  1. We are starting a team for the Peter Pan International series and need your help!

The Peter Pan caches are an international grouping of seven multi-caches. Find foreign friends and solve seven caches in five countries across three continents.

Each Peter Pan cache is a multi-cache. The given location is your local Peter Pan statue designed by Sir George Frampton (1860-1928) following a commission by J M Barrie. Seven castings were made and the statues reside in:

    London (UK GC188J7)

    Liverpool (UK GC18GZC)

    St John's (Canada GC1988Q)

    Toronto (Canada GC18DGA) GPS Derek

    Brussels (Belgium GC1958W)

    Perth (Australia GC183Z0) iluvtrekking

    Camden (USA GC1899C)

The original statue was commissioned in 1912.

First, there's a micro/nano cache hidden in the park near the Peter Pan statue. Inside the micro/nano cache are latitude and a longitude, but they are NOT for the location of your local cache. The latitude is for one of the six other caches in the series, the longitude is for a different one of the six other caches. To find the final of this cache, you will have to contact someone who has found one of the other six caches, and trade coordinates until you have the set you need. The coordinate information does not include which city the coordinates are for. Figuring that out is left as an exercise for the cachers.

Once you have found the final cache, you may log a find on the local cache, as usual. If your coordinates help another geocacher team find one of the other caches, you may claim a find for that cache too. In order to claim a find on one of the other caches, your log must include the names of the other cachers who you helped, and you must e-mail Tinkerbell the secret code word from that other cache.

So here's your chance to have cache logs in five countries across three continents.

To join our team please contact me through PM or post to this forum and I will get back to you.

    Thanks,

    GPS Derek

  4. Actually it is not advisable to use this phone as a modem under Bell Cdn Unlimited browser. If you use it this way you fall under the data rates rather than the $7 unlimited rate.

For the first time ever, someone in the IT field told me something I didn't know... And it was true! :D

When my wife and I got the Touch we asked the sales guy at Bell World if it was completely unlimited and he said that it was... He then went on about this "tethering" feature which I thought sounded great as sometimes I'm in the middle of no where and it would be nice to have normal internet access. The sales guy said that it fell under the unlimited plan too, hey, sweet! Then your post of reality came and ended the fantasy.

I just got off the blower with Bell Tech Support and after being put on hold several times while they "checked for information" they said that yes, tethering does cost extra and that you'd be charge their normal data rate. Seeing how I've used tethering a couple of times now I'm sure I'll get extra charges on my next bill, which I will be fighting as I was mid-lead by the sales guy.

    We'll see what happens...

    Thanks for the heads up!

glad I could be of assistance... even if I am a IT guy

If you want to read more on the Touch go to howard forums under bell or HTC. All sorts of cool apps and tweeks to be had.

    bell is at http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=46

    HTC is at http://www.howardforums.com/forumdisplay.php?f=157

  5. or upload HTML exported code from GSAK and upload to a website, and use the mobile browser (That's what I do, as I have unlimited Internet)

Another awesome feature of this phone is that it can be used as a modem. So if you didn't want to use the small browser on the phone, you could use your laptop. Just plug the phone into your laptop via USB, start the program on the phone to use it as a modem and viola, high speed internet access anywhere you get a cell signal! Of course you need the browser feature (best if it's unlimited).

Actually it is not advisable to use this phone as a modem under Bell Cdn Unlimited browser. If you use it this way you fall under the data rates rather than the $7 unlimited rate.

See there web site for further details.

Bottom line, unlimited means anything you can do on the phone... not as a modem.

That being said, I have the Touch and love it, have not done the BT GPS yet as there is a rumor that Bell will enable AGPS in the near future. Too much other stuff on the go right now to do that anyways.

I have loaded cachemate to it and it works fine but I'm still used to my PALM so haven't switched, Cachemate is slightly different between the 2.... at this point prefer to stick with what I'm used to.

What I have used it for several times is checking live updates of caches to see when it was found last and if FTF was still up for grabs... Palm detail was actually a few days old where I thought it was hours old.

Also I have researched trivia answers to get to the next stage/cache.

Still a toy but I love it.

  6. Due to our new cell phones coming with Micro SD cards I have more than I need so I will offer them around if someone needs them.

I have a 2gb Micro SD card from Kingston with SD adapter, holding case and information card that came in the package. $20 shipped.

I also have a 512 card and adapter and a couple of 64... make me a offer.

  7. Hi GPS Derek,

In GSAK, select File...Export, then GPX/LOC File. On the next window, ensure that GPX file is selected, then save the file somewhere on your computer.

Connect your phone to the computer with a USB cable and then copy the GPX file to the phone's SD card. On the phone, open CacheMate and select the Import Plugin icon. Then tap on Start and then tap on the GPX file name, to start the import of the GPX data into CacheMate.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you very much, I will have a new PQ sent to my home PC so when I get home tonight I will kick my daughter off the pc and try this very procedure.

  8. Stupid question time. I have been using GSAK on my PC and Cachemate on my Palm Vx for about a year. That Palm developed power problems last fall. I replace it with a Z22 which is great and now all set up. Wife gave me a HTC touch smartphone for Christmas which runs WM6. I have cachemate installed and registered....

My plan for now is to use the palm as primary but if space is limited or if I like the phone for geocaching i will switch.

How do I get the caches from GSAK to the phone?

Load onto my memory card or phone via USB, email them?

    TIA

Sorry, didn't realize I was in the SA section. I have copied this to the software section, which is where I thought I was.

  10. I currently have a Palm Vx that I got for $15 picked up locally of Ebay. Cought a case for another 10 but after a year the battery started fading very fast. Bought a new battery and replaced it...(not a easy feat) but it has good power and then drops like a rock so I guess it's the unit, not the battery. Found a Z22 on ebay for $40, need to get time to switch all over and get a case. Being new can't tell what it wil be like in sunshine yet.

Unless you have a read need for it ther than Geocaching, stay under $50 so if it is lost or damaged... no biggie... just get a replcaement.

  11.

    Worth while Suggestions welcomed.

    TIA,

    Derek

Make sure you have the latest firmware updates. I seemed to recall one of the fixes dealt with late turn notifications.

seems I was 1 version behind... I have updated and will now see if that make a difference. Thank you.

To tlhutch.... Thank you for your theory , it goes with what I believed and that's why I didn't understand the new found slowness.

Much appreciated from both of you.

  12. About a year ago I got a Garmin 60CX for Geocaching and some auto routing as I normally use Steet Pilot 3 for the car. Been using a 512mb memory card and City Navigator V7. Recently got TOPO Canada and have found I can have both loaded for my area(only viewing 1 at a time though).

Last week got a Kingston 2gb micro SD at a price I couldn't resist. Loaded up almost all of CN and 2 regions of TOPO with some space left over. All is good, I can use CN for driving and TOPO for caching without swithching memory chips.

BUT... there's always a BUT, response seem very slow on routing now. Prime example, Routing telles me to turn left which I do, The turn left page stays up long enough for me to miss the next quick right turn notification until I'm past the turn.

Don't remember it doing this before with the 512mb card. Is this because the 2GB memory is to bib for the 60cx to process quickly?

    Worth while Suggestions welcomed.

    TIA,

    Derek

  13. When I bought my new to me vehicle I figured I would use those adhesive disks that came with my Garmin GPS's. I have used a bean bag mount up until now but thought since I keep my cars 10 years that I should make it more permanent, literally as the bean bag moves around the dash on bumpy roads.

I use the reposition able adhesive disk for trial period. I used my StreetPilot for a road trip and left the unit on the dash once we parked. Next morning I found the GPS and base on the floor. I stuck the unit back on the remaining disk and drove home. Week or so later I put in my Map60CX for some Geocaching and I didn't make it out of the driveway before it fell off.

Planning to use the permanent disk next but wondering if it will have a similar separation problem and should I ever want to remove it how hard is it to get the glue off the dash?

    TIA

    Derek

  14. Thanks for the infomation and links, exactly what I was looking for but for some reason was not able to find.

He removed the micro as his first step in closing the cache as he will not be in the area to maintain it and starting a new business will not likely have time to cache for awhile.

I saw him last night ans said I would look after it for him.

I will visit the area this weekend and decide if I should start a new one in a slightly different location or keep this one going. It was a hard micro to find even though it was relativly in the open.

  15. I have a friend who is moving out of town for work. He has 1 cache that I want to adopt... how do I go about that?

I have searched the FAQ and can not find any information about how to do it. Cache is currently disabled untill I can take control and replace the container.

    TIA

  16. Seems some people are fogetting this is a game of fun and FTF get nothing more than bragging rights. Gota be more laid back about them and not worry... I woke up one winter morning and found 2 new parking lot micro's. I was new and went for it. Got to the first one and found footprints in the snow leading to the light pole. Log is blank so I sign the FTF spot. Go to the second one and again sign the FTF log.

Go to log it a bit later that morning and find my first FTF has been claimed, seems the claimer's pen frooze and would not write. Remembering this for fun I did not contest it... I did see foot prints after all.

  17. To get it from the horse's mouth I made the calls myself. Canadian version.

First I call RadioWorld (Garmin dealer/rep for Canada) where I bought both my GPS's from and they confirmed the "no more update" policy. They have not heard anything about the "one unlock code".

Second call to the 866 tech support line listed for Canada. Rep said the "one unlock code" is not confirmed but it is being strongly discussed and possiable, no date is set but it is in discussion.

Sounds like it letter writing time... maybe Garmin will back off this if there is enough noise made.
