the ground and reach into the base of the tree to retrieve said cache. Does this constitute a wheelchair accessible cache? Are there any written criteria for how to judge a wheelchair accessible cache? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers,
  8. One last thing, how do I close this topic/thread?
  9. No. It would have to be at least .1 mile away from both stages for it to be published. Does that mean I'd have to have the cache page re-reviewed? (providing it's more than .1 mile away) Or could I just add the waypoint to the notes section of the cache page? Caches generally aren't re-reviewed. As I now understand this you are not listing a new cache, you are simply adding an alternate starting point. The alternate starting point will still have to conform to the guidelines. You do not have to submit it to the review process, but if you mess up and place the the other starting point too close to an existing cache you may get your cache archived if it's caught by a reviewer. So yes, you can add that new waypoint (using the additional waypoints feature is the best way to go), but make sure it still follows the guidelines. Note that it doesn't have to be .1 mile from waypoints in the same multi, so you can place it as close as you like to either stage. Just make sure its .1 mile from any other cache. Thanx briansnat, that does clarify things for me greatly. And thankyou to all for taking the time to reply. Cheers, chameleon77
  10. No. It would have to be at least .1 mile away from both stages for it to be published. Does that mean I'd have to have the cache page re-reviewed? (providing it's more than .1 mile away) Or could I just add the waypoint to the notes section of the cache page?
  11. I'm confused. If the first stage is problematic because of the area why would you hide another cache with the same CoOrds, as it'd be in the same spot and suffer the same problems? If it's searching, retrieving, and returning the first stage that's problematic why not just replace it with a gummed label with the CoOrds that all can see but only geocachers can comprehend? If you are asking if you can hide an additional micro in the area I guess you could, as long as you don't submit it as a seperate cache, since you'd have two caches with the same coords. ~erik~ Sorry Erik, I'll clarify. The Cache in issue contains the waypoint to the final cache. Because of it's difficulty to grab without being seen, I am thinking of placing another micro elsewhere that contains the same CoOrds(The waypoint of the final cache), but in a more secluded, less muggle-visited location, thereby giving the cacher a choice of which one they prefer to grab. And thanks to nicolo for the input - I really like the idea of a blatantly obvious label that is only decipherable by geocachers.
  12. Quick query - I recently had published a 2 stage multi and have had feedback to the effect that the 1st stage is too well guarded by muggles. My question is, can I hide another micro with the same CoOrds as the 1st stage, and offer it as an alternative to grabbing the well guarded one. (The well guarded 1st stage is in a playground, and I fear that some people might be put off hanging around until playground is clear.) Personally I think it adds to the hunt to have to pick your times carefully, but then I've tried several times to do one particular cache which seems to always have muggles present- and this has led to me remove it from my list. Any feedback appreciated
  13. Maybe Jeremy can convince Pauls' Sr and Jr to design a GeoBike - Could have signal on top of the sissy bar - then they cold hide it and I would have incentive for a FTF. At least Geocaching would get a Sh%&%load of publicity. Or perhaps an OCC Geocoin?. Limited edition of course. That'd be one TB I'd like to see come to Australia.
  14. Ya reckon' Mikey will drop it into a cache for me? Maybe he could design a specialised cache from an old battery box and put it out the back of the workshop. That way, you could log the find.
  15. Was wondering if anyone has any tips or tricks on how to get a TB Overseas. I plan to shortly release my own TB, (From Australia), and set it the goal of getting to a specific place in Montgomery, NY, before returning. Is there anything I can do to increase the chances of it leaving Australia, without it sitting in a cache for the first 3 months of it's travels? Should I put it in a cache near an international airport say, or is it just blind luck as to who can help it along it's way. Also, (seperate thread?), can I give it to someone (not into geocaching) to take overseas, and pass on to another geocacher to place in a cache? My guess is that it should be taken from cache "A" to cache "B" by the geocacher who retrieved it.
  16. God I LOVE instant results!! Thanx Guys, speedy answer to my question. Was almost too obvious, eh?
  17. Just wondering. If you find a cache and log it, and then for some reason decide to revisit that cache later: how do you log your visit? The only options I can see is:- : Found it : Didn't Find it : Write note : Needs Achieve : Needs Maintenance I can't log it as a find, or a DNF, it doesn't need archiving, or maintenance. Is there provisions for logging a visit/revisit.? I checked as many of the online help files and tried searching forums, but came up empty-handed. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers,

    Noob

Once you're hopelessy addicted like the rest of us, you'll realise it's the best investment you ever made!! (Good choice of GPSr too)
  19. Well, my question has been well and truly answered! Thanx to everyone who replied and gave me an insight into the use/value of DNF logs. (And the various reasons for leaving them in.) Mine will be staying right where they are.
  20. I appreciate the time and effort that people put into hides, and to sign the log I feel, is a privilege. It took effort to find the cache, and the reward is to be able to add your name to the list of successful hunters. I think the sig card is just a little extra, something personal from the geohunter. ( I have yet to learn about geocoins, etc.) Thanks for your input, I did have in the back of my mind when I started this thread, that I may be contributing to the clutter of a cache, but it seems to be a generally accepted practice. Maybe I should reserve the sig card dropping-into-cache thing for caches over a certain size. Guess common sense is a good guideline there. Cheers.
  21. Thanks guys, I was using the wrong term. I now know that I meant to use the term signature cards. And I'll assume that they're okay to add to a cache. Many thanks again for the help.
  22. Just wondering,... I seem to notice that people put calling cards in the caches that they find. Is this a generally accepted practice? I have seen quite a few, and have followed suit. However, now I'm wondering if I'm not just adding clutter to the cache, or if the owner appreciates these cards. I haven't gotten to the stage of placing my first cache, but when I do, I think it would be neat to build up a collection of geocachers calling cards. (Not sure if this topic has been covered, or if I've posted in the right area.)
  23. Again, many thanks to all those who responded and expressed their views. A special thanks to PastorDIC for the info on how to create a bookmark. (I managed to create the bookmark after reading last post, but was stumped that no info was in the bookmark. ) Now I have the full instructions, I'll be taking advantage of this feature. Thanx to all again, GeoCachers are kewl!!
  24. Is there any protocol for replying to replies? I posted my first message recently, (hours ago), and I've gotten several replies. I feel socially/morally obligated to reply to all message senders, as I don't want to offend anyone by not replying to their comments and suggestions. (especially seeing as they took the time to write feedback) However, if a large volume of feedback is recieved, it would be very tricky to reply to all. I am assuming from looking through other posts, that one does not have to reply to all, or maybe you reply with a general statement? Help!
