  2. I like to leave new Cat 5 computer patch cables. I don't think they would be popular everywhere, but people seem to like them here in Silicon Valley. Other people have mentioned their trademark items in this thread
  3. probably our Camelbak and Leki Trekking poles.

  5. even if you are caching during the day!! I parked 0.5 miles away from a cache only to find out it was at 2500 feet elevation. It was noon and I thought I could hike up and back down before sunset. Needless to say, I will always bring a flashlight with me from now on....
  6. Given the 20' - 40' GPS accuracy range, how would you ever find the cache if it was burried?
  7. What firmware version are you using? Did you try downloading and installing the latest from Garmin.com?
  8. Surely this has been discussed, but I couldn't find the thread..... I know there is a 100K limit per picture, but is there a limit to how may pictures one can post? Is it better to link to my own Web space or use Groundspeak's upload capability? (The latter is more convenient IMO) Do these Groundspeak pictures have an expiration date to be deleted or are they overwritten after a limit is reached?
  9. I couldn't bring myself to keep printed records..... It sounds like Worldtraveler's EasyGPS file idea may be the easiest for me. At least that way, the majority of the fields will be filled out.
  10. quote:Originally posted by Mr. Snazz:I track on my geocaching page, http://geo.mrsnazz.com. Nice Page....what software did you use to create the pushpin map of your found caches?
  11. I recently bought the eTrex Vista w/ the $50 mail-in rebate. Just curious about the turnaround time. Has anybody received their $50 yet?
  12. I have to put in a vote for the AMMO boxes. The Tupperware caches aren't animal proof and don't weather as well.
  13. How do most of you keep track of all the caches you find? Is it safe just to have it automatically stored with your profile or do any of you track this offline?
  14. Another newbie here....haven't had a chance to take my Vista caching yet either. If you lose sat. reception, do you lose the breadcrumb trail? I was playing w/ the Vista on the NJ Transit this week, and that seemed to be the case. Is there anyway to keep the track in memory?
  15. I got an eTrex Vista last week - still haven't had time to take it geocaching yet. Doh! Anyway, I downloaded some caches into the Vista w/ EasyGPS and couldn't figure out a way to attach any additional info. Is there a way to attach the name (without changing the alphanumeric waypoint ID) and attach the encrypted hint??? Perhaps I'm asking for too much? How do others handle this - printouts/PDA's? Brad
  16. One more question...how big of an area would each map cover?
  17. Just got my Vista yesterday! It shipped with 2.28 and I am ugrading it to 2.40 now. I'm thinking of getting some additional maps - topo and metroguide. Can I have both maps loaded onto the Vista at the same time? So, if I'm hiking I could use the topo map and the metroguide for when I'm in the city.
  18. quote:Remember: when leaving Fry's, you _do not_ have to show your receipt to the Door Nazis. Just politely say "no, thanks" when they reach for it. They generally just say "have a nice day" to me... Really?! They always seem like they won't let you walk out w/out showing it to them. Do you always do this? What about at Home Depot? They have Door Nazis too.
  19. I'm still waiting for my Vista to arrive in the mail. Is the base map sufficient for geocaching or is it necessary to buy one of the add-on (topo?) maps?
