  1. Today was really the first time I have had to worry about muggles. On 3 out 4 caches, there were people around. The 1st one was done with no problems, but on the 2nd cache, a group of people taking a break near the cache called out its location before we really had started looking. On the 3rd cache, a city employee stopped and asked if we were geocaching and then went and got the man who was "honored" by the naming and placement of the cache. On the 4th cache, a homeless woman asked what we were doing crawling all around a fountain near a library/bookstore and when we tried to explain, she got bored and left. And then a library employee walked by and asked what we were doing and after we told her, she was excited about geocaching. After that though, we decided to say we were fountain inspectors. Never did find the cache and found out later it had been muggled. I do like the clipboard and vest idea. It looks very official!!!
  2. Just now found and finished reading this thread which comes at an appropriate time for me. I was out geocaching by myself in a huge, safe, urban park in the middle of a Saturday afternoon. I had my dog with me, but she is very small and was there for fun and not protection. I didn't find the cache and as I was walking back to my car, the thought came to me that if I came across someone out here...it might not be a good thing because it was about a mile back to the car and fairly isolated. 2 days later, it was reported that the very next day, a woman was attacked and raped in the very area where I was. It did kind of unnerve me, but I refuse to be afraid to do anything I choose to do. I do have a gun and I start my concealed carry class this Wednesday so I can be legal. I am not going to stop hiking, geocaching, biking or whatever by myself because of fear but I don't want to leave myself unprotected, either. More than likely, I will carry pepper spray and I am stay aware of my surroundings. I mean, there are some areas I would never go into at any time of day or night and only an idiot would, but for the most part I will go where I want and when I want. If I can run away, I will. But if I have to fight, like Flask, I am going to inflict as much damage as I can. I am not going to be afraid to live my life and I will go down fighting for it. I have survived 3 different cancers so far and I didn't fight them to be afraid of living.
  3. Thanks for the info. I just wanted to make sure that any MapSource updates did not need to be transferred to the maps I put on my GPS months ago. I guess when they make major map changes (new streets, etc) then I have the option of buy the City Navigator update.
  4. I noticed that Garmin updated Mapsource to Version 6.13.1 on August 21. How many people go ahead and update their storage card in their unit when this occurs? I have a 2G Kingston SD card and I put all of the US on the card earlier this year. I did update Mapsource on my computer, but haven't done my 60CSx yet.
  5. Glad you got it fixed. I was pretty sure it was something with your firmware/software. Sometimes you have to run webupdate twice if you need to update 2 different things.
  6. Have you gone to the Garmin website and looked for updates? Install their webupdater and let it check your unit. And have you tried to restore the default settings? What software version are you using?
  7. What does it say on the blank satellite screen? Does it say "GPS is OFF"? Are you indoors when this is happening? Mine is working fine. It could be that the unit is in the "GPS OFF" mode. Get into the main menu--go to "Set Up" hit "Enter" --go "System" and under GPS , see what it says. It should be "normal." If not, press "enter" and you should see the different options. Set to "normal."
  8. I use GPXSonar with my IPAQ and I really like it. You can download it free by going to "Resources" then clicking on "Geocaching Software" and then "GPXSonar". Download it, and either use ActiveSync to get it to your PocketPC (I save mine to a separate storage card), or drag it to your PPC. I then created folders on the storage card for my hometown, another city where I vacation, and then if I am traveling, a folder for those cities/states. When I go to the cache page, I just send the cache in GPX eXchange file to my PPC. Hope this helps.
  9. Try this link: http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=575 I use NRoute on my laptop with a 60CSx and I find it to be very helpful..and it's free. Even if you can't find your unit listed....it might work. I didn't see mine listed, but it works just fine.
  10. By reading the posts, it looks like only people who have purchased one within the last 8 months are seeing the problem. Maybe Garmin will have an answer for that.
  11. My 60CSx is doing the same thing and has been for maybe a month. I am glad to find out I am not the only one, though I am sorry anyone is having the same problem. I contacted Garmin today and will be sending my unit in tomorrow. The tech guy I spoke with said he knew nothing about others having this problem but I told him about this forum and the other posts. My unit was purchased in late January so it is still under warranty.
  12. Thanks...that worked great!
  13. Why on earth can you not use a 2 letter word in a keyword search? I was trying to search "power on problem" but it won't let me because of the 3 character rule. What is up with that?
  14. I have the same Garmin and when I combine it with a laptop and the NRoute software...I get the voice directions. To download NRoute: http://www8.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=575 Hope this helps.
  15. That isn't exactly it, but it does give me the option that I was looking for, so thanks for that info.
  16. Thanks. That explains why those coordinates are on that page. I just assumed they would match my home coordinates.
  17. Whenever I log in, choose my "state" as the option, and then choose my city under "Select Local City" and then "Get Caches", it will show "All Caches" and a listing of by Waypoint From Origin. This origin is not the coordinates I have entered for my home location, but somewhere else. I can change to my home coordinates but I cannot save that location on this page. Is there a way to do this and what/who determined the coordinates that are listed everytime I use this page?
  18. Just use the "Send to GPS" option on each cache's webpgage. It will direct you to dowload a program from Garmin to do this, but is pretty self-explanatory.
