  1. Can anyone explain exactly what this is supposed to do or if it is even working? When I start with "My Account" and then click on "Map It" from the "search for nearest caches from your home coordinates", I go to the Google Map Search map that has this option in the upper right hand corner. If I put in my home address, one would think it would take me to my house, correct? However, it takes me to god only knows where! I don't even know what state it is in, but certainly NOT anywhere near me! Do we have to put in city and state even though I am supposedly looking at a map that is my home coordinates. Can we get any kind of guidance with this feature?
  2. The Groundspeak variation of Lily Tomlin as Ernestine the telephone operator: "We don't care. We don't have to. We're Groundspeak." Sure is what it feels like at times. No updates, no explanations, useless maps, difficulty with bookmarks and pocket queries, and the list goes on.
  3. WHY aren't you supporting it? Can you at least give us reasons? If you are going to limit us to the completely useless 15 mile limit, I was hoping the state map could at least help me plan my geocaching adventures. WHAT A FREAKING WASTE!
  4. Did you even bother to check that the maps are working? Because they sure aren't and haven't been all freaking week.
  5. I am still getting huge grey-out blocks on the maps also. In the computer bar, it says it is still downloading from mt*.google.com or it is waiting on maps but after 5 minutes....I am still waiting. I have tried this in both IE7 and Firefox. At least, the check box for "Hide My Finds" seems to actually be staying checked when I pan/move the map. That is very good! I still don't like the 15 mile limit because it is not useful when looking for caches in remote area. The state maps feature is still not working. I found that to be a useful tool and would like to have it working again.
  6. I am starting to get a little more than PO'd about the freaking maps! I am trying to use the useless maps to find and download some caches that are in a pretty remote area. However, using the new and useless maps, when i try to zoom in, I mainly get BIG AND USELESS GRAYED OUT areas right where I need to be looking. The maps are not completely loading and never do, no matter what I try. There are too many things wrong with the maps, the website, Send to GPS, icons, printing, etc. Take everything back to the old and WORKING way. If you listen very carefully, you can almost hear Lily Tomlin as Ernestine, the telephone operator: "We don't care. We don't have to. We're the phone company." Of course, this was before the big breakup of AT&T and its monopoly. They knew people could complain all they want, but where else could they go?
  7. double post due to slooooooow server problems.
  8. I just REALLY love all the grayed out areas on the map when I try to pan, zoom, or do anything useful with the new maps.j Oh, please keep this wonderful feature...and maybe you can even have the whole map grayed out, because that would certainly be better than what we have now.
  9. Could you please explain what bugs you are talking about? I find that the ones I would consider bugs have yet to be fixed and things appear to be worse.
  10. Let's face it. Changes are being made that NOBODY seems to have asked for and NO ONE certainly notified us that changes were being made. Features that were extremely useful and that worked have been removed and replaced with either no features or features that don't work.
  11. Yes, we need to get rid of this useless feature. Have you had the pleasure yet of big grayed-out areas when panning the map around? Please go back to the old maps. And why does it seem impossible to have the old maps and the "beta" version at the same time so they can be tested and have the bugs worked on while we maps that work and are actully useful.
  12. AND....just what the heck does the "Link to this page" at the top of the map do? Link what to what? I can click on it but can't tell that it is doing anything. The 15 mile feature where you can no longer see caches is NOT good! I like being able to zoom out and look at different areas in the state and see where there a caches that might be placed relatively close together in more rural areas. Quite frankly, with the maps the way they are with the 15 mile limit, no cache names listed, the lack of the bookmark feature and the repetitive checking/unchecking "Hide My Finds", I might not have a need to renew my premium membership. The old maps were of more benefit to me and they were part of the free membership.
  13. As I have stated on other threads about the new maps: The icons are way too small when you are in hybrid mode and zooming. They need to be larger or a different color or something. They blend into a green forest area too easily. Make "Hide My Finds" the default setting instead of showing all finds on the map. If I check "Hide My Finds" and then pan the map around, I have to uncheck that setting and then check it again for my finds to get hidden. Just reverse the default and if I want to see my finds, I can check that box. If you don't want to list the cache names on the map, at least have a place to toggle the names on/off if you want to see them. I like having the names when I am going to print of a general map of the caches I am going to look for. The last 2 weekends, I have gone to 2 different lakes with caches around the perimeter and having a map with the names and layout was nice to have.
  14. The new maps are getting better, IMHO. BUT.......please make the freaking icons larger or a different color or something because when you use the hybird option and zoom in, they pretty much disappear against the green of a forest, etc. And, why do I have to keep checking, then unchecking and checking again for "Hide My Finds" whenever I pan a map? This is extremely redundant and completely irritating. If i check "Hide My Finds" then that is what i want and should stay that way the entire time I am currently on the site and looking at maps. Acutally, how about making the "Hide My Finds" the default and if you want to "Show Your Finds", you have to click the box. That way, it will always hide your finds and you have to ask for your finds if you want to see them. That makes more sense.
  15. But, using photobucket or any similar source will still not add them to your gallery or your trackables. They will only be in your profile. And I am not sure if anyone else can see them if they are on your profile page.
  16. I had this problem sometime yesterday myself. I would see parts of the map and big grayed-out areas in other places. I use Mozilla Firefox for my browser. Things seem to be fine for me today with the maps.
  17. I believe it is a new change but not sure why of the change. 2 people I know both received the 128mb card.
  18. The one feature of the new maps that I would like to see applied to the old/existing maps is the "Hide My Finds." However, I would like for it to stay as "Hide My Finds" when I pan the map around. Having to keep unchecking and checking it everytime I move the map is irritating and redundant. I like seeing the list of caches on the right-hand side and having the "bubble" sure makes it nice if you want to print out a map.
  19. I have to echo the comment. The new maps are no good for printing as there is no legend and there is no double height. They might be okay for online browsing but this is not what I want to use them for. Please bring the old maps back at least as an option. Good point about them not being good for printing. I agree that having the legend for the cache is extremely helpful if you are printing the map. I just used the feature to print a map for all of the caches around a lake I was heading to. It was a good visual for me to see the layout of the caches and to check them off as I found them.
  20. I just tried both things you mentioned and neither were a problem. They must be actively working on it. The "hide" buttons stayed checked and when zooming the icons never changed size. I'm using Firefox if it makes a difference... I use Firefox also. The box does stay checked, but if you pan around on the map, your "finds" still show up even if the box remains checked. You have to uncheck the box and then check it back again to hide your finds. What a waste of time! Either they are hidden or they aren't! And, I WANT the icons to change size when zooming in. If you keep zooming in and the icons stay as small as they are to begin with....they are almost impossible to see.
  21. At the moment, I have only 2 complaints about the new maps. 1. I really like the "Hide My Finds" feature but it is extremely irritating to have to unclick it and then click it again every single time I move the map around with the "hand" feature. If I click this feature, it should stay that way the entire time I am looking at maps. I would rather not have this feature if I have to keep clicking on it. 2. If I am zooming in on the maps (I was using hybrid mode), the icons get almost too small to see. The icons should increase in size relative to the zooming in feature. Thanks for your efforts, though. Overall, it looks good.
  22. Yesterday I drove about 180 miles round trip to meet a caching friend at what was a halfway point for both of us. We found 13 caches around a really beautiful lake and then drove another 10 miles to bushwhack into a cache placed at a waterfall. Of course there was no water running this time of year, but it was still awesome. Had a nice picnic lunch at the lake and wore out 2 happy geocaching dogs. I left my house at 8am and got home around 730pm.
  23. If your Garmin can use the NT version, that is the one to get....and on CD/DVD. I have the whole US loaded on my 60CSx and I only have a 1Gb card. I like the freedom of having the SD card that I loaded myself and not the pre-loaded one.
