  2. one of those disposable warmers wrapped in a small towel and put on top of the cache container? Seriously, they do generate a lot of heat, the packet I have states 107 degrees F. for 6 hrs. if you leave it exposed to air it can get up to 165 degrees F. 3. Since the newer P4 probably uses USB rather than serial data, it might be possible that the serial port baud rate may not be set to maximum. Mine is running 19,200 bps which is the maximum my MAP330 can handle. If you still have problems, box up the P4 and send it to me and I'll test it for a while I forgot, I'm running ME on a Dell 667mHz with Mapsend Topo. Go to www.altavista.com and use their babelfish translator program. The you will see how wars get started. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  5. If you traverse the same route on a routinely basis. as you pass the river, jump to the Satelite tracking screen and see what type of reception you are getting, then do the same thing on the return trip. If the 2 readings are the same, I would guess the problem is in the mapping software tracking. I have read there can be an averaging delay of several seconds for the map to catch up with the receiver someplace, and I will try to find it. 6. Mine does it also....especially when I'm at a really low scale setting (100ft). I have to keep in mind that the road lanes here are 10 ft wide, therefore if I'm on a 4 lane wide road its 40ft from outside edge to outside edge. the map doesn't take this into account when its drawn. add in the additional 30ft tracking error and there you go. 7. quote:Originally posted by sledgehampster:" Firmware 2.10 and Basemap 1.10 are the latest versions that Magellan has shipped in the MAP 330. I tried substituting the 1.10 map from the Navicache site, but the upload program wouldn't accept it. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.

  9. Most hand held units don't run on 12 volts and have to have a voltage divider circuit built into the cable to bring it down to their level. try plugging in just the cable without the GPS and see if the fuse still blows. 10. quote:Originally posted by NWMOoutdoorsman:I'm sure glad I posted this up. It looks like Heartland America has the best deal. If you just want the unit then the other places are good, but I'm wanting all that other stuff they throw in for free so I'd sure like to go with that. I'll wait for the extra $50 from Magellan. Thanks a million guys! Your welcome, I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  11. Don't bully anyone with too much constructive criticism. (Know when to shut up) Keep a level head and don't get flustered by bad words from non-constructive people. Good luck...we're behind you I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  12. www.heartlandAmerica.com They are offering a free "extra stuff" package to go along with the Meridian they are selling. software, car mount, and cable I think. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  13. click on the box directly under it for auto logging into the forums, you only have to login once. At least that is all I do to get here. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  14. the GPSr is not an "exact" science. there is some error that can creep in that will throw off a reading (yours/theirs). I've had errors up to 50 ft. from the coordinates shown on my Unit. (Magellan MAP330) You will read logs that say they walked straight to it, and logs that will say 150 ft off. Think of the error as part of the fun. 15. You can get at least one resounding "BULLY" in there somewhere. For heavens sake it is "Teddy Roosevelt" I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  16. where you can actually get a pdf file and make your own cards. I apologize for not being able to make a link to it from here, but keep digging through the link above and there should be another link that will take you to the pdf file. The cards are really nice when finished. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  17. you should use a geocache patch or shirt or sit near a wall with coordinates posted on it. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  18. if my batteries went dead in the field, I can replace them. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  19. from the sounds of it. It is a lot more enjoyable to go with a partner. you can chat about things while you hike in and out from the cache. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  20. they got their hands on some re-furbished units, ran out, and were waiting for more? I bought my Magellan MAP330 for $149.00 from a discount catalog (re-furbished) while they were still selling for the $249 new price. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  21. when I find out a cache has been hidden in a park where I've been before I knew about geocaching. I get some good pictures along the way to the cache, you can see them at www.geosnapper.com I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  22. I remember reading a paragraph on the "Geocaching Home" page about sending them the links so they can collect the stories. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  23. there should be no need for me to have additional software to get what I want when the pages are already available with the click of a link. I'm not a software engineer, but I would think there could be some kind of button added to access the non-log page links for me to get what I want. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  24. My example is of an individual who is placing up to 12 caches at a time under one series. Instead of having to do a query by date of placement (week, month, year) I want to enter a name (Electric Shavers) and get only the caches that he has placed. and I would like to do it without adding additional editing programs to my computer. I know I can edit the larger list with Easygps for my GPS, but I would like to get a smaller MobiPocket ebook with just his stuff (without editing). I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
  25. how about a feature that would allow a search by the name of the person placing multiple caches at a time in a region. An example is GCBE59 which is number 12 in a series by the same person. that way I can be lazy and not have to scroll through the "Table of Contents" every time to find each one. I'm not Lost, my GPS says I'm right here....no over here......no over here.
