  1. I've used the krylon fusion also. Great stuff. They have it in several camo colors, olive drab, sand, etc. Can't seem to locate it at Wally World, but NAPA has it and so does our local Sherwin-Williams Paint store. Word of caution. Make sure you wipe down what you are going to paint with rubbing alcohol to remove any oil you have on your hands while handling the l-n-l. Seems like there is a little adhesion problem with any oils/fingerprints I've had on my hands. Seems like the rubbing alcohol worked best. Maybe the directions would tell you more..(who reads directions??) Pretty durable after that. I had some containers out for over 18 months and are holding up well.
  2. Wally World has them in various sizes. From the sandwich size to very small(dime size) in the crafts/sewing area. My wife picks them up for me most of the time.
  3. 172/20mile 64 are mine about 30,000 population
  4. Here's mine from the back of my sig card. "Jesus-the Original Geocacher!" For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was* lost. Luke 19:10 * I was a 'was' once!
  5. I've been using the Ray-O-Vac Hybrids. They have some pretty good propaganda out about them not loosing a charge during their shelf life. Can't remember if they are 2100 or 2500 MAH. But I have learned to love them over my duracell rechargables. They seem to do what they have advertised, which is real nice when you reach into your rechargable bag and not find a handful of low batteries. I think they are $7-8 for a pack of four AA's @ WWorld. Not a lot more $$'s if you by a charger that comes w/2AA's and 2AAA's. Good performance too, about 2-3 x's over alkies. Dr. P
  6. Just purchased Nuvi 660. Love it!! Has all the whistles and bells. Bluetooth, FM modulator, MP3, photos, etc. Great maps, poi's etc.. but was a lot of $$'s. $599/Sam's. Smaller screen, same features, Nuvi 360. Without all the whistle's and bells, Nuvi 350. WallyWorld had them on the shelf last week.. Dr. P
  7. I have a Vista CX and a 60C and am totally satisfied with both..as far as preferances, I just grab the one that's the closest. It does seem that the Vista does lock on to the satellites a little faster but not doing a benchmark test of sorts, I can't be certain on that one. I have the 1GB card in the CX and thought that was important. Can't say that is so after owning it for 8-9 months. And my main purpose or use is that of geocaching and the extra storage isn't that big of deal in my area. As far as holding the signal, just like SB, I have had to learn to hold the CX facing up to keep a lock. So the quad helix might have the edge here. But not by much. Both units hold the signal well in tough conditions. Screens are a toss up. Both do well in sunlight and have good back lights in the dark. Multiple colors schemes on the display and night time setting are kinda neat. But don't add too much to the perforamce. Battery life... I use the RCA 2100MAH hybrids and I love them. Seem to last forever. My unofficial, non-scientific assumption is they last at least 4-5 x's longer than a regular alky (I'm sure I will be corrected on that one) and w/1500 charge cycles stated, makes a real money saver in the long run.. If I seen them both on the shelf, I would probably go for the 60 series, it just looks a little more rugged that the CX. But again as far as performance, it's a toss up. Have Fun.. Dr. P
  8. I have a terminal case of cabin fever! The only way to keep it in remission... well you know the rest! The other thing that gets me out of the house is the Harley. VROOM! VROOM! Dr. P
  9. A couple of broken McToys, what else? Yes, and she does the dishes and cooks! Next thing you will be telling us that you're a happy camper because you have a wife & a TV that works. What a deal! Now if you could get Wyoming to repeal that nasty old 'women can vote' thing.
  10. Walmart- craft section. Several sizes.
  11. you're right i should. that doesn't mean the cacher owner won't delete my log again. but i'm not going to pay the three bucks, at least i'm not planning on it. i'd rather keep trying it the other way. but honestly the whole log deletion thing kinda turns me off from geocaching a bit. I have just started posting some PMOC's. For my reasons, I feel that for those that choose to pay the $3/month, TPTB have given the opportunity/benenfit to post caches that are for others that have chosen to pay their $3/month. After about 10 or so finds per cache, I plan on dropping the PMO classification. But just like in all of society, there are those who are willing to pay their way and smile all the while they are doing it. But then there are those who think they are in someway are entitled to all the bennie's without paying. And when they can't have them, well you know the rest of the story. Kind of reminds me an old high school friend who tried to sneak in the back door of the theatre, got caught, then was PO'd at the theatre manager for catching him... Again, you know the rest of the story!!! Dr. P P.S. And again, if you get turned off by all that happened... you can always dust off that old stamp collection you had in 5th grade.
  12. Thanx to you Sneaky_Pete. I am sure in your interest to just get us all jump started, further our activity in geocaching, and to get us out of our cabins(my desire for sure), you issued the challenge. But as it seems to be a prevailing mood lately, people seem to take the innocence of a suggestion and turn it into a great debate. But like you said, if you don't want to do it, don't! Thanx again, Dr. P P.S. -- did 5 this last week.
  13. Two of my favorites! First one is our grandson, Jude. Affectionately called 'Jude the Dude'. He even has a cache named after him. This pic was taken during his first exposure to geocaching. Loved it so much he cried when he had to leave (takes after his grandpa). The second pic is one of Mrs. P, aka 'Blossom' (she owns a flower shop). It was a chilly 6deg. F that day. About a mile walk to the cache and plenty of snow on the ground. As you can see she takes a great picture. Dr. P
  14. The 28' Bayliner I had would burn more than the $30 premium membership in about 45 minutes. Not counting all the food my wife brought when her fat cousin showed up.
  15. I put some of the blame on Garmin. They put this little blurb in the directions (yes, I do read them occasionally) about being geocache friendly. Went on a search and find mission about the subject and 6 months later over 30 units have been purchased (all brands) to family and friends. Now it all we talk about. Love it all..
  16. In our area we have a few entry fee required caches. No on seems to mind and most generally they enjoy other things besides the cache in the parks and facilities. As far as Utah blowing their horn to come out and see their parks. I say go for it.. While their listings seems a little awkward from the normal(?) type of listings we see on GC.com, I am not offended when I looked at all their listings for caches for their parks and I think it's a good idea.. I wish someone in Nebraska had the foresight to do the same..
  17. Still cheaper than buying a boat!
  18. 95 on the F250 CacheMobile (not going to a cache). That's when the governor kicked in. 137 on my Harley (FXDWG, also not going to a cache). That's when I ran out of nerve. Dr. P "Life's journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well-preserved body, but to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting.... 'Holy Smoke.... What a Ride!'"
  19. I have an AximX3 and love it.. I use GPS Sonar. Download your GPX files direct from Windows to your Axim. Open file(s) w/GPS Sonar. What is displayed look just like what you see on GC.com, even with the most current logs(5). Hints can be highlighted. Sorting is good too. I think it's the best so far.. Dr. P
  20. Love all aspects of caching.. 1) Good for the ego (I have so little) when I have a find.. SUCCESS!! 2) Brings me back to reality.. DNF a. sometimes I feel really stupid when I go back to chase a DNF and do find it. 3) Gets me outdoors. Try to pick some real challenging caches for the exercise.. (open heart surgery) 4) Something I can enjoy with my wife. (She loves it!) 5) Something that I can enjoy despite the weather, good or bad! 6) Meet a lot of different people, and different in a good way I might say. 7) Doesn't break the bank. Which is most unusual for most hobbies. 8) Didn't know I could get so excited about opening a cache to find nothing, and still leave with a smile on my face. 9) Even the so-called 'lame' caches still provide excitement. 10) and the list goes on Dr. P
  21. There is a cache here at the local zoo which requires an admission fee. The cache owner has permission to place the cache and also requested if you show your GPS at the gate they will let you go in and find the cache with no fee. Which to me is a very good deal all around. But the zoo is so nice it was not hard to bust the guy the fee and spend some time in the zoo after rounding up the cache...nice cache and had a good time, that's what it's all about.. Dr. P
  22. I guess it amazes me that there are those who have no problem paying their own way and in really a small way ($0.08/day) supporting something they obviously enjoy. But then there are others that some how believe that they are entitled to all the whistles and bells for free, and are upset when they can't have them! WHAAAA! WHAAA! If the money is really that big of an issue, then maybe they should seek out the garage sale forum and look up their stamp collection from 5th grade. Dr. P
  23. Started w/Etrex Legend. Talk about durable. Been passed around to kids, in-laws, out-laws, etc. Has lots of finds. Been great.. Currently Vista CX & 60C. No preference. Both reliable and accurate..
  24. uh ok. if you say so. I agree with tenacityj, and frankly, I wonder why you want something other than a guideline. Just take a look at the schools that have suffered under the tyranny of "Zero Tolerance" policies that cause perfectly nice students to suffer competely unfair disciplnary actions for innocent infractions. Guidelines are flexible. Flexibility is a very good thing--it allows common sense to be applied. You might be stumbling onto something that might have been said earlier about maybe there is another agenda besides just looking for clarification.. Just consider this hypothetical circumstance that the OP made of request to archive that particular LEO's cache. And to give him credit where credit is due... he was just following the guidelines as he has interpreted them. But when that SBA hasn't taken place the disgruntled OP decides to take this disappointment to a higher forum, i.e. highways/bridges' discussion.. and with that continued angst the OP still is disappointed that the world doesn't see it his way.. Just hypothetical you know!!! Dr. P
