  1. I guess I should feel blessed. I swallowed hard going to my first event. I had no idea what I would get into. Well it was the best thing I have ever done. I had not been Caching for long but I was welcomed with open arms. I learned a lot and have since become good friends with a number of people from all over my state. Many of us live no where near each other but we have a get together once in a while and occasionally set up a Caching day together. We always have a great time. We keep in touch with occasional emails about a particular Cache or something one of the group has done and it always puts a smile on my face. I attended another function in January with a completely different bunch of Cachers and found it to be the same way. I have since Cached with a number of people from that group and had a great time with them also. Hopefully I run into them this weekend at another function and we'll all have a great time again. I am glad I have found some great "Long distance friends"
  2. I just bought the Mapsource Topo from Amazon myself. It was the $68 version. As far as I could find out they were all the same just priced differently. The TOPO I got was not locked and I did not need unlock codes to install it in my laptop or my Legend C. I did however download the latest Version of Mapsource from Garmin. The one on the CD is very outdated. You need the new one so Mapsource can recognize a USB connection. Just download that, then install the maps. Check with Garmin about loading the maps so you don't have to have the CD in to have the maps show up in the program. Although the maps are not as detailed as I would like they serve me well enough to be usefull. I am glad I got them.
  3. Google "Garmin legend C" Click on the GPSonsale.com $159 Refurbished. 1 year warranty, just like new. My friend just bought one from here. I love mine
  4. The picture is from Amazon. Both of these products look to be the same but the price is different. Which one do I need to load maps into my GPS?
  5. I needed about 10-15 maps of PA to put in my Legend C. A friend gave me the program but when I tried to load the maps it said I needed to connect to Garmin to get an unlock code. The topos look like they are locked to me. I'm not sure what I should buy if this does not work. Looking at Amazon there is Garmin Mapsource topo US for $69 and then there is Garmin Mapsource CD ROM USA topo for $80 All I want is about 15 maps of PA to load in my GPS, which product would serve my purpose. I have Maptech to do the paper work but I would like to see elevations while I am walking.
  6. Try this Cache. The start is about 3 miles north of I-80 at exit 133. The owner intended it to be a canoe-kayak cache but a few of us figured out how to walk to it. Very remote area. Take out is at Karthaus Canoe Launch, or earlier up stream, at Millers Landing. Moshannon Falls Rafting Point
  7. Look at the information on this page. This is how I do it with my Mac. You have to use GPS Babel not Mac simple if you have a usb connection. Paperless with a Mac

Most of the Mac help you need is on this page. I know it really helped me. It worked with the Old OS X and also with my new Intel Mac. Paperless with a Mac

I use MacCMconvert to get gpx files into my Zire 31.
  11. Ammo cans are much cheaper and you don't have to paint them.
  12. Keystone, only because I have worked with him longer than O Reviewer.
  13. First you have to understand that this group of Cachers in North Central PA are a great crowd. They are the best bunch of cut-ups you have ever seen. We are continually trying to blind each other, with tears, from laughing at the pictures we post. This theme started out with thongs,- somehow, - but it has graduated to giant underbritches. You never know when one of these crazy people will post a picture that will have you laughing all day. This is just one of the silly pictures that has had people laughing all day, and some others wondering just what we do. Anyhow try not to laugh too hard. The caption should read: They kinda match my top but I don't know if they are legal for hunting.
  14. Between people hoarding them and you can't find out who the winners are, it seems this contest is mostly a joke. I have given up on Green Jeeps a while back after someone took one out of one of my caches and never logged anything anywhere. It was a premium member too. I put it in the cache about 7 pm and by about noon the next day it had disappeared when another Cacher reported it missing. They had to live pretty close too because this is not a populated area. Hmmmmm I wonder who this jeep thief is?
  15. Can it be done. SURE!! My first Cache was from my desk at my computer. I knew what this was and where it was. Emailed the owner and had several conversations with him about the virtual cache. Use your head and go find some easy ones.
  16. Most of the Cachers that log this Cache in Central PA say this is a must do Cache. It is beautiful anytime of the year. 3 Falls Cache See more Geocaching Photos at the album Geocaching Destinations at Geocaching Photos This is what Geocaching is all about.
  17. Check the Sept. 30th pictures in the logs at this cache, that I led a group to. Some celebrated their 500th, some celebrated their 1000th and the other couple just went over 1500. It was a great celebration in a very remote area, with Wine, Cheese, Sparkling Cider and Chocolates. Moshannon Falls Rafting Point
  18. The following is from Paperless with a Mac. I have had no problems with my Legend C but I am running 10.3.9 New computer comes next week. NOTE: The new USB Garmins have introduced new issues with connectivity. Success with Garmin USB is predicated upon two things: current device firmware and OS/X 10.3.8 or newer. OS X version 10.3.8 and all versions of 10.4 added a workaround to compensate for the Garmins not responding correctly to device enumeration. This allowed the Garmins to work intermittently. In the middle of 2005, Garmin released firmware updates that improved their USB behaviour as seen by OS/X. The required version varies from model to model; just update to the latest. If you have a version older than summer of 2005, you will almost certainly need to update. Until Garmin releases a firmware updater that works on OS/X, you will need to do this update from a Windows system. (Info lifted from GPSBabel website) Paperless with a Mac
  19. IT is possible that you are not converting the PQ with MacCMConvert. ( which is free ) If you do this with MacGpsbabel, select that converted file then, it should be able to see the file and convert it to put into the GPS. When I run Babel I get a menu that says Magellen or Garmin, then serial or USB ( I have USB on my Legend ). Babel then loads the waypoints into the legend. Works fine for me. I have just, in the last month gone paperless with my Mac and a Legend C. It was easier than I thought.
  20. This is a great page for paperless with a Mac. If you have a USB connection you will have to get GPSBabel instead of Macsimple. I think it is free. Paperless with a Mac
  21. When I load several hundred caches into my Garmin Legend C the Icons show up in many different forms. Some will be Caches, some will be parking icons and some will be, who knows what. Is there any way to have them all be Cache Icons? I understand I can change them in the GPS unit, but what a pain. Is this normal behavior when you load caches? I use GPSbabel to load the caches into the GPS, and if it makes a difference, with a Mac. Thanks
  22. That's not possible. es Thank goodness. You ever try to read some people's Myspace pages? I'd hate for cache pages to wind up like that. AMEN TO THAT. It is wayyyy to hard and annoying to read text through a picture.
  23. Here is a link to a DNF that I had in June. You have to read all the logs from the beginning. There is only 8 or 9. A number of people have commented on how civil this DNF started out and then got resolved. Several people could have been upset, considering how remote this place is, but we all took it in stride and considered it a learning experience. Even the Cache Owner did not get upset. It started out with the coordinates being quite a bit off. We all enjoyed looking for the cache, even the people that did not find it. I was particullay aggressive about this one because it was so close to me and I knew I could get there by land not in a canoe. Moshannon Falls Rafting Point
  24. That is my question exacty! Take the picture now, submit the TB# and photo the next month, and then I can keep this bug moving. Since the rules seem a little confusing to many I guess I'll try it this way. Hey if it doesn't work then I'm not going to worry about it. I'll just keep caching until I find another one.
  25. Does anyone have the link where you can look at pictures that have been submitted? Having a bad night, I just can't find anything.
