  1. Can't see the t-shirt, but I love the idea of giving your dog a travel bug tag. I may have to do that for my dog, Abbie, who goes geocaching with me most of the time. I could always back date her travels. She did 9 caches with me today and we hiked about 4-5 miles! A lot for her since she is about 7lbs.
  2. WOOOHOOO! Got mine today and they are BEAUTIFUL!!!!! Thanks so much!!
  3. That's because you're using the card that shipped with the unit. I've got a 2gig card, and have the entire country loaded on it, with plenty of room left over for custom POIs and track logs. DVD and a larger memory card is the way to go. I have a 1 gig card with the whole US on it. I downloaded from City Navigator NT and I still have some room left over.
  4. Geesh....if this keeps up, there is going to be an attribute for everything someone can think of that they like/don't like. I've seen attribute requests for those who are short, those who are tall, busy traffic, mandatory parking places, hidden in a shrub, mosquitoes, RV/Semi accessible, spiders, mud, and I am sure there lots more. Come on, people. You are outside..things happen. Use some common sense, look at maps and make an informed decision. How about an attribute for " you might actually have to get out of your car, turn on your gps and walk more than 3 feet".
  5. My dog, Abbie, has actually found 2 caches for me. I suspect that she did smell the latest human scent on the ammo cans. She has yet to find a micro but then again those aren't usually hidden on the ground. At least around here they aren't. I have wondered about what scent I could use to train her to find them but that has eluded me. Paper and plastic are too common even out in the woods. The best way would probably be to train to the human scent and get friends to lay down tracks for practice. This would be similar to the training I used to do in Schutzhund.
  6. " Yellow on black---better get back. Black on yellow, he's a a good fellow." So, which is it in that picture? Red on yellow is the dangerous one; red on black is the non-venomous one. Yellow on black. The black has yellow on both sides. Hey...at least this is the way I was taught it.
  7. Hiking poles are also great for knocking spiderwebs out of the way. It really creeps me out to walk into a spider web while out on a trail. If someone could see me they would think I was some kind of fruitcake because I walk through the woods flailing that pole like a crazy person in front of me. I don't mind the bugs, ticks, poison ivy...even snakes...as much as I do the spider webs. If I am geocaching with someone, I always let them lead the way. They might think I am just being courteous but my motive is for them to get the webs first. This always worked well for me when mountain biking.
  8. AHA!!! That is exactly it. I went back and looked and that person was here and found the cache one year ago. They are from out of state so I guess they just want to log everyplace they have been with their coin. I was just curious because I kept seeing all the notes on the cache log website, but never on the actual logs when I found the cache.
  9. Interesting, On topic: I carry whenever legal to do so. That coral snake pic just reminded me of the saying " Yellow on black---better get back. Black on yellow, he's a a good fellow." Hadn't thought about that in years. Of course, if I get that close, I am getting out of there before I can even think of the rhyme. In some places, it is illegal to kill even poisonous snakes.
  10. I use an HP Ipaq RX3115 that I already had for other reasons. I have a separate SD card for my GSAK downloads and a separate SD card for my audiobooks, and another one for music. I have found it very easy to use for paperless caching. I created folders on the card for caches in my area, caches in another state I traveled to and one for puzzle caches. This just helps me keep things a little more organized. The IPAQ has wireless connection so if I can grab a signal somewhere (McDonald's, Holiday Inn parking lots), I can go online and check caches if need be.
  11. Just a question about this. I recently went to several caches and in the logs before I headed out was a note stating someone was logging the cache for mileage for their personal geocoin. However, when I found the caches that person had not signed the cache logs. Did they really find the cache or just put a note on a cache for mileage? I understand the concept of logging a cache for personal mileage but it just seems to me that you should actually find the cache and sign the log.
  12. I have the 60CSx and have used it for auto-routing but even with a suction mount to make it closer to eye level, it still was difficult to see. What I do now and will do if I need auto-routing is connect my GPS to my laptop, use Garmin's NRoute software that I download and I get voice routing and my big laptop screen which is very easy to read. This set up worked great for me when I was trying to negotiate Santa Fe this summer.
  13. What are its length when fully collapsed and fully extended? I really like the camera mount feature. There have been times when I certainly could have used it. I have a hiking pole I use now, but may go look for this one at one of the outdoor stores here. Thanks for letting us know about this.
  14. Ever since I walked in on someone burglarizing my house and they were armed with a sawed-off shotgun, I have owned a gun. I currently own a Sig Sauer .380. This was almost 20 years ago. I moved out of that area and the newest gun has been in a case and in a closet until recently. I was out caching by myself not too long ago on Sunday afternoon in a large urban park. I did have a dog with me, but she small and non-threatening. I was looking for a cache when I had one of the "hairs standing up on the back of my neck" experiences and I left the area. I found out later that the very next day in the same location a woman was attacked and raped. I have now applied for my concealed carry and will carry it with me on occasion. I have carried a gun with me before without a permit because my job took me into remote areas where there were meth labs and marijuana being grown. I would also be called out in the middle of the night to remote areas and I would go armed. I much prefer following the law and getting my license now. I hope I never have to use m gun, but I know that I would and could if I have to.
  15. Yep....I forgot to add that in my previous post. The automatic "My Finds" that only runs once a week will show all of your finds, archived or not. This is the one that should be used for your cache stats. The "my finds" PQ that you can create on your own and run will not show archived caches.
  16. OK...I think I just figured it out. My profile finds =87, but when I do a PQ for my finds, that number =82. The answer is the I have 5 finds that have been archived..not disabled or whatever. Caches that are now archived are not showing up in the PQ. And if I change the search option on the PQ for "THAT are not active", it only shows disabled caches and not archived ones. This problaby is why your count is off.
  17. I went through their profile and didn't see any multi-logging. (Yes, there's an easy way to check this.) My kid's account had this problem recently. I waited and eventually it showed the correct numbers. Any way of maybe determining what cache didn't get counted? I have noticed this problem, too. But, it doesn't do it all the time. Crazy.
  18. I just have a 1 GB card in my 60CSx and I bought it from amazon at a very good price. Mine is a Kingston brand. I have the whole US (City Navigator NT ver. 8) on that SD card with a little room left over. You can add more waypoints to the card but you would have to create custom icons to do that because the unit does only hold 1000 waypoints. If you have a 2GB you could do have both street maps and topos...if you buy that software, that is.
  19. DING DING DING!!!! We have a wonderful answer! I just did that on my 60CSx and it works perfectly! THANKS! Now if I can just remember this for future use. Oops. I did delete them as waypoints, but they came right back. I think that is because they are a map feature from MapSource.
  20. It's about four months old. I think you've answered my question. It shouldn't be doing this. I had a great experience with customer support and you should, too. I sent my unit on a Tuesday, they received it on Thursday, and sent a new out on Monday...and I had a new unit on Wednesday. Not a bad turn around. Oh....don't do what I did. I removed batteries, SD card, lanyard and the belt clip..but I didn't take the button off for the belt clip. When I got my new unit, it didn't have the button on it, either. I forgot the darn things screw on or off. I did email tech support and they are going to send me one, but save yourself some time and trouble. Good luck.
  21. This happens with fresh batteries or any battery condition Same versions as yours NiMH batteries. Well....the only difference that I can tell so far is our batteries. I have the alkaline. That really shouldn't do it, though. How old is your unit? I got mine in January of this year and started having problems turning it on and off. I sometimes had to take the batteries out to turn it off and never knew if I would get it turned back on. I sent it off under warranty and got it back yesterday. Have your tried increasing the timeout function just to see if that matters?
  22. OK...Just set my 60Csx to those settings and all looks good on my end. How much battery power do you have left? What is your software verions and GPS SW version? Mine are 3.30 for software and 2.90 for GPS SW. Also...what kind of batteries are you using? I have alkaline. I am just trying to see if I can duplicate the problem.
